Apocalypse: Last Traveler
Chapter 33: Gou’s New Component
CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: GOU’S NEW COMPONENT
Yao Wei stared intently at Gou, eager to see what other wonders this mechanical dog possessed.
Meanwhile, Lu Xi’an’s gaze had already shifted to the drone.
The slot on top of the mechanical dog’s head certainly came as a surprise to Lu Xi’an.
But this dog had surprised Lu Xi’an more than once or twice already, like when it powered the villa before.
So now, Lu Xi’an was no longer fazed by the unexpected.
The slot on the mechanical dog’s head seemed capable of automatically matching chip models, with very high compatibility.
And now, Gou had installed the remote control’s chip into its own head. Lu Xi’an didn’t even need to think to understand what the dog could do to the drone.
"Show us what you’ve got."
He issued a command to the mechanical dog.
But the mechanical dog didn’t immediately execute the command; instead, it lifted its wheeled legs, bumped into the drone, and then nudged Lu Xi’an.
Only then did Lu Xi’an realize that he had turned off the drone when he returned earlier to save some power.
The drone hadn’t been switched on yet, and he had asked Gou to try controlling it, which was indeed making it difficult for the dog.
He picked up the drone, switched it on, and put it back down. The light in Gou’s eyes flashed, finally able to execute Lu Xi’an’s command.
"Buzz—"
The drone’s four propellers spun rapidly, lifting the machine swiftly into the air, hovering in mid-air.
Success!
Lu Xi’an was overjoyed; Gou’s new function was amazing!
With this, the drone became a part of Gou, solving the problem of Gou being unable to fly up and scout the environment.
By controlling the drone through Gou, letting the drone fly up to scout the environment also freed him from having to constantly watch the screen on the remote control.
In case of danger, Gou could hide in the shadows, ensuring that even if the drone was discovered and attacked, at most they would only lose a component, without harming Gou’s main body.
This was truly great!
Now, to Lu Xi’an, Gou was not just a tool but his lifeline for survival in this harsh environment, his only companion as he walked alone.
—Even though most of the time, he still treated Gou as a tool.
Anyway, no matter what, with Gou’s assistance, safety was better ensured, which was certainly good.
And as the safety assurance increased, the function also evolved.
"Go under the table and come back."
"Circle the pillar, make a twist, then return."
"Touch the ceiling lightly."
"Verify if there’s any danger in the innermost kitchen."
Lu Xi’an tried issuing several commands to Gou.
The drone flew under the table at one moment, circled the load-bearing pillar in the lounge in an S pattern the next, and flew wherever directed, making it extremely handy.
Finally, it flew into the kitchen and back, hovering in front of Gou, causing Lu Xi’an to smile in satisfaction as he watched Gou complete all these tasks with the drone.
"Better than both of us operating it."
Lu Xi’an turned to Yao Wei and said.
"Yes."
Yao Wei nodded, thinking Gou was indeed impressive.
She had previously tried using the remote to fly the drone, but it never flew well; yet Gou managed it perfectly, much better than she did.
"Alright, go power up."
Lu Xi’an issued a new command to Gou, and Gou sped off to the control room to connect the circuits.
The corridor lights lit up again.
Lu Xi’an returned to the dormitory to find the socket, then opened the plug slot switch on the drone and took out the plug to insert into the socket.
He had observed beforehand that there was a battery slot at the bottom of the drone near the plug slot; by opening it, the plug could be removed without any external connections.
This way, it saved the trouble of looking for additional accessories.
The red indicator light at the battery slot lit up, showing that the drone was charging.
This item in someone else’s hands would only be a consumable used a few times, but now in Lu Xi’an’s hands, it was entirely different.
With the mechanical dog in hand, he could recharge the drone anytime.
And the chip from the remote has been removed and inserted into Gou’s head, so the functionality became replaced by Gou.
This way, Lu Xi’an didn’t need to worry about the remote using up its battery.
Luo Ping had previously given Lu Xi’an four additional batteries, but now they weren’t needed.
However, they could be stored for now, just in case they’d be useful in the future.
If worse comes to worst, using them as Hidden Weapons in critical moments could be an option.
Lu Xi’an also removed and stored the battery from the drone remote, then took the casing connected to the screen and sighed.
"It’s a shame that Gou can be compatible with chips, but it seems it can’t also be compatible with this screen."
He said this aloud, but still dismantled the casing of the remote, retaining the small rectangular screen with the connected wires.
This was also a resource and could be used as a Hidden Weapon.
And in the future, if possible, it could be connected to Gou, allowing them to see the view when Gou flies the drone.
The thing wasn’t heavy or took up space, so it was stored for now.
"No need to look; Gou can detect danger."
Yao Wei said.
She had understood the role of Gou being linked to the drone and spoke with that understanding.
Lu Xi’an couldn’t help but glance at Yao Wei. This woman really treated "Gou" as Gou’s real name.
Yet it seemed he’d never given Gou an official name himself, always calling it "Gou," which indeed was Gou’s name now.
Which was quite nice.
Today, Gou was officially named "Gou."
"Let’s go, we’ll move all the water to the bathroom and then take two buckets to the kitchen to cook."
He said, heading out of the bedroom and carrying two buckets of water, leaving them in the bathroom.
Yao Wei was immediately reminded of Lu Xi’an’s half-finished words, but Lu Xi’an showed no intention of explaining, so she didn’t ask, following Lu Xi’an to carry the buckets to the bathroom, finally taking the remaining two buckets to the kitchen.
The kitchen lights were fine and could be turned on.
And with Gou connecting the power, the cold storage regained its refrigeration function, though not as good as before but still usable.
However, Lu Xi’an turned off the refrigeration function because everything inside was vacuum-packed, and they wouldn’t stay there for long, so there was no need to refrigerate those items.
With the fluctuating temperatures, Lu Xi’an felt it was not ideal.
They had already eaten meat in the morning, so for this meal, Lu Xi’an didn’t consume the sausages; he only opened a bag of dehydrated vegetables, boiled them with water, sprinkled in some oil, added soy sauce and salt, then cooked rice to eat with.
The cooked rice had a naturally sweet aroma, and the seasoned vegetable soup was also delicious. This meal was truly enjoyable for Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei with both food and drink.
This meal used up half a bucket of water, and after finishing the meal, Lu Xi’an lavishly used the remaining half a bucket to clean all the pots and bowls before carrying the empty bucket to the bathroom.
Yao Wei couldn’t cook, so she helped wash the dishes, and later followed Lu Xi’an over.
She thought Lu Xi’an would finally carry out the planned task now, right?
If he wasn’t going to do it, she’d have to make him do it.
