CHAPTER 1934: CHAPTER 1934: NO GOOD INTENTIONS (PART 6)

Before Feng Qingxue could speak, Grandma Ye drew Lu Erxiong in: "I was wandering around the supply department at noon, saw some ducks, and specifically bought an old one. I stewed it all afternoon with the caterpillar fungus your mom sent me before. It smells delicious. You all should come over to have some soup and meat."

"Caterpillar fungus duck soup!" Lu Erxiong swallowed nervously, "Grandma Ye, you sure are generous!"

Caterpillar fungus is a very valuable tonic, he knows.

Grandma Ye chuckled, "Will you come or not?"

"Of course, I’ll come!" Lu Erxiong was never one to stand on ceremony.

Thick skin gets a piece of meat, thin skin gets nothing.

Feng Qingxue smiled helplessly, "Alright, Auntie Ye, I’ll first take my bicycle home. Aunt Zhang is preparing some dishes for the evening too. With the weather being hot, they’ll go to waste if not eaten. I’ll bring over a couple of Aunt Zhang’s stir-fried dishes, and we can combine dishes from both houses."

Upon arriving home, she realized the two bamboo baskets on the bicycle hadn’t been brought back with it.

They were likely left at the Ye and Wang homes along with the fruits, but Feng Qingxue didn’t mind. After all, at the training ground she only saw the bicycle and not the baskets.

Aunt Zhang quickly stir-fried a few dishes, packed them in food containers, and sent them with Feng Qingxue to the Ye household.

The Ye family’s cook made caterpillar fungus duck soup, shredded potatoes with vinegar and chili, braised eggplant, and tomatoes scrambled with eggs. Feng Qingxue brought stir-fried watermelon rind, boiled shrimp, and mushroom with greens, making for a complete table.

The main dish was noodles blanched in water, mixed with mashed garlic and cucumber strips, refreshing and easy to digest.

Vegetables don’t fill you up, and the boys have big appetites, so they quickly cleared the table of food and even poured the leftover noodles into the plates where dishes had been, dipping them in the remnants, leaving only some strands of red chili from the shredded potatoes.

Grandma Ye laughed heartily, "Being able to eat is a blessing, being able to eat is a blessing."

Then she sighed, "Luckily, our living conditions have improved over the last couple of years. During the three-year hardship period, how would we have fed such a large group of kids! Never mind meat, even grain wasn’t enough."

Lu Erxiong, after finishing his meal, could still munch on an apple, "Lucky that I’ve had meat since I was born."

"You should be grateful to your mom, otherwise, with your cheekiness, you’d have been slapped 800 times." Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue have never skimped on anything for the children. Look around the military district compounds, how many families spoil their kids like this? They’ve never hit the children either; other boys from different families usually have felt the belt once or twice."

Lu Erxiong bit into half an apple and bowed with clasped hands towards Feng Qingxue just as Director Wang from the investigation department walked in and noticed, "Oh, what’s Erxiong done wrong now, apologizing?"

Lu Erxiong had been here just a couple of months but had already gotten familiar with everyone inside and out; many folks recognize him.

"Just being mischievous, not doing anything bad." Grandma Ye quickly invited him to sit and called the nanny to pour some tea, "Why did you come personally?"

Director Wang expressed his gratitude, "I’ve clarified Tang Xin’s purpose; I thought I’d come let you know."

"Offering unsolicited favors, either a scoundrel or a thief. What’s she coming for?" Seeing Director Wang’s embarrassed look, Grandma Ye felt a jolt, "Don’t tell me I guessed right?"

"According to Tang Xin’s confession, she came to find Ye Yan in hopes of reconciling with Ye Xiangqian with Ye Yan’s support."

Feng Qingxue was sipping tea — the nice tea leaves Ye Zhengjun asked his former boss for, perfect in color, aroma, and flavor. Hearing Director Wang’s response, she was stunned and sprayed tea on the ground, dumbfounded, "Reconcile? That’s quite the self-confidence!"

Grandma Ye was also dumbfounded; she never imagined it would be such an answer.
