Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 226: Surprising Finding
CHAPTER 226: CHAPTER 226: SURPRISING FINDING
No matter how she searched, turning her space upside down, she couldn’t find her pitchfork. She was sure that she hadn’t left it behind. Even during the last sinkhole incident, the pitchfork was with her!
Her breathing became a little heavy as she stared at the pitchfork in Cassias’ hand. She wouldn’t pull that thing out of her inner space during her sleep, did she?
She couldn’t remember.
"Kaz... is this pitchfork yours?" She asked carefully.
Little Cassias brought the tall pitchfork, which was taller than himself. He was clutching it with ease.
Upon hearing Zerra’s question, he lifted his eyebrows and nodded. "I have been using this pitchfork for a while."
She scrunched her little face when she heard that. If he said that, it meant he had been using even before she came to his place. They had only met yesterday...
"What’s wrong with this thing?" Cassias raised the pitchfork. When Zerra approached him, he held it out for her to see.
She pursed her lips. The shiny metal tines and the polished wood were very familiar to her. Undoubtedly, it was the pitchfork she had been using.
"Do you want it?" He asked. "It’s my family’s heirloom, but I can give it to you."
Her pupils constricted. Family heirloom? The pitchfork she had been using also originated from Cassias, hadn’t it? He had been giving her his family’s heirloom all this time?
She couldn’t describe her feelings at that moment, especially when she saw that innocent face. A strange sensation, like déjà vu, rose in her heart.
It must have been because the pitchfork was too familiar, right?
"Don’t offer your family heirloom carelessly to anyone like that," she scolded.
"Alright. I won’t." Cassias smiled.
She secretly sighed in her heart. Little Cassias was still too pure and innocent for the world, even if his adult version sometimes was a little perverted.
However, she currently was facing his child version, the innocent kid who might be scammed by outsiders easily! No, this couldn’t do! She had to teach him...
"Don’t tell others that this is a family heirloom. Keep it safe." She began teaching him. "I don’t know if it has special power, but others shouldn’t know about it, alright?"
The more she thought about it, the more restless she became. How could an eight-year-old kid live alone without guardians? On top of that, he possessed his family’s heirloom. She had already guessed it; something might have happened to Cassias’ parents.
"Do you want to help me water the plants, Zizi?" A voice snapped her out of her daze.
She realized she had been staring at a tree like a fool. Pity almost overflowed her heart. Cassias might pretend as if nothing had happened, but the faint sorrow was shrouding his figure.
"Coming!" She jumped, heading in his direction.
With that, the two of them spent the rest of the day taking care of the plantation field. Cassias was surprised he saw her pulling a lot of seeds from her inner space, but he slowly calmed down.
The two began to plant the seeds together.
For the next few days, they spent the time on the field. It was a rather peaceful time for her. She found herself relaxing in this world of Cassias’ memory.
At some point, she was even reluctant it wasn’t a reality. If only she had met Cassias too during her childhood in the celestial realm... but as an ordinary fox, she might not have been able to converse with him so easily.
It was better this way.
Today was the sixth day of farming. They had finished so soon. Cassias had opened a new plantation field, and they had only been cleaning it from the grass.
After lunch, Cassias took her to find mushrooms.
"We have run out of them," he muttered. Zerra had to agree. The mushrooms were delicious. Unfortunately, she didn’t have edible mushrooms in her inner space either.
The only mushrooms available were the type that would induce illusions or hallucinations in others. They also fed on humans’ remains, so it was a huge no.
Since he liked edible mushrooms so much, she would follow him. She trotted behind him with her short legs. After spending so much time in the house and not going anywhere, she now could go out.
However, she had overestimated her short legs. As it turned out, it wasn’t easy to keep up with a human kid with her current form. She was too small, and she could tell that Cassias had deliberately slowed down for her.
Still, she had a hard time keeping up with him. She frowned, staring at his back helplessly.
"I will carry you." Suddenly, she felt herself being lifted up. Startled, she instinctively clung to him. As such, he hugged her as they walked in the forest.
Zerra was a little embarrassed, but there was nothing she could do. She was used to being carried by Cassias, but he was currently a kid right now. She had an adult mind, so it felt a little awkward.
Not long after, they arrived at the place where mushrooms grew. Unfortunately, they seemed to be a little unlucky.
"Little fox!" Familiar loud voices appeared from the dense vegetation.
Zerra, who was busy examining whether the mushrooms in front of her were poisonous, was startled. Her mouth twitched; she instinctively let out a tired sigh.
Here we go. It was them again.
"Did you promise you will play with us? Why are you still with this stinky cub?" The monkey pointed at her accusingly.
"He should have spent enough time with you already. Now it’s our turn."
"That’s right. Stinky cub, let go of our little fox and let her play with us!"
Little Cassias held Zerra tighter in his arms, his forehead marred with a displeased frown. He had no intention of letting her go. Ignoring the cubs’ shouts, he turned around and began to walk away.
The cubs were dissatisfied with his actions. They chased after him.
"You should let go of the little fox this instant, stinky cub." The monkey blocked them, landing in front of Cassias.
It turned to Zerra. "Little fox, don’t you know that your mother is looking for you?"
Eh? Zerra sent the monkey a bewildered look. She also sensed Cassias’ arms became tense.
"Mother?"
