CHAPTER 43: CHAPTER 43: IMPORTANT NEWS

Zerra pursed her lips. The plot here in the Moon Cloud city hadn’t ended yet... she still had to serve some of her purposes.

And in order to survive, or had that sliver of chance, she had to improve her power. She needed to work on her laziness and started collecting crystal cores.

Even if she wanted to go find her parents, it was impossible for now.

"Do you want to go find Father?" Nyra suddenly opened her mouth, sending an unclear gaze toward Zerra.

The addressed girl pursed her lips, and just as she was about to answer, Nyra shifted her attention to Laziel, raising her eyebrows. She was asking him the same question.

Laziel swallowed. "I will just follow your arrangement..."

"If we go now, with natural disasters still happening everywhere, it will endanger our own lives. The capital seems safe with the government building some recent infrastructure with high walls, but the journey there..." Nyra spoke.

"They are safe anyway. You don’t need to worry." Nyra’s lips curled up into a thin smile. "Cassias had told me that they were in the capital."

Zerra felt something stuck in her throat. She sent Cassias a look before stiffly withdrew her gaze. Even if he became entangled with Nyra in the future... She still couldn’t help but was a bit disappointed.

He hadn’t told her such important news.

"Are they really in the capital?" Zerra asked without looking at him, toward none in particular. Still, she let out a sigh of relief. At least they were safe.

"Yes, my parents invited them to come to the capital." It was Cassias who answered.

Zerra nodded. They must have gone when the signals hadn’t been unavailable. By the time they arrived there, the signal couldn’t be accessed anymore.

The more Zerra thought about it, the more confused she became. Wasn’t the plot going haywire too much lately? Everything was messed up, like the first draft written by a newbie author.

Nothing made sense anymore once the story crossed a certain number of Chapters.

"Thank you." Zerra still told Cassias.

Among the four of them, only the poor Laziel didn’t have a space. Even so, for this dinner, they were asking for the supplies in Zerra’s inner space.

She inwardly snorted. They still insist on keeping secrets, don’t they? Fine! When she turned into a fox again, just watch her spy on more of their secrets and steal all Cassias’ wealth.

Her heart felt blocked. Zerra went to the bathroom with a slightly unreconciled heart. Everyone was silently excluding her.

Ugh, what a useless mortal feeling.

Laziel wasn’t as annoying as he used to, always finding the slightest fault with her. Nyra was still sarcastic and despised her, but there was a minor improvement.

And Cassias... he worshiped her like she was an ancestor–well, that was only limited when she was in her fox form, though. Once he found out the truth, he might discard her like a useless rag doll.

After dinner finished, she excused herself. She went to the balcony, silently looking at the stars. When would this endless reincarnation finally end?

She was already tired, and even more so... very lonely. Nothing in this world really belonged to her. What was the purpose of her repeating life over and over again, anyway?

She suspected a few things, but she couldn’t be sure of them. Was it because this world wanted her to fix something? But... What is it?

"Zerra."

Someone called her name. A light breeze brushed her shoulder and the right side of her face. Cassias stood beside her.

He asked, "Don’t you feel cold? You still need to recover. Remember what the doctor had said."

Why care so much? She glanced at him, snorting, but didn’t answer. That fake personality wouldn’t work on her, like pretending to care when he actually didn’t.

She had seen enough of his tricks.

"Are you angry at me?" Cassias’ voice drifted over again.

"No."

"You sound like you are angry." He concluded.

Before she could respond again, he suddenly asked a question she least expected. "Do you want to go to the capital?"

She opened her mouth. No words came out. Taking a deep breath, she pursed her lips. She didn’t even know what she wanted.

Puffing out her cheeks, she answered, "Eldest sister’s reasoning makes sense. Since they are safe, there’s no need to hurry."

Even if he agreed, there will be something delaying them. Maybe it will be another earthquake, flood, or even a new zombie attack.

He scrutinized her face, as if determining whether she was serious or not.

Zerra scrunched her nose. "I am serious. It will be better if we improve our power first. Laziel already told me about what had happened to the three of you. I-I also... want to gather crystal cores."

"Alright." Cassias nodded, his voice soft and pleasant.

With that face, if only he wasn’t the scumbag male lead... then maybe she could befriend him. Too bad his real personality was too unlikable.

"I heard you picked up a fox." She changed the topic. Her eyes flashed with cunning. "It’s the first time I heard you actually like cute animals."

Looking at the curiosity in her eyes, Cassias replied, "I did, but it’s gone now. I haven’t found the fox again yet. Maybe it’s already going back into the wild. Anyway, the fox is a zombie, so it will be safer somewhere outside."

Then, he continued, "Yes. I like such animals. The fox likes crystal cores so much. I have gathered some more for it."

Zerra’s heart was beating wildly in her heart. Even when they were already back in their rooms, she still drooled over the crystal cores. Sadly, she couldn’t eat them in her human form.

Zerra was actually feeling quite despondent. Ever since she became a zombie too soon, she suspected the plot was going astray. Hence, it was trying to fix itself again now.

As a result of detecting a bug, she couldn’t even change to her fox form according to her will.

The next day, Nyra went out again like a busy bee. Laziel followed; they were taking some missions to gather supplies from outside again.

However, she knew the truth; Nyra was looking for some more crystal cores. Actually, Zerra wanted to find an opportunity to go out too.

She wanted to test the perks of being a future zombie king. The betrayal of her first minion left her with a bitter taste. They weren’t supposed to be interested in the flesh of fellow zombies.

Well, she didn’t look like one from the outside, but she could feel the blood in her body changing. It was much darker.

Just as she thought about it, she lifted her head. The balcony had become bigger somehow. Oh, she was so lost in thoughts that she didn’t realize she had turned into a fox again.

"Zerra?" Her heart jolted.

She heard Cassias’s voice.
