Chapter 229: More Mysteries
CHAPTER 229: CHAPTER 229: MORE MYSTERIES
Zerra was filled with confusion and doubt about the true nature of this world created from Cassias’ memories. Was it some sort of illusion? Otherwise, how could familiar items appear here?
"Take a look at them, little cub." The tiger licked the top of her head fondly, her tone full of indulgence when she spoke to Zerra.
If the tiger in the real world could speak, she had imagined her voice might be like this. A little rough, but still feminine enough, sharp and powerful.
Zerra’s first focus, however, wasn’t on the items on the tiger’s paw, but the tiger herself. She stared at her, agape. Now that she watched the tiger at close range, she was sure the tiger in the real world and this world was the same!
The golden fur, which gleamed under the sun, and the black stripes were as black as ink. The fur looked so warm and soft, just like the countless times when she slept in the tiger’s embrace alongside the tiger cub.
As she raced toward the tiger, unbeknownst to her, Cassias had a look of loss on his face; he clenched his fist.
He wanted to snatch the fox cub from the tiger, but at the same time he was worried the fox wouldn’t like it. Seeing how easily she was heading to the tiger with her short legs as soon as she spotted familiar items, he already knew the tiger was really her mother.
Otherwise, with her tiny body, how could she protect herself in this dangerous forest? The first time they met, the fox already looked like a well-fed cub with her clean and fluffy fur.
"Mother will help you to be the owner of these rings," the tiger spoke again, her tone sounding content. The hint of ferocity from before was gone.
Zerra snapped out of her daze. She sent a conflicted look toward the tiger before her gaze landed on the rings on the tiger’s paw.
It was a pair, and also extremely familiar items. In the real world, one of them should be in Amora’s hand right now.
She was filled with doubts whether what was happening was constructed from what Cassias had experienced in the celestial realm or...
After he woke up, she should ask him about this. Everything was confusing.
"There’s no need," Zerra said awkwardly. Now that she knew the tiger was the same tiger as the one who had also regarded her as her cub, she didn’t know how she should react.
"Don’t you always want to own the space inside?" The tiger coaxed. "Let’s go back. Mother will help you to claim them."
Zerra knitted her eyebrows. Actually, when she touched the rings earlier, she had a foreign scene flashing in her head. It was the scene of a fox cub lying in the grass with blood all over her.
A tiger picked the fox cub and began to take care of it like her own biological cub. Something tugged at her heart.
The tiger turned to Cassias. "Since you have taken care of my fox cub, I won’t hold it against you for your rudeness, little thing."
With that, the tiger picked up Zerra by the scruff of her neck. Zerra didn’t even have the time to react as she was too busy pondering the mystery of this world of memories. The tiger had turned around and was about to jump away.
"Wait!" Cassias yelled.
The tiger stopped, regarding him with annoyance.
He took a few steps forward upon seeing her stop. Even if the tiger was the fox cub’s mother, the spiritual beast who had taken care of her for years, his heart was still a bit unreconciled.
There was still a flicker of hope.
"She hasn’t said whether she is willing to go with you." He said with determination. "Why don’t we ask for her opinion?"
Zerra was stunned. As she was hanging in the tiger’s mouth, she couldn’t but stare at him, her sight switching a few times between Cassias and the tiger to study their expressions.
What to do? She bit her own paw.
As soon as he opened his mouth, the tiger slowly put Zerra back on the grass. "My cub, you want to recover your memories, right? Mother will also do what she has promised you, so do you agree to go with me?"
Cassias stared at Zerra unblinkingly. He lowered his eyes. "Zizi, are you really going to leave me alone?"
"What Zizi? Her name is Zerra." The tiger snorted, and her eyes gazed at Cassias condescendingly.
Zerra’s heart nearly leaped out of her chest when she heard that. The tiger had just called her Zerra? It was her name... how could the owner of this body actually possess the same name as hers?
It shouldn’t have been a mere coincidence. Of all the names in this world, why...?
The scene of the tiger picking up the bloodied fox flashed again in her mind. If she went with the tiger, would she be able to figure out her origin?
She should try to test it again. Turning to the tiger, she asked, "Where do you live? You shouldn’t leave your tiger cubs alone just to fetch me."
A paw knocked her forehead. She fell to the grass due to surprise, rubbing her head. It was the tiger who had given her a harmless knock; she had controlled her strength.
"What tiger cubs? Your mother only has you. If you insist on staying with that cub over there, wouldn’t mother be lonely?" The tiger narrowed her eyes.
Zerra grew more thoughtful. No tiger cubs, eh? So, the tiger hasn’t had a cub during this timeline.
It should make sense considering that Cassias was also still a cub...
If this world constructed from his memories was his past, then it would not be weird if the tiger cub hadn’t been born this time around yet.
Speaking about memories as a cub... Zerra was stunned. She tried to recall her memories as a cub to no avail. What had happened to her memory in the celestial realm? It might have gotten blurry, but she shouldn’t have completely forgotten about it.
She might need to go with the tiger to unlock this mystery.
"What do you think, little cub?" The tiger asked again.
"I..." she stuttered. Zerra couldn’t look Cassias in the eyes. She lowered her head. "Cassias, I am sorry. I have to go to retrieve my memories right now... but I promise I will go back here once I am well again!"
However, she didn’t see the brokenhearted look on Cassias’ face. His breathing had become ragged. And his eyes... deep and filled with the pain of someone who had been abandoned.
Just recently, some dearest people to him had left him alone in this world. Would Zerra do the same?
