CHAPTER 66: CHAPTER 66: SCOTT RETURNS

As soon as Scott’s words fell, the environment changed once again.

This time, it was full of zombies and people with missing limbs dragging their bodies toward her. Zerra didn’t panic this time; her eyes became thoughtful.

Illusion?

Her eyes trained on the zombies one meter away from her. Indeed, they would look very real if one had a feeble mind.

She just didn’t expect that this mortal world also had the power of illusion. When one zombie arrived near her, grabbing her arm and chomping down, she didn’t evade it.

Now, she began to notice some flaws. High-level illusion masters could make their targets feel the sensation of the world in the illusion, unable to differentiate between what was real and false.

There was no pain when the zombie bit her. It disappeared, followed by another horde. Such images only served for intimidation. Normal people would have been afraid even if someone had told them it was an illusion.

Zerra closed her eyes.

"Wake up," she muttered after she opened her eyes again, patting Cassias’ shoulder.

His eyes were unfocused. It was unknown whether they had seen the same scene.

In the span of a few minutes they were trapped in the illusion, Scott had tied the unconscious people back with ropes.

He grinned at them the moment he saw Zerra had broken out of the illusion again. "You are very quick."

His expression turned twisted suddenly, full of displeasure. "You just had to untie their ropes and play the hero, Miss Zerra, huh?"

One look and Zerra concluded that this man had a screw loose. He appeared mentally unstable.

Scott didn’t try to force them into illusion once. He tried again, and this time the duration was longer. Zerra eventually managed to break the next illusion with some difficulty.

"You only have zombies as the background of the illusion, huh? That’s not very creative." She mocked him.

He snapped his head toward her, whose face was flushed at this moment, a little dizzy. Breaking the illusion had cost her some mental power, and judging from the way Scott seemed so unbothered, she concluded that he wasn’t the source of the illusion.

There might be something else that conjured it, like a mutated animal. Those mutated animals had a bit more variety in their power compared to humans, but illusion seemed to belong largely to mutated plants.

Scott’s expression stiffened, then he cracked a smile. His eyes flickered with amusement. "Miss Zerra doesn’t seem to understand the predicament she’s in."

Zerra frowned, and she had an awful premonition. She shifted uncomfortably. Her eyes blinked rapidly, and she looked down. She couldn’t move her hands. It turned out that she was bound, like those people she had freed earlier.

Her eyes flashed at a thought. If Scott was using illusion to trap those people, it was understandable that they were unable to escape. Eryx’s disoriented state... he looked like he was trapped by the illusion.

"I don’t know what method you are using to escape from my illusion repeatedly." Scott scoffed, "But it will be less painful if you just succumb to it, Miss Zerra."

Zerra rolled her eyes and didn’t answer him. She glanced at Cassias; her heart sank slightly. Cassias’ face had an ever-changing expression, very lively. One moment, he would frown and then his eyes narrowed in conflict.

He was still inside the illusion, unlike her, who had broken through it forcefully with spiritual energy. His feet and hands were also bound, just like hers.

"You have been luring all those people here." Zerra said matter-of-factly.

"Correct." Scott lifted his chin.

She snorted disdainfully at his disgusting, prideful expression. She looked away and swept her gaze around the surroundings; her little brain spun looking for a way out.

"You have those farm animals. Why do you need to capture humans? Does it not bother you to eat your own kin?" Her eyes narrowed, full of scrutiny.

Now that they had torn off all pretense, she also wouldn’t be polite to him.

Scott chuckled. His usual honest face was replaced by a look full of craziness. "It’s not me who eats them." He clicked his tongue. "Those people only want to exchange meat for the supplies, so they shouldn’t be picky."

Zerra’s stomach churned uncomfortably again at his words.

"What’s with that look, Miss Zerra?" He laughed. "Do you think that I deceived them? You just don’t know yet. At first, they were very resistant, but now gradually they also enjoy it. I am not the only one doing this!"

Zerra remembered the Brown family’s men in the first house. She couldn’t help but take a sharp breath in disbelief. It all now made sense. Those people were in the process of being cut open...

The people in this rural residential area were absolutely crazy.

She forced herself to calm down. Adjusting her emotions, she tried to fish out more information from him. "They have more people. Why don’t they try to steal your farm animals instead?"

It was unknown whether all the people here were involved in this cannibalism. If that were the case, most of the members who joined the mission might get wiped out.

"They wouldn’t dare," Scott muttered. "If they want it, they can exchange it with me using supplies."

Unfortunately, he didn’t elaborate further.

He was willing to indulge her in a brief chat, but his mood seemed to have turned worse. Zerra frowned. She had spread her senses to the farm animals at the corner, but she still hadn’t found the source of the illusion yet.

What was surprising was that there weren’t any mutated animals there despite the last fog. The farm animals still looked somewhat normal, just with a bit more intelligence.

"Are you done testing me, Miss Zerra?" Scott let out a boisterous laugh. "I am no longer interested in your foolish chit-chat now."

He turned around and walked toward an inconspicuous corner behind the chicken coops. As he walked, he told her. "Now, it’s time to introduce someone to you."

His figure disappeared behind the haystack. He used his hands to drag the haystacks one by one, gradually revealing another bound figure.

"Miss Zerra, meet my mother."

The woman was bound with ropes. Her long hair was messy and full of dirt, covering her lowered face. And when she lifted her head, Zerra could see her empty, white eyes.

She was a zombie.

"I am not interested in your flesh, but my mother particularly likes it."

As if affirming it, the woman let out a growl, showing her mouth full of blood that wasn’t hers.
