CHAPTER 298: CHAPTER 298: NEW COMMUNICATION DEVICE

"How are you feeling?" Chu Hao asked because he also knew about My Nan getting treated by their mother.

"I am doing better now. I just need to take care of my health for a while and I will be completely fine." Mu Nan replied.

He had not expected them to care about his situation since it was human nature for those in power to overlook those beneath them.

However, he also remembered how Mother Chu had treated him without any sign of disgust or disdain which would have been present for anyone else who thought that they had the ability to literally pull someone from the gates of hell.

"How’s the communication device coming along?" Ye Xuan, who had been quite beside Chu Miao finally spoke.

"I have a prototype. To be more precise,I have two and I wanted to test them before making more.

Even though we found quite a good number of materials that can make the devices, we don’t want to waste them." Yang Leo said, feeling that he had at least made a contribution to the team.

"Give me one of the devices and keep the other one for the testing. We’ll move a distance away from here and you can test how clear the messages are passed depending on the distance." Ye Xuan said again and Yang Leo couldn’t be more happy to comply.

He had completed the prototypes a couple days ago and had been waiting for this moment. Now that they could finally test the efficiency and ability of the device, he was happy.

"Okay, I’ll go to our apartment and get it for you." Yang Leo said before running to the stairs to go home.

He had created a small workshop in his room where he had been on different things that could work in the apocalypse without a mobile network.

Even though he had made a few things, the first successful one was the communication device.

He brought back two devices shaped like mobile phones but much smaller. They could fit in the palm of the hand and in case they were given to people planted in other areas and bases as spies, they would also be easier to hide.

He gave one to Ye Xuan and showed him how to use it. Unlike the regular mobile phones that have numerous apps, this one only had the function of calling and sending messages.

"It’s a simple version of mobile phones but can only send messages and calls. I will try to improve its functionality later. But for now, this is what we can use." Yang Leo explained to Ye Xuan and the others.

Chu Miao seeing this device had an inspiration and remembered the communication talismans used in ancient times.

A person could communicate with another in a different continent using them. There were also other sophisticated communication objects such as a communication jade.

The jade lasted longer than the talisman but was also more precious.

She was thinking that maybe later on she could draw a few of those talismans or teach others to do it.

"Is it ready for use?" Chu Miao asked as she took the device from Ye Xuan to examine it.

"It is. That’s why I wanted to test it." Yang Leo replied to her question.

He felt that even though the device wasn’t the best,it could work well and avoid detection.

"We’ll test its efficiency depending on distance, even across cities or provinces. Just record the results and produce the rest based on the best results." Chu Miao added.

"Okay." Yang Leo agreed readily.

Ye Xuan and Chu Miao then left and went to see the soldiers still within the building. Some of the soldiers had gone out with the boats and the rest were bustling around doing one thing or the other.

Some of the awakened were in their rooms meditating and absorbing crystal cores while others were training in a makeshift gym in one of the rooms.

Even though everything looked chaotic, the atmosphere was filled with positive energy. It looked like everyone was happy about the ending of the rainfall.

After making sure that the team members were working hard to improve their situation, the two went back to Chu Miao’s apartment.

Chu Hao didn’t want to be a light bulb and had stayed behind with Yang Leo to help with the boats and talk about the future development.

"You know that once the flood water dries up, the government and military will resume the construction of safe bases within the country." Chu Hao said.

"What are your plans?" He added.

"What does the leader plan to do? We’ll follow her lead." Yang Leo replied this way because he was almost sure that the Chu family already had a plan.

They were the few people he was sure that if he followed them, he could at least protect his family and make sure that they do not lack anything in life.

He was also aware that he would be expected to contribute to the team as it developed but he didn’t have objections about that.

"We don’t plan on leaving this place. We’ll try to turn it into our safe haven and make it habitable for all our team members and their families if they choose to stay." Chu Hao explained.

He felt that giving people a heads up was the best thing to do. This way, those who want to stay can stay and those who didn’t felt free to leave at any time.

"Do you think this place is suitable for something like a safe base? There are children now and there will probably be more in the future." Mu Nan, who had been sitting quietly at the side, raised his concern.

"Don’t worry about that. Since we said it is suitable, then it is suitable. I hope many people will stay, but I know that most of them trust government facilities more than those owned privately.

But if you still want to be a part of the team, that’s fine too. You don’t need to do anything." Chu Hao emphasised to Yang Leo.

Even though the sect had yet to be set up, it was good to let those interested know about it early.

Thus, Chu Hao didn’t lower his voice when he said this and some of the people within the building and others who had come to rent boats heard his statement.

While some people who had heard of the Chu family made the decision to stay on the spot, others felt that the government could guarantee a better life for them. Therefore, they didn’t even need to consider anything.

"Alright then. My family and I will stay. I hope I can contribute more to the survival of humanity in the future." Yang Leo added to which Chu Hao just nodded.

Mu Nan at the side did not say anything but he had also made up his mind already.

He was going to stay as well and join the private base that the Chu family would build.

Just as they were still discussing this, the loud voice of a helicopter was heard from a distance. Without even looking, Chu Hao could determine that it was a military plane.

A voice transmitted through a loud speaker followed.

"Hello citizens. The government is happy that the rain is gone and you have all worked hard to survive.

Once the flood water dries up, the construction of safe bases will continue. For those who wish to get a job at the construction site in exchange for supplies, you are welcome to go at that time.

The payment will include two boxes of food and water per week. Once the construction is complete, those who participated in the construction will also be given priority when distributing houses.

All are welcome."

The message was repeated three times before the helicopter left. All of a sudden, there was a lively atmosphere outside the building as more people started discussing the benefits of following the government and how their safety was guaranteed.

However, those who know the operations of the government understood that this was a tactic to gain cheap labor. But at that moment, saying anything would only attract hatred.

Inside the Chu family apartment, the people inside also heard the announcement.

"So, they finally acted. I just hope they won’t use people for cheap labor and abandon them when the time comes." Grandpa Chu said with a sigh.

"They never make a loss. So, they most likely have some restrictions to impose once it is time to allocate the houses. But that’s not our problem for now. Unless they cross the line completely, we don’t need to interfere with their operations." Father Chu said as a reply to his father.

"That’s true. I hope we can finish building our own sect earlier. Those who choose to stay can then feel safer." Mother Chu, as a woman, had a softer heart and felt sorry for those still suffering.
