CHAPTER 52: CHAPTER 52: MISCHIEF

In the dark night, only the light of the moonlight shone through the front of the supermarket. The moon above tinted with faint red color, somewhat ominously.

Zerra, like a small shadow, slipped into the thin trees nearby.

She rummaged through her inner space, finding some pebbles and soil inside. A thought flashed through her mind. Maybe she could try to plant things in her space in the future?

Shaking her head, she focused on the current task.

Instead of being afraid, Cassias gave a low and dangerous chuckle. "Then, take it yourself."

Zerra would have clapped and cheered on him if she wasn’t the cause of the trouble. And probably started to take some snacks to enjoy the live action. Alas, as a responsible fox, she couldn’t.

The Brown family’s men all looked at each other with some hesitation in their eyes. The wind carried a faint whisper from one of them. "He is the one who killed the zombie. He must be powerful..."

Oh, a smart one. Zerra nodded in agreement as she perched on a small branch of the tree a few meters away from their spot.

Nevertheless, the smart one wouldn’t have a place amidst a group of little cannon fodders like them.

The big, burly man beside the smart one smacked him, effectively making him shut up. Zerra instantly recognized the man to be the person who was nearly turning into zombies.

Oh, Cassias’ newly recruited minion, no wonder.

"What? Are you challenging us?" the voice boomed in the quiet night.

"Let’s attack. He is only one person. I won’t believe that us few ability users are no match for him." Another one chimed in.

"Right, he was just lucky he caught the zombie off guard with the help of that girl with the space ability."

After they said their part of the villainous lines, the biggest man among them took a few steps forward aggressively. His figure was such a contrast to Cassias’s slender frame, who looked like he would fall with a mere small push.

"Since you want it the hard way, then—"

Zerra yawned in boredom. Then she blinked as she watched the man be cut off midway just as he was about to utter yet another boring line.

In his mouth, he had a few sharp pebbles inside.

The man coughed the gravel inside his mouth. It didn’t stop Zerra. As soon as others began to advance toward Cassias, she used a bit of spiritual energy in each pebble and threw it at them.

It wouldn’t kill, but would hurt like hell.

Her aim was excellent, especially in the fox form, where her senses were enhanced. She effectively targeted their exposed necks, heads, and limbs. Each hitting the part where it would hurt most. She didn’t need to throw a lot.

"Ouch, what is it?" A man groaned, his eyes went wide as if his eyeballs were about to pop out from the pain. A pebble landed in a certain region between his legs.

"The pebbles seem to come from that place! Someone must have been hiding there. Catch the bastard before we deal with this arrogant scoundrel." They yelled.

Three people ran toward the place where Zerra was hiding. She was very quick, disappearing like a shadow, and appeared again in another tree a few meters away.

She watched as they messed with the tree, breaking the branches, kicking and smashing it when they found none.

"Where is the rascal? He must have been hiding somewhere?"

Zerra hummed to herself as she threw them another set of pebbles. They went to find her in her tree, but she was already gone again.

It happened several times. When they realized that they had been played, it was too late. They felt pain all over their bodies.

"Mr. Virethorn." The ice ability user tremblingly approached Cassias.

Cassias turned to him, raising his eyebrows. "Does anything matter?"

"Did you do all of that?" He looked at the people who were cursing and yelling. They groaned in pain while clutching the region between their legs, screaming for ghosts.

"This place is haunted..." they whispered between a groan of pain. Then they shuddered. "Or might be that scoundrel’s doing. He can control ghosts..."

"I don’t know." Cassias shrugged. He swept his gaze around, lingered longer in the tree Zerra was on before he moved his gaze elsewhere.

He tapped the man’s shoulder and told him, "It’s our duty to guard the supplies now. Do your best."

"Of course, Mr. Virethorn." The man gulped and nodded frantically. He watched as Cassias was heading toward the groaning men. The man was worried about their lives now.

Luckily, his worry didn’t happen. Just as the man scrambled to run as soon as they spotted Cassias heading toward them, they heard him speak. "Guard this place. I will go to the other side."

None objected. They didn’t dare to. Even without the pebbles incident, they found out that the man was too calm; the confidence which stemmed from the fact that he was sure he could handle all of them easily.

He wasn’t as rash or irritable as their boss, Henry.

They witnessed as Cassias headed to the left side of the supermarket, the place they hadn’t had time to explore yet.

The supermarket was actually quite big. The trees that Zera used to hide earlier were part of the decoration in their cafe. They had used actual trees, planting them near the set of tables and chairs.

The front of the supermarket was still wide enough, though. They could still park at least two trucks after moving some food stalls from the other side of the small cafe.

The businessman who built this supermarket really didn’t leave any stone unturned.

Zerra tilted her head to the side and licked her paw, the habit she could never get rid of ever since she was a small baby fox. And that was some thousand years ago–without counting her reincarnations.

"Come out. I know you miss me and couldn’t bear to part ways with me."

She stopped dead in her tracks, no longer half-running toward him. Her mouth twitched. She just found out today that Cassias was such a narcissist.

The next thing she knew, a huge shadow loomed over her. Cassias lifted her to the air. She flailed around and bared her teeth at him in a rage.

He chuckled, then set her down. She rolled her eyes and gave him her side profile. Until she remembered the most important thing.

She held out her hand eagerly at him.

Cassias raised his eyebrows, his lips curled up into a devilish smile. "You want some crystal cores? But I no longer have crystal cores with me."

Zerra narrowed her eyes, not budging the slightest. As if she would believe him.

As though he could read her mind, he sat beside her and asked, "What? You don’t believe me?"

Her eyes palpitated when she saw a smirk forming on his lips. Something malicious must have flashed in his mind!

"How about we hunt for them instead?" His voice rang out in her ears.

Before she could process them, he snatched her up again. His hand opened some kind of door to an unknown area.

Inside, there were a lot of zombies.

And Cassias, being the wicked male lead he was, threw her small frame straight into the densely packed zombies. Her fur trembled as she lurched like a missile into the air.

Curse Cassias Virethorn! May a lighting strike him that his butt lights up like a disco lamp!
