Ascension of the Dark Seraph
Chapter 412: Under the Rain (2)
CHAPTER 412: UNDER THE RAIN (2)
Both Hybrids shattered mid-air.
Lucivar used the Radiant Burst spell, the original spell for Angel Hybrids, which were now empowered to the point of one-shotting a Chrysalis-rank Hybrid. No need for him to use—a single God strand. He had already grown to the point that his ether alone could generate that much power.
Knowing that he beat Master Tobias, a stronger Hybrid, Leandra wasn’t surprised.
If he wanted someone dead, she knew there was no chance of escaping for that person.
Not unless they were also another avatar.
But in the blurry haze and the wetness under the pouring rain, Leandra’s gaze was fixated on Lucivar.
She could barely follow his movement.
It was hard for her to keep up, but when he slowed down to make a turn, she saw it.
Lucivar’s face... something was different about it.
’He’s not elated.... He’s not happy?’ Leandra thought as dread spread across her chest like a thickening foam, suffocating her lungs and making it hard for her to breathe. ’Every single time he fought a winning battle, he always had a smile on his face. Like killing is what he meant to be doing. But now—he’s not smiling anymore... Why?’
That question stuck inside Leandra’s mind.
It was very unlike Lucivar to wear such a straight face when he was spilling blood.
Just then, Leandra’s breath was caught in her throat.
"I’ve been living in a lie, and that’s... not something I can swallow easily."
Lucivar’s voice rang inside Leandra’s mind as she recalled what he confessed last night.
One that made her heart clench involuntarily.
Meanwhile, Lucivar continued, moving even faster than he was earlier.
He went straight to the Hybrids, who were already starting the engine of their car, intending to run away before Lucivar got to them. Considering that the car was not theirs, but belonged to the faction they worked for, it was enchanted with protection properties.
It would still be safer for them to be inside than to rely on their Hybrid strength.
But they underestimated Lucivar’s strength.
Boom!
Lucivar struck the wet ground, firing ether into the soil—as it shot forward, creating a straight mound that exploded upon reaching the car, right underneath it. Like a car made of paper, it was hurled upward; the Hybrids inside held on for dear life.
Before striking, time slowed down as Lucivar turned to the right.
Another Hybrid, a Vampire Hybrid, twisted in panic and began to melt into blood.
She was desperate to seep into the ground and flee the situation.
Just as her head melted into blood, a blade of blade steel pierced through her thigh—halting the blood-transformation midstream. The wound was not merely pain but torment, an agony so profound it seemed to strip the scream from her throat before it could form.
She held her thigh with both hands and whimpered as she realized she was pinned down.
Pulling out the blade was her only way of escaping, but she had neither the stomach nor the strength to grab the black sword and pull it out of her thigh. All she mustered was the loudest scream her vocal cords could create.
Lucivar turned to face the falling car again and leaped.
He charged the car and shattered its body from below, catching the three Hybrids off guard.
All of them watched in horror as an enchanted car that could endure multiple powerful tank shells with ease shattered like it was made of glass. And from within, the Hybrids grasped air to catch themselves, but it was already too late.
Their eyes bore witness to the majestic spectacle that erupted from the grandest peak of an avatar’s power.
A pair of thick, feathered wings burst from Lucivar’s back in a splash of blood—and before their very eyes, these feathers that make up the wings sharpened into gleaming blades. All three Hybrids saw a blur before the end claimed them.
Lucivar spun his body and used his wings to cleave the three Hybris.
One got completely sliced in half, while the other got struck on their necks and lost their heads.
In five seconds, the three Hybrids were hurled upward in a panic and landed on the ground as corpses.
Every single Hybrid that was guarding the warehouse died in under a minute.
It all felt unreal to Leandra, as if she were caught in a fever dream because of the rain.
Each moment unfolded too quickly for her mind to process, yet far too vividly for her to ever forget.
Lucivar landed back on the ground with a silent tap—around him were blood and flesh of the Hybrids that were still breathing a minute ago. His clothes were already bloodied, stains that even the rain could erase with its droplets.
"Geerughk!!"
"Heerghk!!"
Hearing this painful grunt, Lucivar turned to the side, remembering the last Hybrid.
She was the strongest, a Vampire Hybrid, but weak before Lucivar, nevertheless.
Her body shivered under the relentless coldness from death’s approach and also the pouring rain, but her survival instincts are still prevalent in her. Desperately, she tried crawling away. She can only use one hand as there was a sword stabbing her thigh.
Despite pulling with all her might to head to the fence, she was moving at a snail’s pace.
Compared to Lucivar’s steady steps as he approached, she was three times slower.
"HELP!" the Hybrid grabbed the fence with both hands and shouted outside. "SOMEBODY HELP!!"
She put everything into that scream.
But the downpour drowned her voice completely.
No matter how hard she screamed, the downpour reduced it to a mere whisper or a very distant scream.
Her scream faltered when she felt hands grasping her head and chin.
Realizing that Lucivar was already on her, the Hybrid turned to look at him, who was squatting behind her with a trembling body. She reached her trembling hands to Lucivar’s hands, tears streaming down her face.
She wanted to plead, but Lucivar gave her no chance.
"Don’t worry, you won’t feel a thing.
Crack!
In a sudden burst of strength, Lucivar snapped her neck, killing her on the spot.
From behind, Leandra watched silently.
She was standing like a statue with an umbrella in hand, watching the unfolding scene.
Upon killing the last Hybrid, Lucivar took out the black blade and placed it back to where it came from, stashing it away. Then, he turned around and raised his hand, utilizing the Greedy Grasp ability to turn all of the corpses into energy.
Leandra watched as the blood and corpses turned translucent and then broken down into energy.
For one second, the outside of the warehouse was a depiction of blood and gore, but in the next second, it looked normal, as if there weren’t lives that were lost here today. Lucivar cleaned it up so flawlessly that not a trace of blood was left behind.
Even if someone were to come right now, they wouldn’t suspect a thing.
Not only the mangled flesh and blood, but the vehicles these Hybrids came here with also evaporated.
All were turned into God strands and stored inside Lucivar’s Supernatural Ego.
Once he was done, he walked back to Leandra and stood a few steps away from her.
"Why... Why did you do that?" She asked, voice barely audible under the relentless downpour. Both her eyes were looking at Lucivar questioningly—demanding an answer. She was too stunned to even think of the reason why. "Do you need to kill them?"
"To silence them," Lucivar answered. "So, yes... I do need to kill them."
"Silence them? For what? Besides, I failed to imagine they would say anything."
"And why is that?"
"Aren’t they from the Green Tempest Clan? The twins and their father wouldn’t allow them to speak."
Upon hearing this, Lucivar chuckled lightly.
Even after all that happened to them, Leandra’s way of thinking was still behind.
And in that moment, Leandra saw something had changed in Lucivar’s eyes.
Something changed in the way he looked at Leandra.
Leandra didn’t know what it was, but she could feel it; the way Lucivar looked at her changed.
Upon exhaling deeply from his nose, Lucivar then finally opened his mouth again, "Even though these Hybrids aren’t connected directly to what we did that night, to Master Tobias, they saw Bob’s condition, and also the fact that someone killed him. It wouldn’t take long before someone realized Master Tobias was the one who killed him."
"If the Hybrid Association knew that... one phone call to the academy and we’ll be exposed. Master Tobias was the one who signed as our guardians, and that’s our biggest weakness." He added, clearly explaining the situation to make Leandra understand.
Most of the time, Lucivar rarely explained what was inside his mind.
At least not until the matters had been settled.
But this time, he took the time to explain it as clearly as possible to Leandra.
Leandra listened to this, and her brows dipped into a frown.
"Aren’t you supposed to be worrying about the guests that survived that night? There are some who got away before you even ascend," She said, recalling that Cassian was probably still alive. "If you’re really worried about being caught, then shouldn’t you start with them?"
Hearing this, Lucivar tilted his head, finding Leandra to be unbelievable.
She was knocked out for a couple of days, and dared to speak to him like that?
"All of them are dead, Leandra," Lucivar said firmly. "I asked Julian for help, and through his immense connections, he’s made it difficult for the detectives to investigate us. But I never intend to leave it all to him. I spent the first few days after that night hunting down every last one of them. They are gone now—every single one. Even Cassian, a member of the Supreme House."
He said that as if he were able to read Leandra’s mind.
It was quite uncanny, making Leandra feel uncomfortable.
Just then, sirens could be heard approaching from the distance.
Lucivar turned to the corner of the street and saw a few vehicles approaching; the emergency services that he had called earlier. "Go on, tell Ravenna and Nerissa that time is up," He said, walking towards where the vehicles gathered.
A few steps past Leandra, he stopped.
"Oh, and the car earlier," His voice seeped through the downpour. "It’s the person helping me find all the guests from that night. And now... I got the location of the last one. After this, we’re in the clear, so I’ll get it done as soon as possible."
Hearing this, Leandra swallowed harshly and headed for the warehouse.
Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts.
’Am I overthinking things?’ She thought, biting her lower lip as she entered the warehouse.
In the following moment, the people from the emergency services worked fast.
Like robots, they picked up Bob’s corpse and brought him away.
Just as they were about to leave, taking one last look at the chamber where Bob died, Ravenna halted.
She drew a folded slip of paper from her pocket and held it up for the others to see.
"I found this tucked in Bob’s back pocket..."
