CHAPTER 132: CHAPTER 132: THE NEXT PLAN

Zerra’s eyes twitched. After the man spoke, all eyes were instantly on her. She took a deep breath.

"Is it because of Miss Zerra?"

When she accidentally met Nyra’s eyes, the latter had a scrutinizing gaze. Her heart thumped a little. She needed to answer their questions now!

"It’s not because of me..." she started. "I also don’t know what is happening. They suddenly attacked the wolf after I threw an explosive at it."

Her reasoning sounded like nonsense, so she couldn’t help but use her spiritual energy a little. "The wolf caught the explosive in its mouth before it spat it out, so it might have attracted the little mutated animals and made them misunderstand."

She had to use a little psychological effect, a hint of hypnotism, in her words.

Besides studying illusions, she also had begun to learn about hypnotism. Unexpectedly, it was easier compared to using illusion, guiding people using her words like a psychologist giving their patient psychological cues.

Of course, she was also a total beginner in this. She could only pray that her method worked. For illusions, she still needed to use the mutated mushrooms.

Zerra reflected on herself. Hypnotism and illusion might be equally powerful–it just depended on the situation, and unlike her previous belief.

Her hypnotism should have something to do with her zombie control power too. That was why she was better at it compared to illusions, the area that she needed to study more.

"Ah, so that’s the reason." The man nodded, as if a realization had just dawned on him. He didn’t ask anything further.

Worried that the effect would wear off too quickly because they were ability users, she added, "Let’s get the crystal cores."

Laziel still had a confused look on his face. Her heart jolted, and she hurriedly grabbed his arms.

"Elder brother, don’t just stand there, go get the crystal cores," she urged him. Meanwhile, Nyra was also looking at her with a vague look in her eyes.

Zerra didn’t dare to look at her, pretending to be busy with collecting crystal cores.

After they were done, they were still extremely vigilant, anticipating another round of mutated animals coming for them. However, none of it happened.

They went back to Mr. Wells’ house, who had a dazed look on his face. He seemed to be extremely excited, his breathing a little heavy.

"Thank you! Thank you for saving us!" He gave them a bow in gratitude, but Nyra caught him in time.

Darren and others discussed the countermeasures in Mr. Wells’ living room.

"Our last move might have deterred them from coming back this time," He said, analyzing the situation.

"Or it might be because we didn’t let any of them go. We killed any mutated animals coming toward this place," Nyra offered another perspective.

He gave her a thin smile and nodded. "That’s a good observation, Ira."

Meira, who stood at the corner of the room beside Laziel, clenched her fists. Until she heard Laziel’s question, "Do you feel cold?"

She stiffened, almost forgetting that her boyfriend was there. When she looked at him, she had adjusted her expression into a sweet smile. "I am not cold, thank you for caring about me, Azi..."

Zerra twitched her temples. They made up too soon. With just a few words of coaxing from Meira, Laziel was defeated.

"Judging from how there are more mutated animals who come to this place even if we already killed some... most of them might not be the same ones who had come beforehand." Arnold, surprisingly, added his opinion too.

Everyone pondered over the information they had received.

Zerra raised her hand. They all turned to her, and she coughed before opening her mouth, not expecting she would get so much attention.

"Please speak, Zerra," Darren invited her to speak.

"What if we just stay here and wait for them to come?" She began. "If we go directly toward the forest, we might encounter something we can’t handle."

"Earlier, we were lucky because only a few showed up. But since they hold a grudge against us, more might come for us. They must have marked our scent too."

"You are suggesting we wait for them to come here?" Darren contemplated it.

She nodded. "Best if we ask for help from the base too, and evacuate the people first..."

It sounded like the best solution at the moment. They had encountered two rounds of attacks they almost couldn’t handle. If more wolves or even tigers came, they might be dead.

Mr. Wells was also in the room to provide information about the forest and the area. After Zerra proposed her idea, they turned to him for his opinion.

"It’s actually the same, just as I had thought before. I will tell them after this." He finally decided, knowing that time was the essence.

"A few of us should send news to the base at the quickest time possible." Darren moved on to the next topic. "Who is going to take the role? Make sure it’s someone who can drive fast and has decent power."

He turned to all the people who had come with him, waiting for any volunteers. None of them spoke.

However, a few minutes later, Laziel raised his hand.

Meira was startled, and she subconsciously grabbed Laziel’s hand in shock. He was the reason they endured her presence although she had zero fighting power.

If he went back to the base, what would happen to her? She lifted her head, flinching when she met Arnold’s gaze. He sent her a malicious grin, causing her to clutch Laziel’s hand tighter.

"I will go." Laziel opened his mouth. He turned to Arnold and one man who once said he wanted to ask Meira out. "How about Arnold and this gentleman? Are you willing to go with me?"

Arnold raised his eyebrows in amusement while the other man snorted, unimpressed. He patted the man’s back and told him, "Let’s go, brother. Deliver the news with this Laziel boy."

"We will do it, Mr. Valez." Arnold told Darren, standing up.

The sky almost turned dark, but they still intended to deliver the news as soon as possible to the base.

After retrieving the car key, they went out together. Of course, not before Laziel assured Meira to calm down. He even asked Zerra to take care of his girlfriend, making the girl almost couldn’t help rolling her eyes.

She wasn’t interested in babysitting such a person; she groaned inwardly. Before she could refuse, however, Laziel had gone.

"Let’s inform others."

Mr. Wells will have them accompany him for safety purposes. They went out, heading to the farthest house.

"Higgs, open the door." Mr. Wells knocked on the door.

They frowned when there was no response after a few minutes passed.

"When was the last time you met him, Mr. Wells?" Zerra asked him.

Mr. Wells fell silent for a moment before answering, "Two weeks ago."

"Just open the door forcefully then." He decided after he thought about it. Worry was etched on his face.

Darren and others instantly forced the door open. As the wooden door slammed open, they didn’t expect the sight that greeted them.

Even Mr. Wells’ countenance turned incredibly pale.
