CHAPTER 238: CHAPTER 238: NOT RECOGNIZING HER

W-who is this?

Zerra stared at the reflection in a daze, not understanding why her looks were different. She recalled a fox with pinkish tips on its ears and tail earlier.

She couldn’t help but feel a little dejected.

Maybe... that one was the real fox friend of his.

And also... Nias’ adopted cub.

Her eyes fixed on the reflection in front of her, realizing it was her original look. How silly! She almost forgot she was originally a snow-white fox.

It was how she had looked in her fox form.

"Boss, look at this fox. It was so feral earlier, but now it looks so behaved. Is it broken?" The man’s subordinate, who was in charge of taking care of the spiritual beast cubs, muttered.

"What’s broken? It is staring at its own reflection. Nothing strange about it." The man snorted as he came in to fetch something, and he hurriedly went back to the other room.

What should she do? The wheels in her mind turned, and she decided in an instant. She should ask for help from Cassias to release her at least!

Then, she could help with whatever knot he had in his heart, and he could recover soon. She almost forgot their bodies were still above the whale’s body.

This world seemed too real.

As such, she began her operation. When the man’s subordinate walked closer to her to check on her condition, she bit his finger.

"Little fox, you are not broken, right? Those people like cute spiritual beasts like you, so you can fetch a high–"

His rambling abruptly stopped, and he let out a shriek of pain, throwing Zerra’s cage away. All the food and water splashed onto her, making her fur dirty.

She didn’t care, but she continued to act feral, letting out high-pitched screeches while clawing at her cage. The sounds were rather deafening, so the subordinate, who had gotten his hand bitten, snarled at her, "Shut up!"

He panicked, approaching and trying to shut her up. His eyes kept glancing at the door of the other room anxiously.

Zerra was even more energized. She raised the volume, making the subordinate almost close his ears, but he still held himself back. His hands reached for her falling cage, fixing it and hoping she would stop once he did.

Of course, Zerra didn’t. She growled at him menacingly, even she had the chance to bite him again.

The subordinate hissed and promptly let go, glaring at her venomously.

She frowned. Why haven’t they come to check yet? It was her only opportunity to escape, so she should seize it!

Oh! She suddenly remembered something! She was a fox. As such, she should use the ability that foxes are naturally gifted with.

"Take me to the other room." She ordered, staring at the subordinate seriously as if he were her subordinate instead.

It didn’t work. She frowned but didn’t give up. She repeated the commands a few times, her eyes full of agitation.

This fox body was still a cub, and it wasn’t exactly hers, so the amount of power she could summon was limited. Hence, it also affected her influence on the man.

After what felt like a thousand times, the man finally shifted his wooden expression, carrying her small cage into the other room. Zerra was finally relieved, but at the same time also a little anxious.

Cassias really didn’t recognize her.

As the door opened, the few people inside immediately turned their heads toward him, making the subordinate sober up. He appeared a little confused until his face became aghast.

"I am sorry, Boss–"

Zerra didn’t let go of the opportunity to make trouble. She once again used her ultimate move: high-pitched screams and paws clawing.

Shocked, the subordinate couldn’t hold her cage properly, and she fell on the floor.

The boss frowned when he saw such a feral little cub. Facing Zerra, he threatened. "Believe it or not, we will stew or roast you if you continue to misbehave."

Spiritual beast cubs were already intelligent. Don’t look at their little size, their age might have surpassed a human adult. However, their development was indeed slower compared to humans, both physically and mentally.

The boss knew Zerra could understand him. His brows were knitted together, as if contemplating thousand ways to cook her into a delicacy.

After all, if a feral spiritual beast cub injured its owner because they didn’t check properly, their business would also suffer in case the buyer had a strong background.

Zerra could already guess what was on the man’s mind in an instant. But would that make her stop? Of course not!

So, she fiddled with the door of her cage, acting like a docile little fox. She had controlled the subordinate to unlock it for her earlier.

The boss sneered, proud he had managed to threaten a little cub into silence. It was actually shameless, considering it was akin to him bullying a toddler.

"I am sorry, Your Excellency. I have let you witness a joke." The boss immediately apologized to Cassias, whose expression was still as indifferent as ever.

The beautiful pinkish fox was nestled in his embrace, looking around rather curiously.

Zerra knew Cassias had found his little fox friend, but... she still couldn’t help the sudden burst of irritation. Why? Why did she feel uncomfortable?

As such, she directed her uncomfortable feelings toward the boss. The cage opened with a click.

"We will compensate you–" before he could finish his words, he was kicked in the knee, making him double over. She climbed up onto his figure.

She let out a disdainful snort and kicked again. This time, her paw landed on his head. And something shocking happened that made her eyes grow wide.

Something was flying. Was it his head? Did she use too much force? She didn’t think she was that powerful.

Then, she looked down again, letting out a soft gasp in shock. A shiny head was presented in front of her eyes. The boss was a bald man!

He was currently fuming too! His face twisted, and he crawled toward the wig on the ground. Would Zerra let him have an easy time? Of course not. She climbed down and snatched his wig, dangling it in front of him like a naughty kid.

Every time he tried to snatch it back, she would successfully evade.

He was utterly humiliated. The boss chased after Zerra for a while, breaking some items in the process. Until he realized if this dragged on, the more humiliated he would become. So, he called his subordinates.

"Call others and capture this damn fox! We will stew it for dinner!" He announced through gritted teeth.

Originally, his other subordinates didn’t dare to join the chase because they had seen the little fox’s trick. She would deliberately stay beside some precious items. As the boss’s hand reached toward her, he would break things.

In his rage, more things were shattered.

Witnessing the fox’s cunning, they didn’t dare to act for fear of destroying something precious. The boss could destroy his own precious items, but for them, he might hold them accountable later.

They moved only after the boss gave them permission.

Still, even with more people trying to capture her, she was very nimble. As such, the room had transformed into a shipwreck in a brief span of time.

Zerra glanced around with satisfaction at her own craft. Very good. She stared at the panting people, who would accidentally hit some glass or porcelain shards, before she shifted her attention to Cassias.

He just stood there watching everything as if it were a show.

So, she walked toward him, looking a bit comical because of the wig on her head.

These people could only capture weak cubs. She hadn’t seen any ferocious beast cubs so far, so those humans should only have little power.

No spiritual beast would treat their fellow spiritual beast like that, selling their own kind like commodities, so they could only be humans. Why did Cassias mingle among humans so peacefully? She tilted her head.

Worse, it was those spiritual beast traffickers!

"I will deliver the payment for you after I leave." Cassias told them without caring about their condition.

He didn’t even glance at Zerra, who had been standing in front of her. She took a deep breath and sighed. Nevermind, he probably came here to pick up his fox friend.

She should just help him from the shadows. After she thought of it, she turned around, her eyes searching for a way out of this place, window or anything that led outside.

"Oh, right? I will also take this white fox."

Feeling someone lifting her up, Zerra subconsciously clung to whoever it was. She was about to attack, but the person caught her claw first.

Her eyes widened, and she stared at Cassias in surprise. Did he finally recognize her?

She heard curses from the men as they left the room, heading outside.

"Go, you are free now," Cassias put her on the ground and said.
