Chapter 599: Chapter 599: UV lights
He pushed it into her hands with a sincere face.
“I was planning to throw it away since she has another lover now, but when you asked for proof, I knew this was fate. Please believe me.”
Ou Lin hadn’t thrown away the scarf purely because he wanted to do some inexplicable things with it.
Whenever he could feel pressure building up in his lower body, he used the scarf to meet his needs.
Hence, he had kept this. But now it has proven to be very useful.
Lianhua froze for a second, staring at the handkerchief. Something about it made her suspicious, but she forced herself to smile faintly.
She took it from his hand slowly. “So you… kept this all this time?”
“Yes,” Ou Lin said quickly, nodding. His eyes shined like he was near tears. “Every single day I thought of her. I never forgot her.”
Lianhua forced herself to look touched. She let her eyes soften and spoke in a tender voice. “Ou Lin… I feel guilty now. I doubted you. I thought you were lying. But maybe I was wrong.”
Ou Lin’s heart swelled with hope. “So you believe me?”
“Yes,” she said slowly, holding the handkerchief against her chest. “And… if you want me to accept you, then prove it in front of everyone. Propose to me in a grand way. Make it clear you love me, not anyone else. If you can do that, I will say yes.”
Ou Lin’s face broke into a huge smile. He laughed, almost crying. “Of course! I will do it! I’ll make it grand, so everyone will know. Just wait and see, Lianhua!”
He turned and ran off happily, already thinking of how to prepare.
As soon as he left, Lianhua’s smile dropped. Her face twisted in disgust. She looked at the handkerchief with narrowed eyes. “This thing… so dirty.”
Still, she carried it to the conference room where Su Jiyai was meeting with a few trusted people. She walked inside, holding it away from her body like it was poisonous.
“Boss Su,” she said, laying it down on the table. “He gave me this. He said it was proof of his loyalty to you, proof that he always remembered you. He wanted me to believe him with this.”
Su Jiyai looked at the handkerchief, her lips curling in disdain. “Proof? Hmph. Filth.”
Lianhua crossed her arms. “Should I throw it away?”
But Su Jiyai shook her head. “No. Leave it here.”
She raised her hand, and a small flame appeared in her palm. With a calm motion, she let the fire fall onto the scarf.
The cloth caught immediately, curling into ash as the smell of burnt fabric filled the room.
Su Jiyai’s eyes were cold as she said softly, “Now it is nothing. Just like him.”
Then she looked at Lianhua. “The next step begins after he makes his grand preparations. Do not stop him. Let him dig his own grave.”
Lianhua smirked. “Understood.”
The next day, the whole base buzzed with whispers. People said Ou Lin had rented an entire floor in the south building. He decorated it with red banners and paper lanterns.
He even bought expensive flowers and spread them along the hall. Some people laughed at his foolishness, while others were curious.
Ou Lin wore his cleanest clothes and spent almost all his savings to make everything look bright and grand. His hands trembled as he adjusted the last decoration.
“This will be perfect,” he whispered to himself. “She will say yes.”
He sent invitations to everyone in the base, telling them to come and witness his love. People came in groups, murmuring about what they would see.
The whole floor was glowing with light, filled with chairs, tables, and food.
Finally, Ou Lin stood in the center, holding a small velvet box in his hand. His eyes kept searching the crowd, waiting for Lianhua.
When she appeared at last, wearing a pale pink dress and walking slowly, the whole room turned to watch. She looked calm and elegant, her face soft like water. Ou Lin’s heart pounded so hard he thought it would break out of his chest.
“Lianhua!” he called, his voice shaking with emotion. “I’m so happy you came!”
She smiled gently and walked closer, every step making him more excited. The crowd leaned forward, waiting.
Ou Lin dropped to one knee in front of everyone. He opened the small box, showing a silver ring. His voice trembled, but it was loud enough for all to hear.
“Lianhua! I love you! I promise to protect you, to never hurt you, to give you everything I have. Please, marry me!”
The room grew silent. Everyone waited for her answer.
Lianhua looked down at Ou Lin kneeling with the ring. Her lips curved in a soft chuckle. She tilted her head and said slowly, “If that is the case, then I will have to… reluctantly say yes.”
The crowd gasped. Everyone looked at each other with wide eyes. A few people even clapped already, thinking it was a romantic moment.
Ou Lin’s heart almost exploded with joy. His eyes watered as he almost shouted, “Really? You accept me?!”
But before he could celebrate, Lianhua raised her hand slightly. Her voice was calm, but clear enough for everyone to hear. “Yes, but before I give my full answer, I need to show everyone just how much you have been dedicated to me.”
Ou Lin blinked, confused for a second, then remembered something.
She had been recording him these past weeks.
Every time he carried heavy boxes, cleaned the courtyard, or stood in the sun with sweat dripping, she had pointed her little recording tool at him.
He thought she was doing it because she wanted proof of his effort.
At the time, he secretly hoped those videos would also reach Su Jiyai. If her sister knew how hardworking he was, maybe she would see him as reliable.
Now Lianhua saying she wanted to show the videos made his chest swell with pride.
‘Yes… this must be it. She wants to show everyone I am worthy. Once people know she is Su Jiyai’s sister, they will envy me.’
He kept his face calm but inside he was smug.
Lianhua turned her head and nodded to someone. A man came forward carrying a small projector. People in the crowd leaned forward curiously.
“What’s going on?” someone whispered.
“Maybe she wants to show a love video?” another guessed.
Lianhua clapped her hands lightly. “Please, everyone, take a look. Then you will understand.”
The lights dimmed slightly. The projector flickered and began to play. Ou Lin straightened his back proudly. But when the image appeared, his face instantly froze.
It was not him sweating and working. It was him standing beside Su Yun, staring at a person off-camera. Then a soft feminine voice came from the speaker:
“Do you know that Brother Ou never liked you? The reason he comforted you time and time again is because my sister asked him to. Brother Ou always liked Sister Yoon. She only wanted to see you mocked when you confessed.”
The voice paused, then laughed coldly. “But now that we know you will die anyway, we cannot wait anymore.”
Then, clear as day, Ou Lin’s own voice came out. “They’re telling the truth.”
The video ended with his disdainful expression on his face.
The room went dead silent.
Ou Lin’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. His eyes were wide like he had seen a ghost.
“W… what?!” He staggered to his feet, shaking his head hard. “No, no, this is a lie! It’s fake! Someone framed me!”
But the crowd had already turned their eyes toward him. Their faces were not admiring anymore. They were blank, suspicious, some even angry.
A man in the back muttered, “That voice was definitely his…”
Another woman whispered, “So all this time he was pretending?”
Ou Lin’s body trembled. He looked desperately at Lianhua.
“Lianhua! Please, you have to believe me! This is a misunderstanding. You know me, right? I would never…”
But Lianhua’s eyes were cold as ice. She raised her chin slightly and spoke in a clear, disgusted voice.
“Yesterday, you gave me a handkerchief, saying it was proof of your loyalty. I tested it last night under UV light. Do you know what I found?”
Everyone leaned closer. Some frowned, not understanding what she was saying.
Lianhua sneered. “It contained strange particles. Some of them were identical to sperm. That means this cloth you gave me… was not proof of love. It was proof of how filthy you are.”
The crowd erupted instantly.
“What?!”
“Is she saying… he used it for that?!”
“Oh my god, disgusting!”
People started covering their mouths, glaring at Ou Lin like he was dirt.
Ou Lin’s face turned pale like chalk. He waved his hands desperately. “No, no, it’s not like that! She’s lying! She’s twisting everything! Please, listen to me!”
But Lianhua’s voice cut through the noise. “Do you all know? He had a wife before. This dirty cloth was with him even during his marriage. Think about what that means.”
