Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 246: Following Cassias
CHAPTER 246: CHAPTER 246: FOLLOWING CASSIAS
Cassias was fighting against a dozen zombie beasts, madly slaughtering them. Whenever he passed, a rotten body fell, piling like a small mountain behind him.
He clutched his sword, staring ahead coldly at the incoming zombie beasts in front of him, taking a few seconds to rest. As the horde arrived, he grasped his sword tighter and swung down.
Two or three zombie beasts died; one exploded when the other two got sliced accurately in the head and chest. He snorted, his face scrunched in displeasure as he wiped the blood splashing onto his cheek.
After a brief pause, the slaughter began again. His eyes occasionally flashed with golden irises. His wings fluttered in the sky, staying a few meters above the ground.
He was alone.
Zerra was situated a hundred meters from the battlefield, yet none of the zombie beasts came to her.
A frown marred her forehead. She glanced at her paws; once again, she had become a fox. She didn’t even have the time to ponder about what would happen to Nyra once she learned about the death of her younger sister before she was thrust into a baffling scene yet again.
As a zombie king, she tried to exercise some minor control over the zombie beasts at the back. It failed.
"Maybe I am not close enough?" She muttered to herself.
With that, she approached the battlefield, trying to stay within a safe range. She wanted to study what was happening here, so she didn’t want to get killed so quickly again this time.
She tried again, wanting to control them a little so that she could lessen Cassias’ burden. If she could slow them down a little...
Eh? Her frown deepened. Still failed? She guessed that her ability had been greatly restricted because of the small body. This time, she didn’t dare get too close again.
If the zombie beasts noticed her, she would be a burden for Cassias.
She could only watch helplessly as Cassias slashed each zombie beast without rest. For the next three hours, she stared at him with some anxiety.
After he dealt with the last zombie beast, he collapsed under a tree, breathing hard. His eyes were closed as he drifted off to sleep because of exhaustion. Zerra approached him slowly.
Just as she thought he had fallen into a deep slumber, his eyes abruptly opened, scaring her, and she nearly jumped back in shock. Golden irises still occasionally flashed in his eyes.
"Hello?" She waved her paw in hesitation, standing beside his foot. He was looking at her now. Did he finally recognize her?
She didn’t have the time to check how she looked like in this scene yet.
Suddenly, his hand reached out. Startled, she willed herself not to move. However... a slight loss enveloped her. In the past, she pretended to dislike it when Cassias touched her fur, always biting his hand.
Now, he completely ignored her. He wasn’t aiming for her fur. Instead, he was reaching for the drinking pouch.
"You? Are you ignoring me?" She blinked in disbelief. A look of contemplation crossed her face.
"Or... you can’t understand what I am saying?" She muttered, finding it made a lot of sense.
At this point, Cassias had already closed his eyes again. It was unknown whether he had truly fallen asleep this time.
Impulsively, Zerra kicked his foot using her hind leg. Then, she witnessed something incredible that she almost couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
"I-I... how...?" She stuttered.
Her leg passed by Cassias’ foot like an invisible, formless entity. He didn’t even stir in the slightest, showing that he hadn’t noticed her presence.
A realization dawned on her. No wonder she couldn’t control the zombie beasts. He also couldn’t see her.
She was like a ghost who existed in another dimension. All she could do was watch what was happening around him, without being able to influence anything.
This world might have detected her presence and reduced her to a passerby.
"My Lord..." A careful voice laced with slight anxiety sounded from behind her. She turned back, finding a nervous lion staring at Cassias.
Zerra jumped in front of him, kicking its leg, circling around him and biting his tail. She still couldn’t touch anything. All her limbs went through.
Cassias opened his eyes again. The lion shivered, lowering his eyes and not daring to meet his eyes directly. From his behavior, she concluded the lion was his lackey.
"Let’s go." Cassias stood up. He and the lion burned the carcasses before they left.
He spread his wings and flew above the ground. The lion ran after him. Their speed was very fast. Zerra hurriedly ran after them.
She didn’t know whether she was fortunate. If she were in the same dimension as them, she might not catch up with her short legs. But she could at least follow and not lose sight of them in this condition.
Since both were very fast, they quickly arrived in the city after an hour.
A human city.
The lion had shifted into his human form, a man with long sparkling golden hair. Cassias had retracted his wings before they entered the city.
Zerra’s curiosity was piqued. What was he doing here?
Along the way, she heard some chatter.
"The City Lord is going to block access to our city in a few days. We won’t be able to leave or enter the city," a guard gossiped.
"Isn’t that good? The zombies are becoming more rampant lately. A lot of people have been clamoring for the City Lord to forbid people from coming to our city and spreading the zombie virus!"
Zerra furrowed her brows. It was that severe already? She hadn’t expected that the apocalypse didn’t only happen in the human realm, but also the celestial realm.
She was aware zombies had been showing up more lately, but it was already to this degree.
Too caught up in her own thoughts, she nearly lost sight of Cassias. Before he disappeared into a corner, she hurriedly chased after him.
Not long after, they arrived at some kind of building. Zerra didn’t know what it was. She followed them in.
There were more spiritual beasts inside, all of them in human form. They all greeted Cassias, "My Lord! You have returned."
Cassias merely hummed in acknowledgement. He sat in the principal chair.
The spiritual beasts hurriedly gave him a document. Cassias went through the documents while listening to his subordinates’ reports.
"Her Excellency Nias was seen in the celestial beasts’ domain a few times. Her last location seems to be the Fox Clan’s territory." The man glanced at Cassias’ expressionless face.
At this moment, the lion spoke up. "My Lord, why don’t you ask Her Excellency? Maybe she has found something."
Zerra’s ears perked up, waiting for Cassias’ response.
"She hates me."
