CHAPTER 522: ANOTHER CONFESSION (2)
On the other side, Lu Yu chased after Shen Zhen. He caught her wrist and stopped her from running any further. He said to her, "Where are you going in a hurry?"
Shen Zhen halted and turned to look at the man behind her. She frowned and said to him, "Didn’t you call me because someone was injured?"
"No." Lu Yu shook his head as he pulled Shen Zhen into a mansion that was cleaned just in the afternoon and walked over to the small garden where a swing was placed. "There is something that I want to talk to you about. Come and sit down."
Shen Zhen also seemed to have realised what was going on. She looked at Lu Yu and took three hesitating steps before sitting down on the swing that was in the middle of the garden.
This building was cleaned up just a few hours ago; thus, even though the mutated plants were cleaned, they could still smell the scent of roses mixed with something else that smelled suspiciously like blood.
Lu Yu said to Shen Zhen, "Doctor Shen, are you determined not to get married?"
"That’s right..." Shen Zhen nodded, but for some reason, she lacked the determination that she had in the past. This was because the man was looking at her with such a fierce look that her heart started to beat a bit wildly.
Hearing his response, Lu Yu knelt in front of her and said to her, "What if I tell you that I will try my best to win your heart and make you trust me?"
When Shen Zhen heard his words, she shook her head and spoke in a calm voice, "It’s not that easy. You have no idea how it feels. To be used and then discarded by your own father. I was made to work since I was ten, and my sisters were sold by him before they could even understand the way of the world. I couldn’t trust the man who was never supposed to let me down, so how can I trust strange men whom I don’t even know?"
She had seen the cruelty and selfishness of her father. He was a useless man who couldn’t do anything other than make his wife pregnant every second year and would later blame her for being a hen who couldn’t lay eggs just because she couldn’t give birth to a son.
As if that man had a throne to pass down to his son when the truth was that he couldn’t even raise his own daughters and had to rely on their earnings.
Her brother? He was the carbon copy of his father. He only knew how to open his mouth and ask for money from her. Never a word of thanks, never any show of gratitude. These two men were supposed to take care of her sisters, treat them with kindness, and make sure that they were protected.
What did they do? They sold them for money without even bothering to see what kind of family they were sending them to.
Her Tong Huan was still lucky; she was adopted by a nice family. But Jiang Haidai? She was still recovering from the pain that she went through and didn’t try to trust anyone. Even her.
Even now, she was just Doctor Shen to her sister.
Unexpectedly, Lu Yu smiled at her and said to her, "Then it’s alright. I never asked you to trust all men. I was asking you to trust me; as long as you can trust me, there is nothing that I need to worry about."
When Shen Zhen heard his words, she frowned and said, "You are a man as well."
"I am a man; I won’t refuse that—I mean, there is no point in refusing it. I am one. But I will show you that I am different from the other men. I will prove that I will not abandon you or our children if we have any."
"I am not going to give birth."
"That’s fine too. We can adopt a few children from the infirmary. Anyway, their parents are no longer around, and we will earn some merit if we give those children a proper life."
Shen Zhen smiled when she heard the words of the man. She sighed and shook her head before saying to Lu Yu, "Thank you for your kindness and understanding, but being a partner and parent is not that simple. I believe this kind of life is for me. I don’t want to cause any complications. It’s better if nothing changes and I live my life as I am living now."
She knew how trustworthy the words of a man could be. Her father had lied to her her entire life. He first asked her to work in a small shop, saying that the farm fields were not doing good and he needed a little money. He then sent her away to her aunt and asked her to stay there because food was not enough.
He then asked her to continue supporting the family because they didn’t have enough to eat.
So while they ate meat and drank soup, she relied on cheap noodles and survived in a small apartment that was so small that it was not even enough for a teen.
Lu Yu might be speaking some nice words because he wants to get into her pants at the moment, but what if they rolled in the bed and he had his fill? Would he still care for her? And those babies? There were more than ten babies who no longer had any parents. Could they raise them?
It was an impossible task. She had seen her father, who would curse at her mother; the second Jiang Haidai used to cry when she was a baby. Forget about cleaning their pee and poop; that man never even took them in his arms, saying that this was the job of a woman. A man’s words were like a rainbow fart.
It was better to ignore them.
