Back to the 1970s: Building My Fortune Through Time Trading
Chapter 252: The Leader’s Daughter
CHAPTER 252: CHAPTER 252: THE LEADER’S DAUGHTER
Manager Wang has been tormented by this issue lately, and it just crossed his mind that Su Xiaoxiao is full of quirky ideas. Might as well treat a dead horse as if it were alive and ask her for advice.
After all, whether it works or not, it’s just a matter of words, no loss in trying.
Since Manager Wang valued her so highly, Su Xiaoxiao couldn’t keep things to herself.
After thinking for a bit, she offered her opinion: "We can adopt a strategy of small profits and quick returns."
Manager Wang sighed, "We’ve tried lowering prices already, and it didn’t work out very well. Unless we bring the prices way down, there won’t be much profit left."
"It’s not about lowering the prices; it’s about raising them."
"What?"
Manager Wang was a bit confused. If lowering the prices didn’t help, wouldn’t raising them make it worse? Customers aren’t fools.
Was Comrade Su joking with him?
"Manager Wang, don’t worry just yet. Listen to my entire plan before deciding."
"We can do this. For instance, if originally something was one dollar with a fifty-cent profit, we can raise its price to one dollar and fifty cents. Now, its profit is one dollar. On this basis, we can host a promotion with a lottery, setting a 60% chance of winning, meaning for every ten products sold, six would be free."
Upon hearing this, Manager Wang was dumbfounded: "Comrade Su, are you kidding me? Selling ten products and giving away six for free? Won’t we incur losses?"
"Manager Wang, calculate again. Selling ten products at the cost of five dollars means selling four products at six dollars, still making a dollar."
Upon hearing this, Manager Wang immediately understood. Selling four for six dollars still yields a profit of one dollar.
Although the profit is small, it is indeed the best way to clear inventory.
Especially for products nearing expiration; they could only be sold at a discount. But with this lottery for free products, where more than half are potentially free, most people would likely want to buy.
His eyes suddenly brightened: "Comrade Su, your method is genius. You’re simply a genius."
With this, the unsellable stock in the warehouse will surely be cleared quickly.
How does Comrade Su’s mind work? How could she come up with such a brilliant idea?
She solved his several-day-long headache in an instant.
Su Xiaoxiao felt a bit embarrassed by his praise. These are just some modern sales tricks; she was merely standing on the shoulders of giants and picking the ready-made ones.
After leaving Manager Wang’s office, Su Xiaoxiao had just reached the counter when someone called out to her: "Hello, are you Comrade Su?"
Su Xiaoxiao turned around to see a young man with black-framed glasses, looking scholarly, standing behind her.
Su Xiaoxiao didn’t recall knowing this person and asked confusedly, "Who are you?"
The young man cleared his throat and spoke: "Comrade Su, I’m the manager of Guohua Bookstore next to your department store. My name is Chen Hai. I heard you have high school exam review materials, and I want to know how much inventory you have. If possible, our store would like to purchase some."
Recently, many people have come to the bookstore looking for high school exam review materials; they are scarce and hard to find.
He heard from a friend that there’s a salesperson named Su at the department store who has a channel for buying books.
"If possible, we’d be willing to give you a one-dollar commission on top of the book’s original price. How does that sound?"
A one-dollar commission is considered quite a high price in today’s terms.
Su Xiaoxiao didn’t expect that just when she was thinking about finding more ways to earn money, an opportunity would present itself so readily.
Not earning this money would be foolish.
Especially when it means just making a few more copies. Earning such a profit so easily is just too delightful.
Su Xiaoxiao somewhat regretted using that book as a table prop; she should have worshiped it like the God of Wealth.
With that thought, she immediately said, "Comrade Chen, how many copies do you need? I’ll ask my relatives tonight."
Seeing her agreement, Chen Hai quickly said, "We’d like to start with three hundred copies. Do you think your relatives can provide that many?"
Three hundred was a conservative estimate. Chen Hai was afraid of scaring her off by asking for too much at once and thought a bit before deciding on this number.
"No problem."
Su Xiaoxiao agreed readily.
Chen Hai breathed a sigh of relief and couldn’t help asking: "Comrade Su, if we need more after selling these, will your relatives still be able to supply?"
"No problem, no problem. My relatives run a printing factory; they can print as many as you need."
"Great, let’s finalize these plans. Just let us know the quote you’ll send over, and I’ll come by tomorrow morning to get it."
Chen Hai chatted with Su Xiaoxiao a bit more and left with a smiling face.
Those high school exam review materials are in high demand now; their bookstore securing the supply line first means they can definitely outshine other bookstores.
But this little Comrade Su, just a salesperson, has such a wide network. Could she be a relative of some high official?
Otherwise, how could she have such broad connections?
Where others couldn’t procure high school exam review materials, for her it was just a few words away.
Seems like it will be important to build a good relationship with this Comrade Su in the future.
Su Xiaoxiao, having dealt with the review materials matter, thanked Zhang Yulan and Qin Shuang before returning to her counter.
As soon as she stood back, she was met with the sparkling eyes of the two.
Zhang Yulan couldn’t help but ask: "Xiaoxiao, tell us the truth. Are you really the daughter of a high-ranking official, just experiencing life? Otherwise, how could you be so capable and have so many connections?"
Qin Shuang eagerly nodded along: "Xiaoxiao, share with us, and we promise not to spread it around."
Su Xiaoxiao: "..."
To say she was the daughter of an official, at best she was the daughter of a former village chief, nowhere near any high-ranking officials.
Seeing many salespeople around stretching their necks attempting to overhear, all with looks of curiosity.
Su Xiaoxiao smiled and gave an ambiguous answer, "Don’t make fun of me, at best I just have more friends and relatives than most, how could I be a high official’s daughter?"
With that, everyone suddenly understood, she wasn’t a high official’s daughter, she was a relative of one.
But this relative must be a close one, otherwise, how could she so easily resolve issues that trouble others?
Several people’s gazes at Su Xiaoxiao instantly turned respectful, not realizing this Comrade Su was so hidden and capable.
Zhang Dongmei pouted; how could Su Xiaoxiao, a country bumpkin, possibly have relatives who were high-ranking officials? Clearly another lie.
If that were the case, her father wouldn’t have ended up the way he did back then.
But Zhang Dongmei wouldn’t say this out loud now.
As they say, the higher they rise, the harder they fall. She’d let Su Xiaoxiao be praised to the skies before bringing her down to the ground, and that would be satisfying.
