Apocalypse: Last Traveler
Chapter 42: The Living Yama
CHAPTER 42: CHAPTER 42: THE LIVING YAMA
This time when Luo Ping went again, there were only sporadic gunshots from the direction of Fengcheng County, intermittent, seeming as if the fierce battle was no longer as intense.
But Lu Xi’an speculated it had nothing to do with the intensity of the battle; it was probably because the bullets were nearly used up.
He couldn’t help but lament, "In the future, never provoke Type B Neo-Humans, they’re like a leech, too clingy!"
Yao Wei nodded in deep agreement.
Although she didn’t understand what "leech" meant, she deeply felt the same, thinking that having an enemy like Sharp Brother was truly troublesome.
Not only can’t you kill them, but they keep clinging to you, consuming your ammo—it’s disgusting.
"Gotta guard against them."
She suddenly had an idea, "Chop off the head, arms, and legs, even remove the jaw. Make sure they’re completely dead, then you won’t fear them reviving to eat."
Lu Xi’an couldn’t help but glance at Yao Wei.
This woman was truly like a living Yama.
"It’s best to throw the head into the river to feed the fish. Throw the other parts separately, and you can also smash them completely with a hammer."
Lu Xi’an supplemented a couple of sentences.
The two exchanged a smile, feeling slightly pleased to have found a way to crack the problem.
They moved to another spot, continuing to let Gou pilot the drone to stand guard outside the county town.
No more gunshots sounded in the direction of the county seat. After a long time, there was the sound of a car.
Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei stood on higher ground, looking towards the sound, to find Luo Ping had actually retrieved his car and was driving it over.
Gou and the drone were on top of the car, neither walking nor flying, hitching a ride.
After confirming there was no risk, Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei stood up.
Luo Ping spotted them from a distance, drove over, stopped below, and laughed loudly, "Job done! Thanks for the food.
"I found two good spoils, giving them to you."
He said as he got out of the car, opened the back door, and took out two metal barrels.
These barrels were different from the round ones on Yao Wei’s car; they were rectangular, sealed at the top, with handles, spouts, not like something used for fetching water.
Yao Wei was momentarily puzzled, not understanding what use these had. But Lu Xi’an’s eyes lit up, "Oil barrels?!"
Luo Ping smiled with pride, "Yes, oil barrels. What do you think, good stuff? With these, you can store some gasoline in the car, greatly easing mileage anxiety."
"Indeed, good stuff."
Lu Xi’an nodded, saying.
Yao Wei’s car actually also had a metal jug for holding gasoline.
When he met Yao Wei before, she was carrying that jug.
But that jug was too small, and without a cap on top, if stored full of oil in the car, it easily spilled, causing danger.
Thus, Yao Wei always used that jug as a backup tool.
If the car ran out of fuel somewhere with special conditions and couldn’t run, she’d hide the car and take the jug to find fuel.
But with these two oil barrels, it was different!
The capacity of these oil barrels was sufficient, and most importantly, the top was sealed, and even the spout had a small cap, so when filled with oil, there was no worry about spills.
Safe enough, and enough to store more oil, an essential travel helper!
Luo Ping said, "It’s all thanks to your food! Where did you find this good stuff?
"I revived with your rice, and felt even more energetic than before! Compared to white rice, what I used to eat was simply pig feed!
"I just relied on your rice and tangled with those people twice more, completely breaking them down. The car was specifically driven out for me; they didn’t dare keep it.
"Look, I still have a bag of rice left."
He said, patting the pocket of his coat, making the bag inside go "pop pop," though it was muffled, likely because it was filled with rice.
After saying these things, he tossed a metal oil barrel to Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei, saying, "Here’s one for you, no problem, right?
"I need one too."
Yao Wei reached out to catch it.
Lu Xi’an said, "One is enough."
The car had limited space; any more and they wouldn’t have space to put it.
Luo Ping sighed and said, "Alas, it’s a pity, my precious books all got ripped and divided by those people. Otherwise, I could have given them to you too.
"A bunch of bastards, what a waste of good things! It only makes sense to read them whole, what’s the point of dividing them?
"Some even tore a page in half to share!"
Lu Xi’an laughed, "Didn’t you give me a comic book before? That comic book is enough."
Yao Wei recalled the content of the comic, pursed her lips, and couldn’t help but glance at Lu Xi’an.
After staying at the shelter for some time, replenishing enough water daily, her lips were no longer as chapped as before, looking rosy and clean, rather captivating.
Luo Ping saw Yao Wei’s expression inadvertently, and laughed, "Yes, yes, one book is enough."
After saying this, he turned serious and talked about serious matters, "Brothers and sister, you’re rare people in this world. My base needs people like you.
"Come with me, let’s live a good life together, how about it?"
Lu Xi’an turned his head to look at Yao Wei, who looked back at him, her expression seemed somewhat flustered.
Actually, Lu Xi’an was somewhat tempted by Luo Ping’s invitation.
He didn’t know what Luo Ping’s base was like, but it had enough resources for him to go in and out finding people, indicating it should be a well-resourced place.
And judging by what Luo Ping said, he had likely found some like-minded people, working together to focus on this new world, trying to make humans survive long-term here.
Hadn’t he traveled from north to south just to find such a place?
Yao Wei said there were green oases in this world. Luo Ping said that having searched for such oases for a long time without finding them, one should create a green oasis on their own. Lu Xi’an thought it made sense.
Humans from the old times had gone from primitive tribes to modern societies, building skyscrapers, planting crops, raising livestock, turning the whole world into a human oasis.
Why couldn’t humans of the new world do the same?
Just...
Judging by Yao Wei’s expression, she seemed resistant and unwilling to interact with more people...
Never mind, I’ve only met Luo Ping once or twice, and he seems to have many scheming ideas, unlike the familiar, straightforward Yao Wei. Who knows if what he says is true or false?
I better be cautious.
"Let’s not."
Lu Xi’an said, "We are already used to just the two of us and don’t know how to interact with more people. Let’s part ways here.
"But roughly where is your base? You can tell me. If we meet like-minded people, we can introduce them to you and let them find you."
Yao Wei suddenly turned her head to look at Lu Xi’an, her eyes slightly bewildered.
Lu Xi’an noticed Yao Wei’s gaze, smiled back, and Yao Wei quickly turned her head back, withdrawing her gaze too.
