Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies
Chapter 533: Growing Well
CHAPTER 533: GROWING WELL
Bai Meiyue curled her lips when she heard Shen Zhen’s words. She should have expected something like this to happen. After all, even though she didn’t tell others, it didn’t mean that they wouldn’t come up with their own conclusions.
"Alright," Bai Meiyue agreed without saying anything else. She needed to get a checkup done anyway since Mother Lei had arranged for one, so there was no need for her to avoid it. As for whether Shen Zhen or the rest would be able to find anything amiss regarding Xiao Cai Cai’s spiritual affinity with the two elements, Bai Meiyue was not optimistic.
After all, other than being slower than their peers due to the two abilities trying to overwhelm one another, the children born from two opposing ability users were the same as other children. It would be almost impossible to detect anything through just ultrasound.
Bai Meiyue arrived at the medical floor where Lei Qian was quarrelling with his mother. Bai Meiyue could hear him say, "Mom, how many times did I tell you not to worry about this matter? Yueyue just started to get close to me. Now that you have asserted that you want her to go through such a detailed examination, what would she think about me? Would she not think that I was the one who urged you to do it?"
Mother Lei was speechless. She smacked Lei Qian on the shoulder and then said to him, "Yueyue is not as unreasonable as you. I am only looking after you two—don’t you know that fire and ice don’t go well together? Who can be sure that the child would be alright? I am just looking out for my grandson and making sure that your abilities are not causing him trouble. Where am I wrong?"
Unlike her son, Mother Lei took the notes that Bai Meiyue had sent quite seriously. She had read them really thoroughly and knew that there were chances for the children born from two opposing abilities to be either slow or born with certain deficiencies if the mother was not careful.
If the child was a slow awakener, it was not a big deal. Mother Lei didn’t expect the child to go and hunt down zombies anyway. However, if the child was filled with deficiencies, then it was better to be prepared, lest things take a turn for the worse. With Bai Meiyue already in the fourth month, it was too late for them to abort the child, but they could at least prepare themselves to take care of the special child.
She was only doing this because she was worried about her grandson. Why was her son making her the villain as if she had done something wrong?
"It’s alright."
Before Lei Qian could say anything else, Bai Meiyue stepped inside the examination room. She glanced at Lei Qian and said to him, "I don’t find this examination offensive. Your mother is only looking out for our son and her grandson."
When Lei Qian saw that Bai Meiyue was not angry, he heaved a sigh of relief. Honestly, he was worried that she would get angry due to the actions of his mother and would abandon him. It was a good thing that Bai Meiyue was more reasonable than he expected her to be.
Mother Lei nearly rolled her eyes when she saw how relaxed her son looked. If not for the fact that she was also worried about losing this daughter-in-law of hers, she would have certainly beaten the heck out of her son. He really knew how to act as a filial son, did he not?
She turned to look at Bai Meiyue and then said to her, "Thank you for saying these things, Yueyue. I am afraid if you didn’t come and speak up for me today, my own son would have made me a villain." After she finished speaking, she glared at Lei Qian, who opened his mouth to defend himself. "Shut up. Don’t you dare say that you didn’t mean it. I know very well what you were trying to insinuate just now."
Bai Meiyue, whose hands were held by Mother Lei, stiffened. However, she soon relaxed when the older woman smiled at her kindly. She didn’t sense any hint of scheming from Mother Lei, which eased her wary heart. "I didn’t do anything—if anything, it’s my fault; I am too suspicious by nature, which might be the reason why Master Lei was worried about my reaction."
"There is nothing wrong with being suspicious." Mother Lei said, patting Bai Meiyue on the back of the hand. As far as she knew, Bai Meiyue was the reason why she, her husband and daughter were alive. Bai Meiyue was her saviour, and whatever she did was right.
Bai Meiyue was a bit flustered by how Mother Lei was acting. Looking at her, she understood where Lei Qian got the habit of looking at her as if she were the moon of his sky. She took her hands back and said to Mother Lei, "I shall prepare for the examination."
After speaking, she went to change into a long hospital gown before heading to the room to get her blood taken. Lei Qian followed her as he, too, needed to get his blood tested, but as soon as he saw Bai Meiyue sitting on the stool and stretching her arm forward, he shivered.
And when Nurse Lin took out a syringe to take Bai Meiyue’s blood, he turned paler than the moon. But of course not as much as he did once Nurse Lin started to take Bai Meiyue’s blood. He looked at the syringe that was getting filled slowly and swayed on the spot. He covered his eyes and turned to look away, as he couldn’t see the sight in front of him.
"What the matter with you?" seeing the look on his face, Bai Meiyue couldn’t help but laugh. "Why are you acting like you have seen a ghost?"
