CHAPTER 242: CHAPTER 242: NYRA IN CASSIAS’ MEMORY?

Zerra was a little confused. If she spoke in a fox language they couldn’t understand, then... how did that scoundrel rabbit understand her?

Her eyes narrowed thoughtfully.

"Look, you scare her, Your Excellency," Cassias muttered, no longer as awkward or reserved as when they first lived with each other. They seemed to be getting along quite well when she was gone, eh?

"You also can’t understand her?" Nias’ eyes were sharp as she stared at him, impatient.

Zerra looked up, a little dejected.

"She is just a cub now, less than ten years old. Her thoughts are a bit chaotic, but she looks more intelligent compared to the other fox cubs," he explained.

She pursed her lips and sighed, not surprised at all. Her mother was a tiger, a spiritual beast like her too. It was impossible for her not to understand what she was saying otherwise.

"If we bring her to your master, will he understand?" Nias asked again.

Zerra perked up, and her ears twitched. Full of curiosity. Cassias had a master? He looked like a loner. Unexpectedly, he had one in the past hundred years. Who was it?

"Most likely not." Cassias shook his head. "But he has been looking for a way..."

Looking for a way for what? The more she listened, the more confused she became. Zerra jumped from the table, trotting toward them with her short legs.

The moment she did, their eyes were instantly on her, making her feel very self-conscious. Her short legs were also quite bothersome. She could take only small steps at a time.

Nias walked toward her and picked her up.

Suddenly, Zerra had a realization. That rabbit looked so weird. Perhaps it was a hybrid between a rabbit and a fox. It would explain why it could talk to her.

Nias put her on her lap, stroking the top of her head.

"Are you sure this is the one?" She opened her mouth again.

Zerra evaded her hand and stared at Nias with her watery eyes, full of accusation, as if questioning why Nias had forgotten her. Alas, she couldn’t understand the meaning behind Zerra’s look.

It made Zerra a little depressed because she also couldn’t speak to them.

"Just raise her for a few more years..." Cassias pursed his lips.

"What should we do with the fox cubs then? Some of them have parents. Those adult foxes have been suspicious of us," Cassias muttered.

"Just let them be. I have enough wealth to raise a few more fox cubs," Nias answered arrogantly, lifting her brows.

Cassias didn’t respond for a while. "You raise them as if you are raising pigs..."

Nias snorted, but she didn’t deny it. "Call that old thing to come here and check all the foxes."

After she nestled in Nias’ embrace, she slowly felt drowsy. It was really warm and familiar. In her sleepy state, she seemed to see a pink hue in front of her.

Something fluffy was hugging her. What is that...?

Then, by the time she regained consciousness again, she vaguely heard people talking. There was a man’s voice, mingling with other voices.

She couldn’t tell who was who.

"She will wake up soon..."

"... the one you are looking for..."

So, they already found out that she was the real fox, right? Happiness bubbled in her chest. When she woke up, she didn’t need to be cautious in front of them again...

She could be Zerra, the fox they have been searching for more than a hundred years. Hmm, why was she getting more and more drowsy?

Probably because of the man’s doing? She didn’t know who it was, but her last memory told her that her mother had called someone to confirm something about her.

Her thoughts were becoming more chaotic, jumping from one random thing to another.

Maybe she should teach that scoundrel rabbit a lesson too? Her mother surely would catch it for her...

If her mother wanted to fatten another fox, would she also be a fat fox?

And then, her thought paused a bit. She remembered a question she had been wondering for a while. Why was she trapped in this ten-year-old fox cub’s body? Had she died when she got swallowed by that sinkhole?

She was rebirthed...

Zerra suddenly jolted awake. The last thought stuck with her. As she tried to move her limbs, she groaned in pain.

Huh? She was a little surprised. Someone didn’t beat her up or something, right? Why did she feel as if her entire limbs were hurting?

Her eyes fluttered open. The surprise in her heart morphed into shock. She struggled to sit, and then her eyes scanned the surroundings.

Where was she again?

Since it was Cassias’ memory, she tried to find his figure, but he was nowhere to be found.

"I am a human...?" Zerra muttered, eyes widening. She just realized that items around her didn’t look as big as when she was a fox. Then, she glanced down.

A pair of arms.

She had really changed into her human form. She just didn’t know where she was now. There were no traces of Cassias or Nias around.

They couldn’t possibly discard her like that, so the only possibility was that Cassias was now replaying another scene. And she was occupying one of the character’s bodies.

Her heart was much more relieved now since she knew that her mother and Cassias were safe. She hadn’t heard about what Eldemar was doing, though. Hopefully, he was safe too.

She tried to stand up. A sudden hiss escaped her lips.

Then, she heard hurried footsteps.

"Why are you so stubborn? Go lie obediently in your bed!" A stern voice filled with anger floated to her ears.

She faltered, finding the voice familiar. Her head snapped toward the source, and she nearly fell down if not for someone who was fast enough to support her.

"Where are you going in such a condition?" The young woman asked her sharply. Her voice held a sarcastic edge.

Oh, she was injured. She almost forgot why she felt painful earlier. Her feet were full of bandages. Her upper arms were also full of bruises.

But it wasn’t her current focus. She fell into a daze. She still couldn’t understand why her elder sister was here?

Nyra was helping her to go lie down on the bed. Despite her harsh and sarcastic words, her actions were gentle. After she was done, Nyra interrogated her fiercely. "Where are you going?"

"Uh...I ..." Zerra stuttered. She couldn’t answer.

She didn’t even know the identity of the body she currently occupied, nor did she inherit her memories.

Was she someone Nyra was familiar with? She didn’t quite remember Nyra had a close female friend before she became a zombie.

Currently, she suspected she had occupied the body of a female friend Nyra had befriended after they defeated her zombie king form.

She frowned. Was this also Cassias’ memory? It seemed so abrupt. Going from the celestial realm to the modern world—post-apocalypse like that.

"Don’t make such a face." Nyra scowled. Before Zerra could respond, she turned around and left the room, leaving Zerra stunned.

She let out a breath, feeling extremely sleepy. Before she could close her eyes again, she nearly jumped in shock. Nyra had already appeared again in front of her bed in a flash.

"Drink," she ordered, holding a bowl in her left hand and a spoon in the other.

Zerra scrunched her face. The unpleasant smell drifted to her nose. She glanced at the spoon and was startled. What kind of poisonous liquid was that?

The liquid was brown, reeking of the bitter smell of medicine.

"Open your mouth." Nyra was looking at her with narrowed eyes.

Zerra sighed and resigned to her fate. The moment she opened her mouth, a bitter taste assaulted her taste buds, nearly making her vomit.

She shuddered. It was as if the bitterness was spreading through her veins, making her uncomfortable. Too bitter! Unfortunately, she had to drink even if she didn’t want to. There was still a bowl of them...

After a while, she managed to finish it with some struggle, laying on the bed like a dead fish.

Her eyes followed Nyra’s retreating figure. She bit her lip at the sudden realization. What should she answer if Nyra suddenly asked about things she didn’t know about?

It was decided. She would pretend to have amnesia.

Honestly, it was confusing to her. Even if it was a memory—something that had happened in the past–she didn’t want to act out of character...

She still wanted to be herself.

Soon, Nyra returned. This time, she insisted on watching her sleep and not letting her run around.

"I am not sleepy..." Zerra sighed. Her sleepiness was gone because of the bitter medicine.

She glanced at Nyra with some hesitation and asked. "Actually, I have lost my memory."

Nyra’s head snapped toward her.

"What is my name? You are my friend, right? What happened to me?" She asked the questions in one breath.

Nyra didn’t answer. She kept staring at her until Zerra started to feel uncomfortable.

"Are you throwing a tantrum again? Still mad that I, your sister, forbid you from running to the mountain to find spirit beasts again?" Nyra glared at her.

Zerra’s jaw dropped in shock.
