Back to the Past to Become a Fishing King
Chapter 233 - 157: Mi Qiao! Mi Qiao!!_2
The attention of the four people simultaneously focused on the bobber of Zhang Yang's fishing rod.
They watched as the bobber quickly flipped over, then slowly and steadily descended until it came to a stop at four marks.
The whole process seemed perfectly ordinary without any abnormality. Zhang Yang gently pressed down on the fishing line, holding the rod handle with his right hand without letting go.
About ten seconds later, the bobber still hadn't moved. Zhang Yang lightly flicked the tip of the rod with one hand.
With such an ordinarily simple teasing action, they saw the bobber suddenly dip dramatically, and in an instant, it was submerged!
Zhang Yang's expression turned serious, and with a slight flick of his wrist, he executed the hook-setting and raising technique.
The resistance from underwater invigorated Zhang Yang, similar to the fight with the first bighead carp, indicating it wasn't a crucian carp!
"Got it! A bighead!"
Zhang Yang lowered his voice in announcement, instinctively crouching down and placing his left hand in the middle of the rod handle.
"Damn! Really got it! The spot has become active!"
Little Hui excitedly stood up from his fishing spot, eagerly grabbing the landing net handle as the fish started to swim.
"Don't rush, the line is thin, I'll tire it out slowly!"
Zhang Yang maintained his usual calmness in handling the fish, controlling the pacing of tiring the fish.
After stabilizing the fish's head-turning maneuvers a few times, Zhang Yang intentionally led the fish away from the feeding spot.
Ten minutes later, the second bighead carp exhausted its strength and surfaced.
It was about the same size as the first one; after netting it, Zhang Yang measured it with his fingers, finding it roughly five centimeters shorter than the first.
"Looks like the spot is truly active! I wonder if there are more! I'll call Brother Yan right away; the shrimp bait has worked wonders!"
Little Hui wore a smile wider than Zhang Yang's as he observed the situation around him.
As the fish was netted to the shore, Zhang Yang didn't rush to unhook it but casually picked up the bait scoop and added half a scoop of ground bait to the spot again.
After unhooking it and putting it in the fish keep, Zhang Yang completed a series of tasks and baited the hook again before casting it into the water.
The second fish had bitten after a teasing, which indicated the fish were in a lower water layer. Zhang Yang repeated the teasing technique during the fishing process.
Unexpectedly, this small technique proved very effective for the bighead carp around the bait spot.
Less than five minutes later, Zhang Yang encountered another bighead carp biting the bait.
Zhang Yang was expertly luring and tiring the fish when, informed by Little Hui, Brother Yan jogged over to the bank where they were fishing.
"Little Hui just called me, saying you caught a bighead carp this afternoon?" Brother Yan asked with a hint of excitement.
Zhang Yang nodded: "The first one is already in the fish keep, and this is the second one! I think there might still be more around the spot!"
"Do you have enough bait? If not, I can bring more! As long as it works, trading a few kilograms of shrimp for a few bighead carp, we're not losing out!"
There wasn't much bait left, about one and a half kilograms at the bottom of the basin, but considering there was just over an hour before sunset, it would barely suffice.
Zhang Yang replied: "No need to hurry for now, the evening should be the bighead carp's feeding window, so let's use the remaining bait for now!"
Over ten minutes passed, and the third bighead carp was brought to the surface.
This one was noticeably larger than the previous two and measured close to ninety centimeters, larger in both length and body width.
Seeing an almost-meter-long bighead carp float to the surface and get netted ashore, Brother Yan took out his phone and started taking photos, sending them to friends after capturing a few shots.
On the other hand, after successfully getting the third fish in the fish keep, Zhang Yang once again added half a scoop of ground bait and then glanced at Little Hui and Cheng.
"There should still be fish in the spot. I'm a bit tired; Cheng, why don't you and Little Hui switch to thicker lines and cast a few rods?
Maybe you two will get lucky and catch a real meter-long fish!"
Anglers always have this flaw of not feeling satisfied with what they have; when there's no bite, just having a bite will do, and when there's a bite, they find the fish too small.
Currently, Zhang Yang wasn't immune to this; he was no longer satisfied with a sub-meter bighead carp and was eager to catch a meter-long one to achieve a kind of "graduation" from this fish species.
Another notable point is that even after just tiring two fish, Zhang Yang said he was tired but actually wanted to give his companions a chance to cast and catch a fish.
After all, when you go fishing with friends, it's not just about enjoying yourself while your companions watch; hence the excuse to switch turns earlier.
Actually, Cheng and Little Hui were already eager to try it out too. When Zhang Yang gave the hint, Cheng promptly took out a thicker line, switched to a 1.5# leader, and fixed a misstep rope to the end of the rod before casting it into Zhang Yang's spot using the backhand swing technique.
A whole afternoon of constantly adding bait to maintain the spot finally paid off. With Cheng taking over the fishing, under Zhang Yang's guidance, he teased the bobber back and forth to lure another bighead carp into attacking.
After several attempts and in less than ten minutes, another bighead carp hooked onto the line!
Compared to the 0.8# leader, the 1.5# leader had a much higher tensile strength. Within a day, Cheng had already mastered the technique of slowly elevating the rod and quickly engaged in a tug-of-war with the fish in the water.
The line was thick, the technique slightly lacking, and the resistance from the fish was much stronger; nevertheless, it didn't escape, and after about ten minutes, the fish was finally floated up.
"Damn! This one's big! It's a meter carp, it should be a meter carp!"
Little Hui yelled excitedly as soon as the fish surfaced.
The fish indeed looked bigger than the previous ones when viewed from the water!
Cheng's method of tiring wasn't as skillful and gentle as Zhang Yang's; brute forcing the fish into submission, it took around ten more minutes, indicating this fish had even stronger stamina.
Soon, the fourth bighead carp was dragged to the shore, and Zhang Yang assisted with the landing net to haul it up.
After a simple measurement, the fish reached a length of over a meter. The team of four successfully unlocked the coveted meter-sized carp achievement!
"Damn it! We've finally outdone ourselves! Come on, Xiao Yi, help me take some photos with the catch! Don't forget to send them to me later; I want to print them out and hang them in the living room!"
Cheng held the big head carp through the net head, feeling immensely proud as all the previous efforts and struggles seemed worthwhile at this moment!
In the next ten minutes, everyone took turns taking photos with the big fish, and finally, Cheng decisively placed it into the fish keep.
"It's not dark yet; maybe there's still a chance to get another! Little Hui, both Cheng and I have caught fish, now it's your turn to try!"
Zhang Yang casually added some bait, smiling as he spoke.
"Alright! I'm not asking for much, just one fish will do!"
Little Hui took his rod to his original middle fishing position, baited the hook, and like Cheng, used a backhand swing to cast, continuing the fishing.
Perhaps the excitement from catching the meter carp earlier had scared the fish away from the spot, for fifteen whole minutes passed without any movement.
Seeing the sky gradually darken, with the sun about to set behind the mountains on the opposite shore in at most twenty minutes, Zhang Yang, fully relaxed, added the last of the bait to the spot.
With another bait change and cast, Little Hui instinctively tugged the rod to tighten the line upon getting into position.
The next second, the bobber was suddenly pulled under, another fish had taken the bait.
The opportunity was there, but in a crucial moment, Little Hui's performance wasn't as steady as Zhang Yang's or Cheng's.
In his panic, he lifted the rod too vigorously, repeating the old mistake of applying too much force.
With a powerful rod lift to set the hook, they heard the swoosh of the fishing line as it cut through the water, successfully hooking the fish's mouth.
But due to the excessive force, it startled the fish into a desperate escape underwater.
The 1.5# leader strained under the pull of the fish, buzzing noisily; before he could react, the fishing rod was nearing being dragged into a tug-of-war.
With a snap, the hook broke, and the rod bounced back upwards.
"Damn it! It got away again!"
Little Hui, who lost the fish, felt utterly exasperated, wanting to die as he dejectedly put down his rod, frustratedly rubbing his face with both hands.
