Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.
Chapter 123: In another world.
CHAPTER 123: IN ANOTHER WORLD.
The day specified by the system as the best time to travel to another world arrived. The notification came just a few minutes short of midnight and Sunshine vanished into the space.
[Dimension rift detected in the space.
A door to another world available.
Time limit: 1hour
Host are you interested?]
Of course she was interested. She had been preparing for this trip as best as she could. The vehicles had parked near an empty orphanage whose roof had been destroyed completely by the acid rain.
She made everyone blow bubbles so they were shielded from acid rain and attacks from any humans, superhumans or beasts. Some soldiers were still keeping watch, sitting on top of vehicles while others slept off inside the cars.
Sunshine had already told Nimo that she would not be available for a while so they were on their own for now. So, she was ready to take the journey.
In her mind, she was picturing a highly developed world that was more advanced than earth. Something out of all those sci-fi fictional movies Nimo loved as a teenager. Her hands were dancing nervously and her heart was pounding.
This was crazy!!! None the less, she was going to go anyway. Maybe she would find an opportunity to acquire shelter in another world and move there if earth did not work out.
"I am interested." She said. "Can you tell me a little about where I am heading?"
[World: Veldek.
Classification: Resource rich world
Estimated danger: Moderate]
A "resource rich world" meant opportunity__an opportunity was the one thing that she could not afford to ignore.
"Let’s go." She said boldly.
She stepped into the tearing in the space and a timer in the space.
59:57
She felt as if she was flying through air one moment and in the next she was standing elsewhere. It was bright as day where she landed.
The air on the other side was different, fresh and sweet with no acidic bite of the apocalyptic world. It was truly enviable.
There was just one problem: no buildings!! She had landed in what looked like a forest that was endless. There was green in every direction as far as her eyes could see. It was so green that she had a feeling it was what the Garden of Eden should have been,
She stood under the shadow of towering trees with wide translucent leaves. Their beauty was breathtaking!! In a distance, she could see a canopy arched ahead in vast layers of green, thicker than the beard of a wise wizard in a fictional novel.
Her eyes brushed over vines that twisted around trees like coiled serpents, dotted with blossoms that pulsed faintly as though breathing.
[Scanning....01%....14%.....56%....79%....100%....complete.
Host, welcome to planet Veldek.]
"Thanks I guess, but why the forest and not a city where I can tour and buy useful supplies?" Sunshine pushed her lips to one side.
[Host, there is a lot that you can get inside this forest that can benefit you. Edible flora just 10 meters away, blue veiled orchids that are good for hydration, spindle root tubers that are high in starch, ripe green heart tomatoes that are delicious and rich anti oxidants.]
Her gaze caught a cluster of the green heart tomatoes that the system was showing on a virtual screen. The shape she had not seen before but the color was not strange, there were green tomatoes in her world too. However green tomatoes on earth were considered raw, not ripe.
Curious, she plucked one, turning it in her palm before biting into it.
The taste hit instantly. It was sweet, rich, almost nostalgic. And then her memory clicked, she had used canned tomato paste that carried this taste this. In her previous life during the apocalypse, tomatoes had become rare.
Golden Foods company which rose in the apocalypse sold canned tomato paste made from a new variant grown in one of their green houses in Cross town.
"That son of a bitch." She shook her head and laughed. It was Cassius!! He was the man mysterious young CEO of Golden Foods. All of the people that represented Golden Foods were women and many of them were superhuman. That is why the rumor was rampant that the CEO was a woman.
"It looks like Cassius’s harem was bigger than I thought." She threw her head back and laughed.
Golden Foods had started in this forest. Cassius had been here, just like she was. And he watched her pay money to buy Golden Foods products with money that she earned by hunting for mutated animals.
"That sick son of a bitch!!!" She groaned. He would even eat what she bought!!
When she run into him again, she would make him a permanent fool. Sunshine put her emotions aside and continued forward, letting the system commentary guide her.
Whatever it identified as edible or medicinal, she tossed into the system space.
[Warning: Blood petal blossoms which are highly toxic. They cause paralysis within 20 seconds after contact.]
All she could do was admire the beautiful flowers from a far for a moment and then walk forward.
[Medicinal herb identified: Croast leaf. Potent anti inflammatory. Useful to treat burns, deep cuts, lacerations, and many more.]
That made her pause, Philip Harg was staying awake for up to six hours a day now which was good but his wounds were healing slowly. The skin around them was still angry and swollen. Private Kerri had mentioned that nothing seemed to bring the inflammation down. Croast leaf might help.
Sunshine knelt, plucked several leaves and tossed them in the space.
The forest was alive with sound of the rustle of leaves whose rest was disturbed by the wind. The faint clicking of unseen insects that came from trees or in the ground, and distant trickle of water. She moved carefully with ease in her bones and a smile on her face.
But then...a change.
A slow silence crept in, swallowing the natural rhythm and the air felt heavier.
Sunshine straightened, scanning her surroundings. That was when she saw them, two pinpricks of red in the shadows between the trees.
The shape stepped forward, the light caught a massive frame wrapped in coarse, mottled fur.
A five legged feline looking like creature, eyes like vanished oak. It watched her for a while and she remained as still as possible.
When she took a step back, it bared its fangs at her in a low guttural growl. It huffed and moved its feet, claws tearing at the damp earth.
She could see that desire to charge in its eyes. It was a hunter and it wanted to hunt her.
"System now is a good time to return to my world"
The timer in her vision ticked down to 37:13
[Host, I advise that you either fight or run because I cannot evacuate you currently.]
"I am fucked!" Sunshine slid her hammer from it’s strap. Her breath turned into mist and she readied herself to collide with the ugly creature.
"Come on you bastard, let us get this over with." She locked eyes with it.
Like it understood her perfectly, it lunged.
