CHAPTER 49: CHAPTER 49: ZOMBIE AMONG HUMANS

"Why are you yelling at me?" Zerra put her hands on her hips, looking at him with suspicious eyes.

William jolted. He suppressed his emotions, then turned around and took large steps forward as if running from her.

She narrowed her eyes. Her hand was a second away from summoning her pitchfork and stabbing him, but before the opponent started the battle, he ran away.

Oh, nevermind, she wasn’t a violent person, anyway. Definitely wasn’t.

The night passed without a hitch, except for the bound three people who had miraculously survived. They didn’t even show any signs of turning into a zombie, surprising everyone.

The rate at which people were turning into zombies had been shortened now, taking less than two days. If one didn’t show any sign like peeling skin or faint rancid smell in half a day, then they would be declared free of zombie virus infection.

Each one of the bitten people had the power of wind, ice, and fire, respectively.

"Since you all already recovered, then get in the truck." Henry had a faint flicker of surprise in his eyes. He nodded in approval of them. Then, he lifted his brows when he noticed that a minute passed without them moving.

The three of them were merely exchanging glances and nudging each other. A sign of hesitation.

"Hurry up. We are going to depart soon." Henry glanced at them impatiently.

"Um, boss, it’s better if we go to Mr. Valez’s vehicle." The one with ice ability, Draven told Henry.

"Why?" Henry’s forehead was marred by a frown. A look of suspicion crossed his face. "Are you defying my order and want to go to their side now?"

Their hearts shook at the ominous rage in Henry’s eyes.

"It’s not like that, Boss." They scratched the back of their heads. "It hasn’t been twelve hours yet. What if we suddenly turn into zombies? We will endanger the lives of other teammates."

"That’s right." His friend hurriedly nodded in agreement. "The back of Mr. Valez’s truck is empty, anyway. We can hitch a ride with them."

Henry’s eyes gazed at each of them with a contemplative glint. They fidgeted under his stare.

"Fine. Come back to the group later. We must get as much supplies as we can," Henry told them. He turned around and went to his vehicle.

The sky was still slightly dark. They all went to their vehicle after killing any incoming zombies.

Zerra was inside the car with Cassias again, her eyes glued to the window, watching the man from yesterday pacing back and forth near a truck.

"What are you looking at?" Cassias followed her line of sight.

She turned her face to him and coughed. For a moment, she couldn’t determine the cause of the man’s anxiety. He was a bit strange.

In ten minutes, the group continued their journey again. Within another half a day, they finally arrived at the supermarket, which was located at the border of two cities.

They had been driving under the droplets of rain. It was quite heavy, making them unable to move the things to the trucks as soon as possible.

Zerra narrowed her eyes at the fog-like surrounding. The rain... it was similar to the first rain during the start of the apocalypse.

Fortunately, the sky turned clear a few hours later. After eating a hot meal of instant noodles like others, they began to work.

She didn’t miss the faces of the Brown family’s cronies. Originally, they were about to turn into zombies. She could sense it faintly, but overnight, the zombie virus infection suddenly stopped.

They became healthy again, still alive and kicking. There should only be one reason that could make sense. From the way they kept glancing at Cassias, most likely he had secretly helped and recruited them.

"The sky is clear. Let’s start moving." Darren clapped his hands loudly to draw their attention as he announced.

"Have you opened the underground warehouse? You have the key." He sent Henry a scrutinizing look. It was the spare key the businessman had given to them.

"Of course." Henry snorted. "I won’t run away with it. Don’t worry, Valez."

They all followed Henry to the underground warehouse. The moment the place was opened, they all let out a gasp of surprise. There were a lot of grains stacked, boxes of canned food, and bottles of mineral water.

Remembering the previous incident, Henry cleared his throat and told them. "Watch out for any zombie. The most important thing is your life. If a zombie suddenly attacks you, put down the things you carry and save your life first."

The moment he chose to abandon those people who had been bitten by the zombies at the hotel, he sensed from their subtle actions that they became more wary of him. So, in order to gain their trust again, he had to make such a speech.

They would definitely understand, right?

He just never expected that those people didn’t become zombies at all. After all, he had seen it with his own two eyes that they had been scratched and bitten.

Upon listening to Henry’s words, they nodded. Nevertheless, the human hearts were unpredictable. Their true thoughts remained unknown.

They all began to load the supplies to the trucks, arranging them carefully so that the vehicle could carry a large amount of supplies.

"William, don’t just stand there," Henry berated his subordinate, who merely stood by the truck like a statue.

"Drag him to the warehouse and let him carry things." He ordered his people, pointing at William, who was clutching his face.

Zerra’s pupils dilated. She immediately recognized a fellow zombie. That man, William, had turned into a zombie! She hadn’t sensed it because of his strength. He was a level two ability user.

The way he tried to wrap himself in long sleeves and thick clothes, he might have been aware that there was a chance he was turning into a zombie!

He had gotten scratched and didn’t report his condition honestly.

Cassias saw the fidgeting Zerra, who was about to jump out of the high truck. He immediately caught her. His heart nearly jumped along with the sound of her feet that successfully landed on the ground.

"What happened?"

She pointed at William.

Henry, who now had his back to William, was unaware of the incoming danger. It was the same for the two subordinates who were scolding William.

"Come on, William. Don’t be lazy. We come here to pick up supplies, not go on a picnic!"

Just as the subordinate was about to touch the stubborn William’s hand, the zombie William had jumped, heading toward Henry with beast-like snarls.

"Boss, watch out!"

Henry turned around. What greeted him was the sharp teeth of the zombie along with dirty nails riddled by zombie virus.
