CHAPTER 356: CHAPTER 356: THE BATTLE BEGINS

The array flickered once more, as Chu Miao swept her hand. The protective lines of light collapsed with a soft ripple, vanishing into the earth.

The night seemed to grow darker instantly, and the pressure pressing down on them became heavier now that the thin shield was gone.

The beast’s eyes gleamed like two lanterns in the dark, and with a guttural roar, it stepped into the clearing.

The firelight from the camp shone on its scales, each one thick and jagged, like slabs of molten iron cooled mid-forge. It opened its mouth wide, the jaw almost snapping, while dripping heat nearly warped the air around them.

The beast appeared in full view of everyone and their jaws almost dropped to the ground from shock.

A fire lizard.

This was the first time most of them had seen such a big lizard. Moreover, it was covered in scales as large as a basin.

Chu Miao and Ye Xuan were the only ones who remained calm. Chu Miao had seen a fire lizard before during a war where she had led the army to fight the army of the neighboring nation who were trying to encroach on their land.

The general of the other army had a contract beast, a fire lizard that had been a little younger than the one in front of them.

Chu Miao’s gaze stayed on the lizard, "It’s a fire lizard. Stay alert and don’t let it spray you with fire. It could be fatal." She advised while watching the lizard like a hawk.

The beast roared an ear-splitting roar, the tail whipping behind it with the force of a falling tree. It struck the ground, causing cracks like spiderweb to form through the clearing. Sparks shot upward, causing the entire clearing to be illuminated.

Ye Xuan’s blade flashed in the firelight, reflecting on the eyes of the approaching beast. His voice was steady, as he gave out instructions without an ounce of fear.

"Everyone, take a position and surround the beast, this is not a physical fight. Infuse spiritual energy into your weapon and fight with all your strength.

Be careful not to be hurt."

Chu Miao was impressed that her boyfriend could still be so calm in the face of a beast he was seeing for the first time.
