CHAPTER 357: CHAPTER 357: THE BATTLE BEGINS (2)

Ye Xuan and Chu Hao who were standing at the front each went for the eyes. Chu Hao was using this battle to practice the sword technique he had inherited from his ancestor before.

However, the lizard wasn’t that easy to fool. It was as if it had known that Chu Miao attacking first was a decoy.

Before the claw that had slapped Chu Miao away could touch the ground, the other front claw had already swept from one side to the other, also sending the two men backwards.

A loud roar followed as if the lizard was frustrated. The others had also taken action, slashing, shooting arrows, and hammering.

However, none of them left even a slash on the scales of the beast. Qi Long tightened his hand on the spear, injected a large amount of spiritual energy into it, and jumped towards the head of the lizard.

Using all his strength, he drove the spear into the lizard’s neck leaving the first mark on it. A shallow slash on its scale.

Another roar escaped the lizard, this time not out of intimidation or frustration, but out of pain.

Seeing that it could really be hurt, the others became more ecstatic and attacked in a frenzy.

Chu Miao came back to join the battle together with her brother and Ye Xuan.

Because of the pain from the slash, the lizard’s eyes glowed brighter with malice, and it opened its mouth and exhaled.

A wave of flame erupted, rolling toward the group like a living tide. Chu Miao reacted instantly, opening a portal in front of them while Ye Xuan created a barrier around them just in case things didn’t go as planned.

Luckily, all the flames went through the space portal and landed on the bonfire behind them. Even with the barrier covering them, they could feel the heat.

Sweat poured down their bodies, but they held on and as the barrier was withdrawn, they launched another wave of attack.

The lizard got even more frustrated seeing its attack fail and turned around, sweeping everyone with its massive tail.

The scales were scotching hot and ragged and they left different degrees of injuries on the team. Jing Xian, who had been close to the tip of the tail, bore the brunt of the attack and was thrown towards a tree, crashing into it and staying still.

"Brother Xian!" The others called frantically.

"Concentrate on the battle, don’t get distracted. He will be fine." Chu Miao hurriedly instructed when she saw the others almost abandon their spots to rush to their comrade.

When they heard her reassurance, they breathed a sigh of relief then anger took over them for their hurt friend and channeled it turning it to strength and ruthlessness.

They attacked more frantically while Chu Miao and Ye Xuan continued to focus their attacks on the eyes.

Chu Hao used his newly acquired sword techniques to cut at the neck. He had realized that the scales there seem softer than other parts and could get hurt easily.

As he continued to attack, sword intent started to form and slashes began to appear on the beast’s scales.

Chu Miao and Ye Xuan had also suffered some minor injuries including a few burns as the lizard relentlessly sprayed fire on them.

But they had managed to injure it a few times around its eyes. The lizard was clever and always closed its eyes as the attack landed.

However, such damage made it uncomfortable as Ye Xuan saw an opportunity and injected darkness energy into the lizard through the wounds.

Suddenly, it started to feel as if its life force was being drawn out of its massive body.

This slowed down the beast. Suddenly, Ye Xuan saw an opportunity and leaped through the fading flames sprayed by the beast, darkness aura condensed tightly around his sword.

He landed squarely on the beast’s back and in a burst of spiritual force, stabbed downward.

His blade pierced a scale at the shoulder joint, sinking in half a foot. The fire lizard shrieked, twisting violently in an attempt to throw him off, but he held on and refused to let go. Twisting the sword and piercing the beast deeper.

Ye Xuan ripped his sword free and jumped clear just before the beast rolled over to crash him.

However, this gave Chu Miao an opportunity to make her move. The underbelly was another weak spot of the fire lizard. Now that it was exposed, even for a moment, it was enough for her to act.

She cooperated well with Ye Xuan. As he leapt away, she jumped forward, aiming her sword at the belly of the beast as it faced the sky.

With light energy wrapped around her sword, she slashed down and blood sprayed upwards as the beast hurriedly turned to land on its feet.

The lizard roared, lifting its foot and stomping down.

Chu Miao landed beside it and rolled away, just before she was crashed under its claws, dirt and blood spraying across her face.

The lizard whipped its tail again and some of the members who had taken advantage of the momentum to attack it were swept away again.

Some landed on the ground with some cracked ribs, others sustained abrasions and cuts, and others were knocked out cold.

"Everyone, pull back." Chu Miao ordered.

This was their first battle, and she didn’t want them to be crippled.

They had already gained enough experience and stabilized their cultivation.

With the heavenly pressure slowing them down so much, they were no match for the lizard that had grown up here.

Gu Fan gritted his teeth as he retreated. "If this is its strength while it’s so young, what kind of monster will it become when it matures?" He asked tentatively.

Ye Xuan’s answer was to move again. He dashed forward and stayed low, ducking under a flaming swipe, before leaping up again and drove his sword once more into the wound he had left at the shoulder of the lizard.

As he pulled his sword out and leapt out of the range of the beast’s attack range, Chu Miao came from the other side, and drove her own sword into the same wound.

The darkness energy Ye Xuan had left inside had considerably weakened the beast and the repeated stabs felt like torture.

The two strikes overlapped, the beast screeching as blood spurted.

The fire lizard thrashed violently, flames bursting outward in a desperate struggle to survive.

Everyone hit the ground, covering themselves with a barrier of spiritual energy to protect themselves from the searing heat.

Chu Miao gritted her teeth, pouring every ounce of qi into suppressing the beast’s raging aura.

Seeing that it couldn’t beat the group of humans, the fire lizard let out one last roar before turning around and disappearing into the darkness of the night.

Everyone heaved a sigh of relief when they saw it leave and collapsed to the ground in exhaustion.
