CHAPTER 531: NO CHOICE BUT TO FACE

Bai Jixuan dodged the pebble and turned to look at Bai Meiyue. He shot her a flashy smile before saying to her, "But you have to admit that he is in more danger when you two are together."

In the past, Bai Jixuan was indeed against Lei Qian, but after seeing the dynamics between the two, he could more or less understand that if there was someone who was bullied, then it would be Lei Qian.

When Bai Meiyue heard her second brother’s words, she rolled her eyes. She couldn’t believe that her second brother, who had always been supportive of her, would one day stand by Lei Qian. Shouldn’t he be questioning Lei Qian instead of worrying about him?

"What did she say?" Bai Zhan asked as he came to the greenhouse with Mother Bai. He glanced at the three people inside the greenhouse and then turned to look at Lei Qian before repeating, "What did she tell you just now?"

Lei Qian turned to look at Bai Meiyue, and when he saw that she was not stopping him from saying anything, he turned to look at Bai Zhan and said to him, "She said that... a plague has started outside."

No sooner did he finish speaking, the three members of the Bai family turned to look at Bai Meiyue, who shrugged her shoulders and then said in a calm voice, "I am speaking the truth. You can take a look outside; I believe the guards are still clearing up the mess left behind by the child who was infected by the corpse plague."

"What–what is a corpse plague now?" Mother Bai asked. Her body was slightly trembling as she questioned Bai Meiyue about the sudden plague that started out of nowhere.

"Just like how the name suggests, it’s a plague that causes the body of the infected person to slowly deteriorate from the inside. First, their organs would start failing and decomposing, followed by their flesh, and finally, their skin would fall off, leaving nothing but a puddle of broken bones, blood and flesh behind." Bai Meiyue had seen the effect that the corpse plague had on the bodies of those who were infected. Thus, she explained the entire matter quite clearly.

Of course, she didn’t want to scare her family members; she just wanted them to be careful. The last thing they needed was to get involved with another trouble, like a person getting infected by the corpse plague.

When Mother Bai heard the deadly effects of the plague, she stumbled backwards and slapped her thighs. She cried loudly, "Oh dear heavens! Will you even let us survive, or not? If this goes on, then how will we even live in this world?"

Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan were also troubled by Bai Meiyue’s words. This corpse plague sounded really troublesome and dangerous. If they were not careful, who knows what might happen to them?

"Is it contagious?" Lei Qian asked after recovering from his shock.

"Highly contagious," replied Bai Meiyue. "In the next few days, it will be better if you stay at home and don’t go out for no reason. And even if you go out, make sure that you don’t eat anything given by others, and you should also cover your mouth and nose. Wash your hands when you return, and only drink the water that I give you. If the water comes from unknown resources, don’t drink it. You have no idea what might be in it."

Lei Qian nodded, and so did the rest of the Bai family.

Bai Meiyue then explained to them about the uses of the herbs that she was growing; she didn’t want her mother to pull the herbs by mistaking them for weeds.

When Mother Bai heard that the herbs were useful for making the antidotes for the plague, she immediately trotted over and started examining the herbs. The little wood spirit followed after her. Mother Bai was still a third-level wood ability user; thus, she couldn’t see it unless she climbed up to level five.

However, her brothers, who had become rank five ability users, could. They saw the wood spirit and turned to look at Bai Meiyue, who shook her head and asked them to stay quiet. The most perfect way to keep their mother safe was by not telling her anything about her abilities.

As long as she thought of herself as a common survivor, no one would be able to take advantage of her.

When Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan saw that their sister was stopping them from speaking, they simply closed their mouths. The two brothers had no idea why Bai Meiyue didn’t want their mother to know about her abilities; they knew that Bai Meiyue would never do anything to harm their mother.

Thus, the two of them simply closed their mouths and went on with their usual day-to-day activities.

Lei Qian, on the other hand, followed Bai Meiyue out of the greenhouse. He looked at her and questioned, "Why did you stop your brothers from telling Mother about her abilities?"

"She is safer that way," explained Bai Meiyue. She glanced at Lei Qian, who was staring at her in confusion and then said in a low voice, "If she finds out that she is an ability user, she will become even more nervous. You know how my mother is; she gets jumpy about the smallest thing. Thus, she would certainly start acting weirdly. If my mother were a level one or rank two wood ability user, I would have ignored the matter. Unfortunately, she is a level three."

"She is quite strong as an ability user. If Yu Miaomiao or someone else finds out, then it will be troublesome. Just think about it: if I had told my mother about her abilities, would Yu Miaomiao have let her off? Especially after Wang Ba told her everything that he could to get the position that he enjoys today?"
