Back to 1984: Let's Work Hard Together to Raise The Kids!
Chapter 163: The Eccentric Lin Zhi Family
CHAPTER 163: CHAPTER 163: THE ECCENTRIC LIN ZHI FAMILY
The two exchanged a glance, and Du Juanhua said, "Zhang Hong and I have decided to take some part-time jobs to earn some living expenses, so we’re not going back."
Lin Qin asked with concern, "Have you found one?"
Both nodded together, smiling, "We’re members of E Society, we have firsthand information on part-time jobs, so no worries about not finding a place."
Everyone laughed, agreeing to have a gathering meal when they return to school for National Day, then they went their separate ways.
On the way back, Chen Wenjun and Lin Yi each rode a tricycle, Lin Yi’s tricycle carrying Huang Yuezhen and Xu Jian, Xu Kang, while Chen Wenjun carried Lin Qin and three kids.
Little Chen Ruiming couldn’t hold on any longer and fell into a deep sleep in Lin Qin’s arms.
Ping’an and Yaya were still full of energy, continually discussing the pipa sword dance they just saw.
"Mom, can I learn the pipa? That lady just played so beautifully!" Yaya said with admiration.
Lin Qin chuckled, "If you can afford it, of course, you can learn, Mom supports you!"
Ping’an’s face turned red with regret, "If only I could wield a sword like that lady just did!"
This sentiment was deeply echoed by Xu Jian and Xu Kang, and the three began discussing the sword dance they just saw.
Lin Qin patted Ping’an’s head with some heartache, thinking if he were healthy, he would definitely be able to learn. Now, though he exercises regularly, after several years of effort, it’s only improved his left limb movement to the point it doesn’t look so obvious.
Lin Qin and Chen Wenjun’s goal is for Ping’an to be able to move like a normal person in the future, and that’s difficult enough. Letting Ping’an learn sword dance is something they can’t even imagine.
But Xu Jian and Xu Kang could give it a try, although these matters need Lin Ying and her husband’s consent; they can’t make all the decisions themselves.
Everyone chatted while slowly driving the tricycles, taking about half an hour to return to Nanyu.
Since there’s no school tomorrow, Lin Qin and the kids let loose, and after returning home, they specially cooked a late-night snack, eating until half-full before going to sleep.
The next day, the kids in special classes still had to go to training.
The youngest, Chen Ruiming, didn’t need to go to daycare, so Lin Qin took him to play in the gym, picked vegetables in the field, picked fruits on the slope, and collected chicken and duck eggs.
Mother and son played all morning, incidentally preparing a sumptuous lunch.
Just then, Huang Yuzhen and Lin Qingxiang arrived.
Lin Qin hurriedly invited them in and asked them to join them for lunch.
The couple repeatedly declined, "No need to eat, we came today to notify you to come to the village for the wedding feast on the 12th."
Lin Qin’s eyes lit up, "Oh! Is the house finished?"
Huang Yuzhen nodded excitedly, "We really have you to thank for this. We originally planned to build them two brick houses, but after your suggestion, thinking if they have children in the future, we would have to build again, too troublesome.
We thought it over and decided to bite the bullet and borrow money to build a building. Half an acre for a two-story building, five rooms in total, even if they have four kids, there will be a room for each.
But we are in quite a bit of debt after building the house. Xiao Hong insisted on helping us repay it together, but we didn’t let her. We borrowed a bit more to get the inside of the house whitewashed, and installed stair railings.
We let them handle the furniture themselves.
After Xiao Hong’s family saw it, they sent over all the beds, cabinets, living room tables, and chairs a few days ago, filling every room.
My husband was so happy he said let’s get them married ASAP, having such a good daughter-in-law will set our hearts at ease sooner."
Lin Qin chuckled, fully understanding Lin Qingxiang and his wife’s concerns.
"Great! Wenjun and I will give them a big red envelope when the time comes!"
As soon as Lin Qingxiang and his wife left, Lin Yi returned with the kids.
During lunch, Lin Qin shared the news.
Lin Yi said, "They should marry sooner, who knows what nonsense those troublemakers might stir up!"
Lin Qin raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Lin Yi then recounted the recent events with a stern face, "Your cousin Jianqiang got married but had nothing, even their new house is rented from us. The couple agreed to work hard together to build a house, but before they started, your Uncle Qingxiang’s house was already up, and it’s a two-story building.
Your second uncle and aunt are unhappy, gossiping around the village, saying the girl they married was from the mountains to keep the betrothal gifts, calling them heartless, and other nonsense, spreading all over.
Yuzhen is not one to be bullied either, they fought with your second aunt, causing quite a scene. Even the village head and party secretary got involved, and I heard people from the police station even came.
The two families are basically sworn enemies now. Jianqiang’s wife feels humiliated and continually makes trouble, and the house plans were canceled. Meanwhile, that troublemaker Jianguo, somehow got wind that Xiao Hong’s street stall was making money and wanted to poach it.
Shaoyun taught him a harsh lesson, causing another confrontation between the families. If you ask me, your second uncle and aunt really spoiled their kids.
Given this, your uncle and aunt became worried, wanting to bring their daughter-in-law home quickly to put their minds at ease."
Lin Qin was fuming, almost banging the chopsticks, "Shameless old folks, unafraid of karma! And Jianguo, doing such despicable things, is he tired of living?"
Lin Shaojun, who can’t stand injustice, used to have a worse temper. Had it been before, Lin Jianguo would likely have ended up in the hospital.
Lin Yi shook his head, "We’re lucky not to live in the village, otherwise the village head and secretary would be seeking our help."
Lin Qin cursed a few more times, then seeing her younger son was sleepy, took the child upstairs for a nap.
A few days later, Gao Lei came back from Guangdong Province, bringing with him an imported camera. He took pictures everywhere he went, eager for everyone to know about his camera worth tens of thousands.
When he visited Nanyu as a guest, seeing a few kids staring at his camera, his vanity was greatly satisfied. With a grand gesture, he took several more photos of Lin Qin and the kids.
Soon, it was the last day of the National Day short holiday.
Lin Qin remembered the agreement with her roommates and discussed with Chen Wenjun, "I plan to bring some ingredients to school this evening, and then find a restaurant outside the school to help process them. We’d have dinner directly at the school, plus bring thick quilts. Now that it’s cold, a thick quilt is necessary for a nap.
I’ll sleep at the school tonight and return tomorrow night."
Chen Wenjun agreed without a second thought, "I’ll ask Dad to drive you over in a tricycle in a while. The kids can sleep with their aunt tonight, they’re used to it and won’t fuss."
He’s getting up at night to go to South Port to wholesale seafood, and it’s not safe for the kids to sleep alone, so they’re usually sent to Huang Yuezhen’s house.
Lin Qin nodded in agreement, and told Huang Yuezhen about it when she returned.
Then she went to the vegetable field to pick some vegetables and went to the slope to pick fruits.
Now, pomelos, oranges, and green jujubes are bearing fruit, ready to be picked.
