Apocalypse: Last Traveler
Chapter 41: Logistics
CHAPTER 41: CHAPTER 41: LOGISTICS
Luo Ping’s back was desolate yet resolute. Compared to him, the broken steel jungle ahead was so massive that even the white flag rustling in the wind could accommodate countless of him.
Lu Xi’an watched Luo Ping walk farther away and asked, "Do you think what he said is true?"
Yao Wei, also watching Luo Ping depart, heard Lu Xi’an’s question and replied, "I don’t know." Her voice seemed calm and unruffled.
But Lu Xi’an could still tell that beneath the calm facade, there was a hint of being touched.
In such a world, having such people is really rare. Even if they’re not on the same path, they can still move one’s heart.
"Why don’t we help him a little?"
Lu Xi’an suggested.
Yao Wei turned to Lu Xi’an and asked, "How do we help?"
Lu Xi’an said, "He can revive, we can’t survive; it’s hard to join him in risking our lives. How about finding a place and providing logistics for him?"
Yao Wei responded, "Alright."
Lu Xi’an smiled and honked the horn twice.
Luo Ping in front heard the sound, turned back.
Lu Xi’an waved at him, after a moment of hesitation, he returned, complaining, "What’s up, brothers and sisters? The momentum I painstakingly built up was deflated by you just like that."
Lu Xi’an asked, "This time when you go in, can you finish the job and come out alive?"
Luo Ping grinned and said, "How would I know?" and then patted the pocket of his coat, causing the instant noodle bags inside to crinkle, "I still have some rations, right? With two extra lives, I should be a bit more secure."
Lu Xi’an reminded, "Be careful not to crush them."
Luo Ping replied, "It’s okay, once the fight begins, they’ll get crushed eventually; as long as it’s all in the bag, I can eat them."
Lu Xi’an proposed, "I’ll leave the drone you gave me here; if you exhaust your rations and still can’t finish, run here, and I’ll control the drone to bring you over to me for more food."
Luo Ping’s eyes brightened, "Boss, actually you don’t have to go through so much trouble. If you have any dry rations left, just give me some more directly."
Lu Xi’an said, "Eager to die, you! We don’t have dry rations left. I’ll cook for you, isn’t that better than dry rations?
"But let me be clear beforehand, when you come here, you’d better shake off the county people; otherwise, my drone won’t take off."
He actually still had dry rations left; the instant noodles were gone, but he still had some expired bread.
Such convenient food naturally needs to be stored and used at critical moments.
He and Yao Wei had surplus white rice and dehydrated vegetables. It was not far from the shelter; if consumed, they could return and resupply.
Moreover, there was water and trees nearby, so wood was not scarce.
So Lu Xi’an was willing to come up with white rice and dehydrated vegetables, but unwilling to give away more dry rations.
Luo Ping was a bit anxious, "What if I’m too severely injured and can’t make it to the spot?"
Lu Xi’an asked, "How about here?"
Luo Ping agreed, "It’s fine here. I’m a Type B Neo-Human; even hanging on by a thread I can walk for a while. Dragging the body to this place should be no problem."
Lu Xi’an said, "Then try to drag the body here. If the situation is fine, I’ll bring you food."
"Alright, no problem! No problem guaranteed!"
Luo Ping nodded repeatedly and added, "Rest assured, brothers and sisters; you’re helping me like this, I definitely won’t cause you trouble. When I come out, I’ll bring some good stuff for you."
Lu Xi’an laughed and said, "Alright."
Then Luo Ping waved goodbye and once more turned, striding towards Fengcheng County.
Lu Xi’an drove to a slightly hidden spot, close to the water source, with trees nearby. He let Gou scout around before getting out of the car.
"Take the drone back to where we just parked, hide there, and when you see Luo Ping approaching, confirm the danger isn’t too great, and let the drone take off to guide him here."
Lu Xi’an instructed Gou, and Gou operated the drone as commanded.
Meanwhile, Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei divided their tasks clearly; Lu Xi’an started a fire to cook, while Yao Wei held a gun to keep watch.
Lu Xi’an didn’t have Gou confirm that Luo Ping wasn’t bringing anyone along.
That’s what he told Luo Ping, but if the enemies trailing him weren’t many and Yao Wei could handle them when they followed, he didn’t mind.
And regardless of whether someone followed Luo Ping or not, Yao Wei being on guard always enhanced security.
Chopping wood, starting a fire, adding rice, fetching water, cooking.
Lu Xi’an attentively carried out the steps, not paying too much attention, cooking the white rice and dehydrated vegetables together.
He didn’t use the newly brought white rice; the previous large bag hadn’t been eaten up these past few days, leaving a little squeezed in the car, perfect to use now.
Gunshots faintly echoed from afar; it seemed a battle had begun.
Initially, the gunfire was sporadic, then after some time it stopped, later on, it started again, then stopped again.
Then again after a while, it rattled on.
Lu Xi’an wondered if the guy had gnawed through the remaining two bags of instant noodles.
They really have a lot of bullets, so enviable.
The rice and vegetables were already cooked. Lu Xi’an made a little more, asked Yao Wei over, and they both ate a bit first—there was plenty remaining.
The gunfire ceased again, and for a long time, there was no response. Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei were uncertain if Luo Ping hadn’t dragged the body over, preparing to observe a bit longer.
After a while passed, the sound of the drone came, and a blood-drenched person staggered over—no one else but Luo Ping!
The guy seemed like he dragged himself over, even sporting a hole in his head as if it had been shot.
No one was trailing him, so Yao Wei didn’t need to fire.
"It’s okay, the bullet’s been extracted. A little food will revive me completely."
Luo Ping grinned, his jagged teeth stained red by blood.
Seems like the battle was pretty intense.
"Then quickly eat."
Lu Xi’an hurriedly tried to call Luo Ping over to eat.
But Luo Ping was particular, pulling out something and saying, "I’m soaked in blood, better not dirty your pot; you can just serve the food to me here."
Lu Xi’an looked closely and saw what Luo Ping held was a folded instant noodle bag.
He took it, filled it with cooked rice and dehydrated vegetables, and Luo Ping took it back, scooping with his hands, eating heartily.
A bag of rice, demolished in no time.
"Comfortable! I really didn’t expect you guys had such good stuff. If I don’t bring you back some good stuff, it’d really be unfair."
Luo Ping declared as he plopped down onto the ground and closed his eyes.
A moment later, he indeed revived completely.
He then pulled out two empty bags, left over from before, saying, "Can you fill all three bags for me? I’ll go deal with them again! I’ll definitely bring back good stuff for you this time!"
