CHAPTER 56: CHAPTER 56: GOOD PEOPLE AND BAD PEOPLE

So the fruit is really poisoned. I’m not sure if there’s an inherent problem that the people at the gas station are unaware of, or if they intentionally spiked it.

Lu Xi’an asked Yao Wei, "What would you do if you encountered a situation like this before?"

Yao Wei shook her head and said, "Never encountered it. But we can just leave."

In these uncertain times, people aren’t eager to give things away so easily.

Yao Wei didn’t have Gou, and she didn’t possess the ability to test the water quality herself. Even if someone gave her something, she wouldn’t accept it casually.

Lu Xi’an thought for a moment and said, "Let’s ask them. We can leave if it’s not appropriate."

He felt an urge to confirm whether the people inside were good or not.

He felt infected by Luo Ping.

Or perhaps he wanted to complete the Reconstruction Faction’s broadcast assignment?

"Alright."

Yao Wei didn’t refuse.

"Gou, come back."

Lu Xi’an called his mechanical dog back, and then said, "Someone inside, come out and take a sip of the water."

There was a silence from within the station house.

After a short while, someone said, "The two of you, this water was given to you. We’ve already handed it out, how could we take it back and drink it again? You drink it, you drink."

The speaker wasn’t the older man from before, but a child.

There was a surprising maturity to the child’s tone.

Lu Xi’an furrowed his brow, suddenly recalling the child who had just appeared and fallen to the ground.

He stared intently at the station house entrance and said, "It’s fine, since you’ve given the water to me, can’t I decide what to do with it? I’m offering it to you, why are you embarrassed?"

Another silence.

After a moment, the child’s voice rose again, suddenly angry: "We’ve already given the water to you, why do you keep insisting we drink it? Do you want it or not? If not, leave quickly!"

The child seemed almost hysterical.

It confirmed that the people inside knew the water was poisoned.

The assignment from the Reconstruction Faction’s broadcast couldn’t be completed after all.

Lu Xi’an sighed, deciding not to entangle himself with the gas station folks, intending to drive away.

However, just at that moment, he suddenly realized something, his eyes flicked, and he saw a sudden flash of light shoot out from the station house window.

An arrow!

And it was aflame!

The station house’s window glass had long been broken, letting the wind through. Therefore, Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei hadn’t paid attention there before.

Now, when someone inside shot an arrow, they weren’t by the window but somewhat further inside the room.

The arrow was wrapped in cloth, the cloth ablaze, shooting through the air and directly targeting the car.

Its direction aimed at the car’s gas tank.

They dared to attempt lighting the car with that single fiery arrow!

Lu Xi’an didn’t know if the flaming arrow would be effective, but he wasn’t willing to take the risk. He shouted, "Yao Wei!" and opened the door, jumping out of the car.

"Bang!"

Yao Wei fired a shot, aiming at the arrow soaring through the air.

The bullet instantly collided with the arrow, sparking a dazzling flash.

The arrow immediately lost its forward momentum, falling to the ground.

Lu Xi’an was slightly astonished, looking back to see Yao Wei only then tumble out of the car window, jumping out.

"Impressive!"

He praised her while looking back at the station house entrance.

The station house door suddenly swung open, and a figure lunged out.

Lu Xi’an instinctively fired, "Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!" Four successive shots, the first hit the person, but the other three flew off who knows where.

"Ahhh!!!!"

The bullet didn’t kill, only hitting the man’s thigh, causing him to fall to the ground, rolling in pain, and screaming incessantly.

"Bang!"

Yao Wei finished him off with a shot, directly killing him.

This is the difference!

Lu Xi’an thought with admiration.

Shooting practice isn’t easy. The gun, though excellently structured and seemingly easy to use, requires feeding it bullets to thoroughly master.

Lu Xi’an didn’t know how Yao Wei practiced such precise marksmanship. He had scavenged many bullets from the Mozhou City’s police station and shot quite a few people, yet he still wasn’t effective.

--- Of course, it also had to do with him never specifically practicing.

He only used bullets when necessary, lacking time to ponder over details. After each use, reflecting on it brought little gain.

In the future, he would have to specifically ask Yao Wei for shooting tips.

Lu Xi’an thought to himself, as he saw Yao Wei charging to the station house entrance, kicking the door open, and quickly retreating.

Seeing no movement inside, she then entered.

"Bang! Bang!"

Two more gunshots rang out.

Lu Xi’an went back to remove the car keys, rolled up the windows, locked the doors, and then followed.

Inside the station house, he saw two people down; one already dead, the other had a bullet in his chest, struggling with a ragged breath.

The man lifted his hand, pointing inside, and said, "Th-there! There’s a back door!"

There was a small door leading to an office inside.

If what the man said was true, the back door must be in the office.

Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei indeed heard footsteps and breathing from the direction the man pointed, estimating that they had already left the station house, likely escaping through the back door.

They didn’t chase immediately but cautiously checked the station house first.

The injured man on the ground seemed quite anxious, shouting, "They poisoned the water for you, trying to steal your car. When that failed, they wanted to blow you up!

"That kid is our leader, he’s been directing all this! Don’t be fooled by his size, he’s the most cunning, and he would even risk his life!

"He deliberately pretended to rush out earlier to test you. Seeing that you didn’t instantly kill him, he then gave you the poisoned water.

"He’s no good, there are others in the city, he’ll bring them to deal with you. You better kill him fast!"

He spoke through gritted teeth, evidently hating those who escaped, to the point where his heart wound tore further, blood spurting everywhere, choking on his words, turning pale, and finally dying.

Lu Xi’an watching him realized what was going on—

Gou had said there were six people in this place, but Yao Wei only shot three dead. The remaining must have fled.

The ones who escaped likely pushed these three out to face the gunfire and used the time to escape.

That’s why the one left behind as a shield was so resentful.

"Indeed, there are few good people in this world!"

Lu Xi’an lamented.

No wonder Yao Wei trusts no one; she treasures encountering Lu Xi’an and Gou.

Good people are truly scarce, and being good can be more dangerous than being bad. If he and Yao Wei had mercilessly attacked that kid earlier, they might have avoided the current crisis.

Considering his luck in meeting Yao Wei and Luo Ping, they’re genuinely rare good people.

Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei pursued through the small door to the office, finding the back door open, the wind blowing in from outside.

The two continued chasing outside, the back door led to a straight corridor leading to a distant road.

Under the shifting light, Lu Xi’an saw two burly men running far ahead—one wielding a bow, the other carrying a large blade, and on another’s shoulder was a child. Wasn’t this the same kid who had sprinted out from the station house?
