Apocalyptic Era: Starting from picking up a Bishoujo
Chapter 767 - 724: Seal Master Suspect
The North Pole and the South Pole belong to the two poles of the Earth, yet they have completely different characteristics. If the Antarctic is an ice-covered continent, then the Arctic is a frozen ocean. Although its surrounding geographic area also includes parts of land and islands, it is mainly dominated by the ocean.
Due to a large number of frozen areas, ships wanting to carry out long-distance activities here must use icebreakers. Fortunately, I can fly in the air, or if I wish, I can walk on water with the help of nature's omnipotence, and the ice surface can also become a landing point.
In the past, knowing there was some potential connection between the Arctic and the divine seal, I had visited this place, but never thought the target might be beneath the sea surface. With so many ice formations resembling land and islands, I, due to the subconsciousness of a land animal, only regarded the world above the sea as the entirety of the Arctic.
Actually, I shouldn't just casually run off to places like the Arctic. Although I can restrain my Fatian Xiangdi, the very existence of Impermanence subtly affects the natural environment. It might not be apparent for a while, but staying in such places for long will inevitably accelerate the melting process of the Arctic glaciers significantly, which in turn will lead to a rise in global sea levels.
It is said that if all the Arctic glaciers melted, the global sea level would rise by more than seven meters. This figure might not seem very alarming, but from what I remember, it would cause quite severe consequences. And if this were to happen in the Antarctic continent, the results would be even more severe, with a global sea level rise of around sixty meters, and the impact on global climate and ocean currents would be unimaginable, bringing devastating disasters for human civilization to bear.
However, it's impossible for me to actually stay in the polar regions for so long. If I really wanted to do something to the world or human civilization, melting the Earth's poles would be an inefficient way. For now, I just want to take a look around here and find something.
I extended my Perception, conducting a large-scale exploration of the frozen ocean below.
The Arctic covers a rather vast geographic area, approximately over twenty million square kilometers, more than twice the size of China. Even with Impermanence's Perception, it is impossible to encompass it all within range. Moreover, if it's not just a simple scan, but accurate searching for a specific small disc-shaped object among it, the difficulty skyrockets.
Soul perception tends to be more sensitive to other objects that have souls, I'm the same in this regard. If I must mention another point, I'm also more sensitive to things like heat sources. So in general, as long as the object is a warm-blooded creature, it becomes relatively easy for me to find, but if it's neither soulful nor heat-emitting inanimate matter, it becomes even more challenging.
Moreover, unlike land, the ocean is a very three-dimensional space, with different heights harboring radically different ecosystems. Of course, considering that the material density of the Current World Divine Seal is surely higher than water, it most likely sank to the seabed over time, but the seabed is not a completely flat area, it has all sorts of crevices and sediments, and rubble and sponges and whatnot.
Identifying a specific shaped object from it precisely is extremely challenging. To describe it, it's like trying to find a small object in a cluttered bedroom, obviously such a small space, you can glance around to see it all, yet you just can't find what you're looking for.
Familiar bedrooms are like this, the unknown and random-filled nature is even more challenging to handle. It's entirely possible that even if I scanned it, I might unintentionally overlook it. Moreover, the ocean's natural system is an exceedingly complex dynamic environment, and it's possible that while searching for the Current World Divine Seal, it could move to a place already searched thoroughly. Such cases leave one without any room for grievance.
Even so, if one is willing to spend the effort, with the ability of Impermanence, finding the target is still just a matter of time.
The worst possibility is that the Current World Divine Seal may not be in the Arctic Circle at all, perhaps dragged to other sea regions by ocean currents, or accidentally ingested by marine life and carried away, or even captured by humans afterward, and no longer in any sea region. In such a case, the search range must expand globally, considering countless dynamic factors beyond imagination. Yet even if this happens, I believe Impermanence could forcibly search it out through a carpet search method, it remains a matter of time.
The Seal Master has about five years of search time, if willing to pay the effort, this "small" Arctic Circle could be thoroughly examined numerous times, expanding globally also covers thoroughly. Thus, I really do not believe I have a chance to find the Current World Divine Seal here. Either the Current World Divine Seal is not here, or it has already been retrieved by the Seal Master.
Judging from Tai Sui's attitude, it should be the former, although he does not know the whereabouts of the Current World Divine Seal and the Seal Master, it seems he can almost determine through near-omniscient power combined with many clues from other aspects that the Current World Divine Seal is not in the hands of the Seal Master.
I currently don't have so much energy to carefully search for the Current World Divine Seal in the Arctic Circle, not to mention globally. Now what I'm most lacking is time. Since finding the Current World Divine Seal cannot be used, it cannot be relied on as a counter against Shan Liangyi. This is actually an issue that I must tackle after defeating Shan Liangyi.
I summoned a large number of "Fireflies", implanted preset instructions to let them search for clues relevant to the Current World Divine Seal in the Arctic Circle on my behalf. Using this method cannot find the Current World Divine Seal, not just reasoning, intuition tells me so too. It's not a matter of high or low possibility, it just isn't possible. Perhaps some unknown element obstructs me or the Seal Master from obtaining the Current World Divine Seal, stubbornly sticking can yield no benefit.
Besides activities in the Arctic Circle, I relayed all my conversations with the Master of Divine Seal to Little Bowl at Luoshan Headquarters. I'm currently in a state of multitasking, using another conjured body for the conversation with Little Bowl. Since it's internal communication, I naturally avoided No. 7 and chose my room for the exchange. Moreover, I set up a barrier to block external snooping.
The barrier was made using the Power of Divine Seal Fragments, and the technique came from Xuanming's experience. The effect is similar to the barrier once used by Divine Light to prevent the Master of Divine Seal's secret peeping, Xuanming truly left me something good. With this, Tai Sui cannot know what Little Bowl and I talked about.
After learning about it, Little Bowl further strengthened the barrier's effect with her Power of Blessing, then seriously listened to my narrative.
The reason I cannot accept handing over all Divine Seal Fragments to the Master of Divine Seal, apart from my own wishes and suspicions towards the Master of Divine Seal, one very important reason is because of Little Bowl.
The Original World follows a worldview where soul power cannot manifest openly. This is not to say there is no soul there, after all, even in such a world, there seems to be the product of planetary natural will, but that is a completely different dimension thing, I do not think such exceptions would become common. At least, it is bound to be a world incredibly strict about the concept of the soul, to the extent that human civilization has not left records of contacting the soul there. Perhaps this was also a special transformation done by ancient civilizations to limit the development of planetary natural will.
Entities like Little Bowl, a Dream Avatar, are very likely to be destroyed upon returning to the Original World. Even after going through great hardships, enabling oneself to continue existing after completing all the missions of the Dream Avatar, if the external environment changes like that, there is nothing to be done.
Of course, if I can push open the third door, perhaps I could think of something... But right now, I cannot achieve it, nor can I be certain future I could achieve it.
"Little Bowl, who do you think the Seal Master might be?" I asked after finishing my narrative.
"Brother Zhuang Cheng, you must already have a suspect in mind if you're asking like that, right?" Little Bowl looked at me carefully, "Are you thinking that the Seal Master could be yourself?"
"That's one possible line of suspicion." I said noncommittally.
The personality profile of the Seal Master drawn by Tai Sui really resembles me too much.
Though someone like me who loves adventure should definitely not be considered scarce to the point of near extinction among humanity, at least within the range of Impermanence, the current candidate that meets this condition seems to be only me. Combined with "the Seal Master even if not Impermanence, definitely has the potential to easily become Impermanence" and "the Fantian event happened five years ago", it's a very reasonable approach to look for Seal Master suspects on the Impermanence list.
It's just that I don't think I would alter my memory and cognition. Because I always require myself to go all out for adventures, even if occasionally feeling my power affected the adventure experience, I would definitely not go to the extent of deliberately sealing my power. That would be overly pretentious. And sealing memory in my view is also a form of self-weakening.
But if my principles before sealing memory were somewhat different, that's another matter.
"And this would also explain why Tai Sui would have such a sincere attitude towards a person like me." I said, "Because perhaps he doesn't hate the student he regards as his own, instead still harbors deep feelings for them, wanting to touch them with his words, hoping for them to turn back, to find their way again."
"... That indeed is a possibility." Little Bowl thought for a moment and then said, "However, besides Brother Zhuang Cheng, actually there is another person... He largely fits the suspect condition for the Seal Master too."
"Who?" I somewhat predicted this.
"Liu Shuying." Little Bowl said.
