CHAPTER 54: CHAPTER 54: MAKING FUN OF CASSIAS

Zerra flailed and struggled, slipping from Cassias’ hands a few times. However, this man was like a devil’s incarnation. He would laugh and pick her up, knowing she couldn’t go anywhere.

Even if she stretched her paw to bop his face, it didn’t matter. He still wouldn’t let her go.

She might have underestimated this stinky male lead’s preference for cute foxes like her. Just look how this devil would occasionally let out an evil chuckle at her useless attempt in escaping.

Cassias wouldn’t show such a soft side to others.

He was usually taciturn, only speaking when necessary. His smiles mostly never reached his eyes.

"Why? Not running anymore?" Cassias raised his eyebrows. His eyes were full of teasing as he reached out to touch her tail.

Zerra jumped, kicked his paw away, and sulked.

He spent half an hour harassing her. Perhaps it was exhaustion because he had slaughtered too many zombies today; he fell asleep soon after.

Zerra sneaked a glance at him. Her eyes scanned his deceitful facial features. He was too good looking with that smooth skin, perfect jawline, and long eyelashes.

Her eyes turned to his chest, which was heaving up and down steadily. She wouldn’t be fooled by such an easy trick. So she waited longer. Until she was sure as hell that this man really fell asleep.

An hour later, she tried to check whether he was truly asleep now.

She tapped his face lightly. He grimaced and shifted in his sleep, yet he didn’t wake up. Zerra blinked. Her mind instantly wondered; was the male lead such a heavy sleeper?

She couldn’t recall.

Climbing to his chest, Zerra watched his face like a hawk, almost glaring.

A sudden idea struck her as she studied his almost flawless countenance. She jumped into the passenger seat, where they had kept the snacks there.

There was chocolate. She dipped it in the water in her inner space and then... she snickered to herself just by thinking about it. She smeared the chocolate on Cassias’ face.

After she was done, she marvelled at her wonderful work of art. Cassias’ nose, forehead, and two cheeks had brown spots on them. He didn’t even wake up during the process, only shifting a bit uncomfortably a few times.

Zerra concluded that he was too tired. Slaughtering the entire zombies in the vicinity was no small feat after all.

"Don’t..."

Her entire fur stood up when she heard his faint murmur. Her paw was reaching for the car door, which she made sure earlier was not locked.

She glanced at his sleeping face, heaving a sigh of relief.

Without further hesitation, Zerra opened the door and jumped out. After slamming it closed, she ran as fast as possible toward the motel.

Her heart thumped wildly as she glanced at her surroundings before she went inside her room. There was none around. Although everything went smoothly, she couldn’t help but overthink.

Her fox brain spun; she licked her paw in full contemplation. Was Cassias such a heavy sleeper, or was he merely pretending?

After she arrived at the motel room did she notice some strangeness. It made her feel unsettled. That man might just let her do whatever she wanted...

Simply because of his preference for cute animals.

The knocking at the door made her jolt. She took a sharp breath in fright. Her little mind panicked; was that Cassias outside?

"Zerra, are you inside?" It turned out to be Nyra’s voice.

Still, she remained vigilant. Cassias could have tattled on her to Nyra; like catching a witch and intending to burn her at the stake.

Plus, she was still in her fox form.

"Answer me if you are inside. I have been knocking on your door a few times. Don’t sleep like a pig. Wake up!" Nyra knocked harder this time.

Did she want to make the door crumble? Zerra complained in her heart.

Even if she wanted to speak, she couldn’t!

"I am going to break inside if you don’t answer. We don’t know if you got dragged by a zombie or something. Darren found a lot of dead zombies around..." Nyra’s urgent voice rang again.

Panicked, Zerra paced back and forth in the room.

She saw someone pulling on the window. One look and she knew that it would break just with just one more tug.

"What? Quit yelling..." she croaked. Zerra widened her eyes and looked down. She has already turned into a human again.

Clicking her tongue, she smacked her own forehead. How could she forget? She hadn’t finished being the male lead’s treasured pet yet.

She hadn’t become an obstacle in Nyra and Cassias’ relationship, which strangely was moving too slowly this time around.

When she was in the fox form... she suspected her size of brain also decreased her intelligence. She must have been crazy for going to that stinky, perverted male lead out of her own volition.

"What happened to your voice? Open the door." Nyra insisted.

Annoyed, Zerra headed to the door and opened it. She frowned at Nyra and asked, "What?"

There was no Cassias outside. She heaved a sigh of relief inwardly. Then she scrutinized Nyra, whose face filled with some dirt. The rancid smell of zombies entered her nose.

"You have been inside the room for a while?" Nyra asked with her interrogative tone, similar to a police interrogating a suspect.

"Yeah, I am sleepy." Zerra faked a yawn. "Be quick, say what you need from me."

"Nothing. Go back to sleep." Nyra muttered. Before Zerra could respond, Nyra already walked away.

After she was gone, Zerra’s forehead was full of wrinkles as she recalled Nyra’s words. They must have gone to those areas where Cassias had slaughtered the zombies before.

Would they think that it was a strange anomaly? On top of that, did the five free laborers from the Brown family tell them nothing?

She shook her head. Why should she think about it, anyway? It was Cassias’ trouble. Zerra yawned and tossed herself onto the bed.

Because of the plot, Cassias shouldn’t have known that the fox was her. She convinced herself before she drifted to sleep.

Anyway, let’s just see whether her amazing painting on his face was still there when he showed up in the morning...

Zerra woke up eagerly, with a renewed spirit. They still had the task of filling the trucks with supplies again. Moreover, she also had her own task — using her space to store things.

"Zerra, go inside. We already separated the items and put them in the boxes." Darren told her as soon as he saw her.

They already knew she needed to touch the items and imagine them inside her space to put things there. Moreover, her mental power was also limited. For that reason, they already packed the items.

She gave a thumbs up, but she didn’t immediately go inside. Her eyes flitted around the environment, searching for Cassias.

Giggling to herself, her eyes widened when she saw Cassias walking toward them.
