CHAPTER 103: JOURNEY TO THE LAB.

At the White house, Janet was given the royal treatment. She took a hot shower, changed into new clothes and was given her own private room which was once used by the deceased first lady. She was given a hot meal and then sat down with Ceasar for a talk in the White house lounge.

"So, what are you?" he asked her. "I know that you are superhuman, but I need to understand your abilities."

Janet thrust her hand out and the water in the glasses which were sitting in the table rose up. As she swept her hand out, the water followed the direction she commanded it to. "I can feel the water," She explained as she continued demonstrating her tricks. "It is like my own heartbeat, like a part of me. I can sense it wherever it is in the ground or around us in the air. I can tell good water from bad one."

"Can you turn the acid rain into normal water?" Ceasar asked her. His eyes were wide, and he was very excited to see her abilities. He was more than sure than she had encountered the mist on Liora ocean, and it was how she had gained her abilities.

If he sent more people into the mist, he would have more superhumans serving him. And when he figured out how the change happened, he wound undergo it as well.

Janet shook her head. "I can only control water, but I can’t change its composition." She lowered her hand, and the water settled back into the glasses.

Ceasar hid his disappointment. Janet’s importance was not as great as he had imagined. He thought they would never run out of fresh water as long as she was around. She was nothing more than an umbrella in the end!

He did not share this Janet and laughed instead. "How amazing! I will count on you to find us all clean or good water from now on. But for now, there is an urgent mission that needs someone of your abilities." Without wasting any more time, Ceaser rose up and gestured that she does the same.

"We have some doctors and important leaders trapped in a laboratory that need to be rescued but we could not get to them because of the acid rain. I am hoping that you will be able to divert the rain and create a safe space for a convoy to reach the lab." He looked at her and led her out of the lounge. "Do you think that you can do that?"

"I think so." Janet replied without hesitation.

Everywhere they passed, people gawked and stared at Janet. Some were weary of her, others admired her. Many wished to be like her.

Ceasar took her to the parking on the compound which was still standing. It was time to test the theory. Of course, he did not plan to do it himself, others had to go first. He chose the three people that were among a small group taking shelter in the indoor parking.

"You three, go out with the superhu..." Ceaser paused upon remembering that to earn Janet’s trust. He had to be more respectful in the way he talked to her or around her. "I mean, you three get into the cars with Miss Janet."

Lugard gestured for soldiers to help those three people into the cars. Each was handed a car key. "Did you not hear the president? Turning a blind side to an executive order is punishable by death automatically." He clicked the weapon into readiness.

More of Ceasar’s men did the same, turning their weapons on the people.

Janet narrowed her eyes at Lugard and turned to Ceasar. "There is no need to point a gun at them." She spoke through pursed teeth.

Immediately, Ceaser signaled at his man to quickly pull back the gun, he did not want Janet to think that they were inhumane after all she was the sentimental type.

"I have told you Mr. President, you will be safe outside under my care. As I made my way here, I protected other people that were trying to reach their homes. It was one to five cars at a time or crowds of ten to twenty-six people.

I am worried because the presidential convoy tends to bigger than that but if it is no more than six cars, I am certain that I will manage to escort you safely." Janet assured him.

To prove this, she had them follow her to a window and she swept her palm out. The rain was diverted with a graceful sweep of her hand and the downpour paused for a moment. "It can hold for at least fifteen minutes, longer if I continue practice. I am going to pause as much rain as I can while we are on the move."

Lugard whistled. He had never seen anything as cool as this.

"Bring out the cars." Ceasar ordered.

"After you sir." Janet said to him.

Ceaser moved to walk besides her. "Miss Janet, you are now the personal bodyguard of the President. We must walk together." He feigned a cough and pointed at Gillian. "You are in charge until I get back."

Gillian saluted, "Yes Sir, Mr. President."

Ceaser and his men entered the cars and drove out among cheers from the spectators. Janet rode atop the lead vehicle, steady like a rock. Rain tried to press downward, but she flung it away aside with easy sweeps of her palm. She did not just take care of the rain above; Janet also redirected the water in or on the ground.

The convoy was moving at an average speed to allow her to do this. Two knocks on the roof of the vehicle meant slow down and one meant speed up.

The spectators gasped. Never had they seen such a thing. Their new president was right about one thing, superhuman’s would help rebuild the new world.

The convoy drove through the open entrance where the gates once lay but now melted into history. Ceaser was seated in the bullet proof presidential car. He was tapping his foot nervously, worried that in case something went wrong. Acid rain was no joke; it could eat through his bones at any minute.

But, with Janet taking lead, the journey proved smooth. They passed through a collapsed bridge and the cars slid but held on. They were slightly corroded but determined to continue the journey.

Three hours in, someone asked Lugard. "How long do you think she can keep this up?"

Lugard shook his head. He did not know how long she would be able to keep it up because they had not tested her strength or ability. The president had been too eager to get to the lab.

Janet tapped the roof twice and Lugard slowed down while another soldier communicated through a walkie-talkie, telling the vehicles behind to slow down.

They had come across a blockage in the road, a small mountain of metal and bone, bubbling in a small ditch of acid rain.

"Shit! How many people died here?" Lugard muttered.

Janet knocked on the vehicle three times, telling them to stop and when they did, she stood up, taking a stance like, she was about to engage in combat.
