CHAPTER 35: CHAPTER 35: YOU TOO

[The previous Chapter’s ending had a somewhat unnatural and irrational reaction from the protagonist. A slight modification has been made. Interested readers can go back for a little glance, but it’s okay to continue reading without doing so. Thank you for your support.]

No matter what, Lu Xi’an slept very comfortably this time.

Since coming to this post-apocalyptic world, it was the first time he slept so peacefully and comfortably.

The soft quilt was gently warmed by his body temperature and reciprocated warmth to his body, making him unconsciously fall into a deep sleep without even dreaming.

The powerless shelter was utterly dark, with no sunlight coming in, blurring the distinction between day and night.

Upon waking up, he first listened carefully to the sounds from the bed opposite, confirmed the breathing had changed, implying Yao Wei also woke up, then asked Gou, "Gou, is it daylight?"

Actually, he wasn’t sure if the mechanical dog could give him an answer to this question.

Before, he always relied on his eyes to observe whether it was daylight, never asking nor needing to ask Gou this question.

But now, he had to ask Gou.

Who made him lose his watch?

Fortunately, Gou soon responded. Originally parked beside the bed turned into a box, the mechanical dog quickly reverted to its original form, and its eyes emitted light.

According to the rules Lu Xi’an had set long ago, Gou’s eyes should emit light, a steady light means "Yes," a brief flicker means "No," a frequent blink means "Unable to determine," meaning "I can’t do it."

Now the light in Gou’s eyes was steady, lighting up the whole dormitory, confirming for Lu Xi’an that it was indeed daylight outside the shelter.

Good, another function of Gou discovered.

Yao Wei also opened her eyes, the light from Gou’s eyes reflected in her eyes, illuminating them brightly, looking rather unique.

She lay sideways on the bed, watching Gou with her eyes.

Noticing Lu Xi’an’s gaze, she turned to look at him but didn’t speak.

Her expression revealed no oddity, as if she forgot what happened last night and the book she read.

"How do you feel?"

Lu Xi’an asked.

"Hmm."

Yao Wei nodded in satisfaction, indicating she felt good.

For her, it was an entirely different feeling, something never experienced before.

Lu Xi’an suddenly thought of a question and asked, "Did I snore?"

Yao Wei shook her head and surprisingly also asked, "Did I?"

Lu Xi’an chuckled, "Definitely not. You don’t seem like the snoring type."

Yao Wei responded, "Neither do you."

Lu Xi’an felt boosted, "You’re too kind."

Yao Wei: "You too."

Lu Xi’an couldn’t tell if Yao Wei understood "You’re too kind" as a compliment, but he was in a good mood.

Not just because of Yao Wei’s words, but because of the comfort and ease of the environment.

"Shall we continue sleeping?"

Lu Xi’an suggested, "Since there’s nothing much to do in the shelter temporarily."

"Sure."

Yao Wei nodded again, agreeing that Lu Xi’an’s suggestion was a good one.

So Lu Xi’an commanded the mechanical dog, "Gou, turn off the lights, rest."

The mechanical dog promptly received the command, the light in its eyes dimmed, and a soft sound arose in the darkness, indicating Gou returned to box form.

Back to sleep.

He slept deeply as if in a haze, and upon waking, he suddenly noticed there was no sound of breathing beside him.

Even the slightest sound, none at all.

He was startled and immediately called, "Gou!"

The mechanical dog hurriedly reverted from a box form, its eyes lighting up. Lu Xi’an followed the light to Yao Wei’s bed, seeing the quilt turned back, empty.

On the other bed above, Yao Wei’s other clothes were missing, only leaving a red leather jacket.

Turns out she went out...

Lu Xi’an breathed a sigh of relief.

As long as she went out, not lying there without a breath.

Lu Xi’an dressed himself, got up, and left the dormitory, hearing the fierce wind sounds coming from nearby.

The sound was sharp and heavy, like something swiftly pounding the air.

He followed the light emitted by Gou’s eyes to see in the resting area, the table was moved to the edge at some point, leaving a large empty space in the middle.

Yao Wei stood in that open area, punching forward or kicking repeatedly.

She was exercising.

Lu Xi’an became intrigued, let Gou turn the power on in the shelter, and watched.

Yao Wei noticed Lu Xi’an’s gaze but did not stop, continued punching and kicking.

Those punches and kicks were fierce, breaking the wind swiftly, making it hard to see the motion, showing only afterimages.

Lu Xi’an was amazed, certain he couldn’t do that but was somewhat disappointed watching.

"What’s wrong?"

Yao Wei finally stopped, seemingly capturing the emotion revealed in Lu Xi’an’s eyes, showing some concern.

Lu Xi’an smiled, "I thought you were practicing something like the Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms or Desolate Soul Palm, at least Xingyi Tongbei Tai Chi Yong Chun..."

What he saw was Yao Wei simply punching and kicking, with no need for technique but rather strength and speed.

In essence, Yao Wei relied on the Neo-Humans’ natural ability, brute force creating miracles.

Apparently, there might not be martial arts existing in this world.

Yao Wei furrowed her brows, not quite understanding.

Lu Xi’an smiled again, "It’s nothing, just some nonsensical stuff heard in stories before."

"It’s best these things don’t exist, and we needn’t mind them."

Thinking if martial arts did exist that could surpass the strength of Neo-Humans, and neither he nor Yao Wei had such abilities, it would not be good.

"Oh."

Yao Wei responded without pursuing the topic.

She continued her practice, punch, punch, punch, kick, kick, kick...

Lu Xi’an watched for a while, joining in, throwing his fists and legs with full strength like Yao Wei, attempting to break through.

It was time to exert effort.

This place was no longer the North he came from, encountering more and more people.

Moreover, most of those people weren’t kind.

He couldn’t keep being a couch potato, traveling and searching for supplies.

Strengthening his body to reduce injury and withstand, ensuring better facing this world and safety.

"How did you learn to shoot?"

He asked casually while punching.

"Shooting people, picking up bullets."

Yao Wei didn’t mind talking to Lu Xi’an, with their physical strength sufficient to breathe steadily whilst punching with full force, without losing breath.

Lu Xi’an fell silent upon hearing this.

It turned out Yao Wei became proficient with guns by using live targets for practice...

Moreover, not simply practicing with live targets, Yao Wei needed luck, successfully grabbing enough bullets for another round each time.

Where could he learn this?

Though his luck was decent, having shot quite a few but the gun skills did not improve.
