Chapter 121: Please, Be Real People...
CHAPTER 121: CHAPTER 121: PLEASE, BE REAL PEOPLE...
"Zee, are you inside?"
It was her dad’s voice.
Her senses spread throughout the house. Laziel was already on his bed, hugging his watermelon. He had fallen deeply asleep.
Meanwhile, there were no sounds from Nyra’s room too, so most likely she should be asleep already. It was safe, right?
So, she let out a small yip, only enough for her dad to hear. There was silence on the other side. She tilted her head a little, waiting.
Not long after, the door was opened. Her dad went inside. His eyes widened in shock when he saw her.
"Zee, what is this...?" He pointed to her tails.
Now, she has two tails. She subconsciously licked her paw. A nine-tailed fox having more than one tail was normal, but her dad, a complete mortal, didn’t know this.
She pointed at herself, letting out soft yipping sounds, telling him it was okay. Actually, it was good news for her.
If she could be a full nine-tailed fox, then finding a way to break out of this world shouldn’t be difficult.
She stared at her dad’s countenance, who seemed to be more energetic and younger after he had awakened his ability. Probably, she would miss them too if she could leave...
"You mean that you are alright?" Alaric asked a little anxiously.
Zerra nodded, and Alaric heaved a sigh of relief. Fortunately, she was fine. She pointed at the potted plant she had just grown, hoping that her dad would catch what she was trying to convey.
Most likely, it was because she had awakened her wood ability, so she grew another tail.
Her dad looked confused. He scratched his head, kept looking back and forth between the potted plant and her. Facing her sparkling eyes, he didn’t want to disappoint her. So, he tried hard to figure out her intentions.
"Potted plant err... wood ability?"
Zerra nodded, then pointed at her extra tail. It was soft and fluffy. Even she loved hugging it–or them now.
"So, you got an extra tail because you awakened your ability?" Alaric finally figured it out. A realization dawned on him.
He recalled Zerra’s identity. A zombie fox. Some animals undergo a mutation, and Zerra’s case seemed to be similar. After he had gotten the confirmation he needed, his heart was much more relieved.
It was now Zerra’s turn to be confused. Why had he come to find her? She tilted her head, waiting for him to speak.
Alaric cleared his throat. He almost forgot why he had come. As soon as he had scolded Zerra earlier, he felt bad. He didn’t want her to misunderstand his intentions, so he had come to explain.
"It’s nothing important. I just came to make sure that you didn’t misunderstand Dad’s intention." He took a deep breath. His hand was brushing Zerra’s soft fur.
"You just recovered from a fever and recently awakened your ability too. I don’t want you to overdo it." Zerra had helped them stockpile a lot of supplies in the space rings.
He didn’t want her to think that it was her responsibility to provide for them or other people. She should use her power within the limits where she wouldn’t harm herself. What she had done was more than enough.
For him, her well-being was above other people’s necessities.
He had scolded her because she should have been resting instead of playing with the seeds Laziel had found. When it came to Laziel, he was also a little helpless.
These two kids were so mischievous. If they weren’t fighting against each other, they would team up together to destroy the world...
Zerra turned to her dad. Suddenly, the urge to bring him out of this collapsing world filled with zombies emerged in her heart. She wanted to bring others too.
How can they bear to live in such a world for the rest of their lives? Fighting and surviving every day?
"Oh!" Alaric exclaimed softly when he felt the little white figure come barrelling toward him, hugging his boots. He picked her up, and she hugged his wrist.
It was just that she didn’t know whether they were real people or not. If they weren’t... she couldn’t imagine the heartbreak from losing them.
Now, she had somehow gotten attached to them, sigh.
She let out soft yipping sounds, which translated to: Dad, Mom, Cassias, elder brother, and others, please be real people...
Even the male lead was a tolerable person once the plot collapsed. So, she would include him. Even so, she had begun to doubt his real identity.
Alaric didn’t understand what she was saying. He just guessed she had taken note of his words. After offering her some more pieces of advice, he left the room.
"Sleep well, Zee."
With that, he closed the door.
Zerra sat alone in her bed, a little dazed. She could still feel the warmth left by her dad on the edge of the bed.
She shook her head and crawled onto the pillow, burrowing herself under a blanket.
When the morning came, she fell silent upon noticing her reflection in the mirror. Why hadn’t she turned back into a human yet? Oh my, she must have overdrawn her energy again. She thought in sorrow.
She scanned the room. It wasn’t so early in the morning. Most likely already around nine a.m.
Then, her senses moved to other rooms.
Nyra and Laziel must have gone already. She heard footsteps and spotted Laziel. He was walking toward the door, heading outside.
She heard him talking to their dad.
"Zerra is still sleeping?" His tone was a little guilty. "Then, I will go with Eldest Sister. I might won’t return for a few days. They want us to go get supplies at a faraway warehouse."
Alaric fell silent before he reminded him, "Be careful outside."
Laziel nodded earnestly. "I will be careful, Dad. Take care too."
On the way out, he mumbled about some seeds. His eyes sparkled. Yesterday, he had promised to bring her new seeds to play with too. She didn’t expect that he would still remember.
After he was gone, Zerra came running outside. Her dad gave her a bowl filled with crystal cores as snacks. She instantly dug in.
Laziel had said that he would return in a few days. However, Zerra found out that he was a liar.
"Eh, Foxy, you are here?"
He came back at noon. "Where is Cassias, huh?"
