Chapter 237: Savage Ascent (17) – The Feral Rebirth (1)

A/N:

This is a little author note to explain a couple of things(Not little in truth it’s pretty long but I am talking of some rather interesting/Important things so I would appreciate it if you could stay up to the end without skipping, Thanks!)

I think you saw it but since a couple of chapters ago(237 for for Patreon, so for those on other sites that would read this message latter, I would be talking of around chapter 185 or something) I replaced the message at the end of the chapter that promoted the Patreon by something else.

The message that promoted Patreon was something that I didn’t put much thought behind, it was simply something that I created when I created Patreon but some times ago I don’t remember when I read it(Usually I skip it, like a lot of people probably do)

But at that time I realized that this end of chapter message was actually pretty bad as it only talked of Patreon without helping the story grow(What do I mean by helping the story grow?)

It would be an end of chapter message that doesn't just promote the Patreon but also try to have the readers remember to place a follow/review and these kinds of things if they liked the chapter/the story.

I created something like that not to be spammy or something but to help the story grow, a little like how youtuber alway say “Don’t forget to subscribe and put a like”

Which is something that automatically make you remember to subscribe and put a like, of course this is only the case if you liked the video or else it would be just background noise you skip

In the case of a chapter you like or the story which I hope you like you probably would have placed a ‘like’ if you thought about it but you didn’t as generally as readers we don’t think about things like that(I totally understand I am myself someone that often read novels)

Consequently, the goal of these end of chapter message is to make you remember to put a ‘like’ if we keep the youtube video analogy.

I hope I was clear, the goal is not to be spammy but simply to help the story grow, I hope that it won’t annoy you.

This was the first part of this rather long author note but I have something else to talk about and I believe that it would be a pretty good idea.

You see recently I created a message at the end of chapter for Patreon which would thank those that support me but after copy pasting like two, three times I realized that I disliked doing a copy pasted message for Patreons that already financially supported me so at that time I thought of simply not putting this message on Patreon but at the place I had what I think would be a better idea.

At the place of putting a ‘spam message’ I would write an author note which would be related to the chapters at the moment of the writing and would be 100% honest, it could something I had difficulty working on, something on the chapter which is happening and is interessing, mini teaser or thing like that.

Honestly, I think this idea would be far better than just spamming a ‘cold’ message, so I would like your opinion on what you think of that but except if you really don’t like that, I think I will begin to do this personalized author note.

This would be true to Patreon and I think also on other platforms but only starting from 237 as I wouldn’t be able to get a real Author Note on previous chapters as I simply wouldn’t remember even for 237 it’s been a couple of days since i wrote it so I don’t know how it would come out, especially since this is the first time I will write something like that.

Anyways I won't continue to ramble any longer, I hope you will like the chapter.

End of Author Note(Thanks for those that took the time to read it)

———

And it didn’t stop there. Those silent limits bled into other parts of him, how he killed, how he trained, how he moved, and even if they didn’t stop him outright, they shaped what he did, quietly holding him back without him knowing.

His fighting style was shaped by that. It was efficient, violent, and ruthless, but still human, still missing something, still refusing to cross a line that he never consciously drew.

And on that point, he had been inferior to the small wolf, who didn’t hesitate, who didn’t stop, who gave everything it had, including its life, without thinking whether something was too far or too much. That was before. But now…

CRACK!!!

In his mind, an extremely loud cracking sound resounded as he felt himself grow lighter. The chains broke entirely, leaving his mindset completely free and unburdened.

‘Ferocity… it isn’t just a mindset, it’s a path, a technique…’

And then—

Mikael opened his eyes and the world trembled.

From the perspective of the demonic beasts: one moment, the small human seemed about to die, like a candle flickering in a fierce storm, seconds away from being extinguished. Then, in the very next instant, he closed his eyes… and when he reopened them, his aura had undergone an earth-shaking change, becoming something primal, different, feral.

The kind of aura not associated with prey—but with an apex predator. And they felt it.

Flinch.

Momentarily, the Zephyr Wolf that had launched the wind blade and the Titanhide Rhino, whose immense limb was closing in on Mikael, both flinched.

BOOM!

Their respective attacks missed their target, the small human, and instead collided with the ground, one slicing it open, the other creating a large crater.

A large cloud of dust was projected outward, veiling the surroundings and isolating Mikael from the demonic beasts' view. But what remained unmistakable was his aura, which had multiplied since moments earlier. Not only was it several times stronger, but the aura of extreme ferocity was undeniable.

Step. Step. Step.

In the silence of the scene, Mikael’s steps resounded clearly in the ears of the demonic beasts.

“So this is ‘Stage 1’ at max potency…what power!” Mikael’s voice rang out clearly, and then—

A strong gust of wind exploded outward, dispersing the cloud of dust. Under the gazes of the Zephyr Wolves and the Titanhide Rhino, it revealed what lay behind—which was… nothing. Mikael wasn’t there anymore!

Just as they realized this, one of the Mid-Stage Zephyr Wolves suddenly felt something appear behind it. Along with that came an overwhelming sensation of danger—the kind that could take its life.

Instinctively, it jumped forward while twisting its body, trying to move out of the attack’s path, but even then, the sensation of danger didn’t diminish—on the contrary, it grew. Feeling this, the battle-hardened instincts of the demonic beast kicked in, and it once again twisted its frame, forcing its head toward the origin of the threat.

What entered its field of view was the small human, bloodied and seemingly at death’s door, yet his aura was anything but fragile. He radiated a power even greater than when he’d been at 100%, and the wolf had neither the time nor the capacity to understand why the prey had become this terrifying.

It could only hurl a rapidly formed, and thus weakened, wind blade toward the small human it sensed lethal danger from.

The Wind Qi blade cut through the air and, in an instant, reached the human, seemingly about to cleave him in two, but what met the green Qi wasn’t Mikael’s body, but an obsidian-black longsword with a bloody edge and covered in hairline cracks. Swirling around it was a silver energy, which also surged forward to meet the incoming wind blade.

The Lunar Qi of Mikael and the Wind Qi of the Zephyr Wolf collided in midair. For an instant, the two attacks were in a deadlock, seemingly of equal power.

But this was only an illusion, one that shattered an instant later, when Mikael’s Celestial Moon’s Embrace tore through the wind blade with an ease that made the idea of equal power seem laughable.

His Lunar Qi-powered attack surged forward and reached the Zephyr Wolf in a heartbeat. It could only coat its body in Wind Qi as a last-ditch defense, but under the force of Mikael’s strike, that protection was shredded on contact.

Howl.

The Mid-stage Zephyr Wolf could only let out a fearful howl before it was enveloped by the swarm of Lunar Qi. Moments later, when the brilliance disappeared, what was revealed was the shredded carcass of the Zephyr Wolf, having been instantly killed!

What happened may look like it took a long time, but in truth it only lasted a short second. For high-level fights like these, their speed was so extreme that life and death could often be determined in short instants.

Because of that, the other demonic beasts didn’t have time to respond. They could only turn toward where they heard the fearful howl, only to see the shredded carcass of the Mid-stage Zephyr Wolf, Mikael standing right beside it, head lowered, bangs of his hair covering his eyes as he looked toward the ground.

Mikael ignored the gazes on him as he clenched his fist, feeling the power coursing through him. ‘This power…it’s truly amazing, almost addictive. I feel almost omnipotent. My power, compared to when I was in perfect condition, has multiplied!’

‘And this is only the First Stage of the Ferocity-based Cultivation Technique I created during my partial enlightenment. If I go beyond the “transforming injury into power” stage and trigger the next level… my power could once again multiply.’

Mikael took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down and ignore the amazing sensation of power. His finger traced down Sangrelia’s blade as he murmured, his tone full of warmth, “Thank you. Truly, for your actions and your determination. But no need to injure yourself further… I’ll take care of it!”

Hummm. Hummm.

She vibrated twice, loudly signaling her strong disapproval.

Mikael gave the sword in his hand a confident smile. “Believe in me.” He didn’t say anything else, but it seemed to be enough for Sangrelia, as after a short silence, she vibrated once.

Vrmmm.

After her acceptance vibration, her edge dulled. The extreme durability and sharpness that had radiated from her blade dimmed slightly, and the hairline cracks that had been spreading finally halted. Her condition hadn’t improved—the cracks remained—but at least it no longer worsened.

Satisfied, Mikael sheathed her on his back before looking up, his emerald gaze meeting the eyes of the nearby demonic beasts. He saw the wariness and anger in the eyes of the Zephyr Wolves, growling at him for the death of one of their own. As for the Titanhide Rhino, it was eyeing Mikael, its previous disregard for the ‘small creature’ gone and replaced by rare seriousness.

Crack.

Mikael tilted his neck slightly, letting it crack with a loud snap that echoed across the devastated battlefield. “Sorry I made you wait,” he declared, and the moment the words left his lips, his aura climbed a notch higher, drawing even more wariness from the surrounding beasts.

The next moment, he began to march forward slowly. With each step, his aura climbed higher and higher—until, at its peak, he murmured something under his breath.

“Blood Ignition.”

For a moment, the world held its breath, and then—

BOOOM!!!!

A bloody red aura violently exploded outward with Mikael as the center. The ground trembled, beginning to crack and fracture under this aura's power as Mikael’s previously fair white skin took a reddish hue. Everywhere on his body there seemed to be a red aura, similar to what it would look like if he activated his aura cloak, but in a bloody red color.

But while this looked like his aura cloak, it was nothing like it. In truth, it had nothing to do with the aura of the Dirarnia world. It was ‘simply’ a sign of his overwhelming vitality that was currently ignited!

“Ahhh”

Mikael exhaled. From his mouth, a reddish vapor was exhaled. ‘This hurt like hell and my already dreadful condition will deteriorate but…’

His eyes, burning with an unparalleled ferocity, scanned the surrounding demonic beasts—each of which had instinctively taken a step back. ‘...it’s enough.’

Flash.

A burst of raw physical strength propelled Mikael forward at incomprehensible speed. In the blink of an eye, he stood before the last ‘normal’ Mid-stage Zephyr Wolf—and without giving it time to react, he threw a punch.

The punch looked deceptively simple in appearance, but to the Zephyr Wolf targeted by it, it was death incarnate. Fortunately for it, unlike the earlier Mid-stage wolf, this one wasn’t caught off guard—so even as Mikael’s power had surged, it successfully retreated and shielded itself with its Wind Qi.

Crack.

Because of that, once Mikael’s punch landed on the demonic beast, it wasn’t instantly killed but was ‘simply’ sent flying with a broken rib…

Mikael wanted to follow through and take it down, but a barrage of wind blades sent by the Alpha Zephyr Wolf were approaching directly in his path toward the Mid-stage ones. In a way that, if he continued and tried to finish the Mid-stage wolf, he would at best be grievously injured or at worst die!

Previously this would have been the point where he took a step back after all getting grievously wounded or even killed just to take down one enemy amidst multiple wasn’t worth it…or was it?

A maniac grin appeared on Mikael visage, combined with the reddish aura he emanated and the numerous wounds covering him, making blood flow and covering his body in a second ‘bloody aura’ he truly looked like an asura that crawled his way from hell.

With a burst of raw physical strength, Mikael barreled forward, seemingly unaware of the wind blades poised to slice him apart. But just as they were about to land, he twisted his body at an impossible angle.

Squelch.

He avoided the worst of the damage, but he didn’t escape unscathed. A large, bone-deep gash tore across his chest, further worsening his condition—yet Mikael didn’t slow down, not even a little.

He pushed past the barrage of wind blades and reached the still-flying Mid-stage Zephyr Wolf, whose fearful eyes were locked onto him. Without hesitation, he launched another punch, this time straight at the injured wolf’s head, which burst like a watermelon.

The ferocious cultivator that Mikael had become didn’t waste a second. The moment the wolf died, he spun on his heels, ready to strike at the remaining Zephyr Wolves, seizing the window while the Titanhide Rhino hesitated, unsure whether to attack.

But then—

Mikael stumbled for a moment before catching himself.

‘Fuck, my body’s really at its limits,’ he realized—but instead of panicking, he calmly analyzed the situation.

After all, while a stumble may look like nothing in everyday life, in a fight like the one Mikael was having, it was a clear sign that his injuries were catching up with him, and more importantly, it was a sign of weakness.

Weakness that the Zephyr Wolves, as predators, immediately caught on, instantly their fear largely diminished, and they began to growl at him while circling him.

Mikael raised his foot to take a step forward, to show confidence and not show weakness, as he knew that against apex predators, any sign of weakness could be a fatal mistake, but sadly fate decided to not let his plan work smoothly as the next moment he felt a burning pain in his lung, pushing him to instinctively double over and violently cough.

The next moment, as he raised his hand, he saw it covered in blood, more than before, he meant, as it wasn’t all clean earlier.

Instantly, his expression darkened doubly, one part because it was an undeniable sign that his body was truly reaching his limit and that he needed to do something about it now! And the other because this second sign of weakness didn’t go unseen, and the Zephyr Wolf pack lunged forward with the Alpha leading them.

A/N:

First time writing this kind of Author Note so I don’t know how it will came out especially considering that I did this just before sleeping but anyways.

In this chapter we saw Mikael finally stop being a punching bag, he got angry and activated his shonen power up—wrong genre, I know— but the result is pretty similar as the tide began to turn and Mikae began to hit back and not love tap that’s for sure.

At the same time Mikael is kind in a shitty condition and with him using something called “Blood Ignition” it can only go for the better…

This is the end of the first A/N, feedback would be appreciated because I really don’t have a single clue of if I did it right or maybe I should have written it differently or maybe have talked about something else, maybe how I wrote the scene or something? Don’t know, I’ve gone with what I thought would be a good idea so yeah…
