Several days of preparing. After several days of strategies and checking we have all our supplies. Today, I leave with the hunters and guardians to fight shadows in some unknown location. Today, I am leaving Conrad for at least a

week.

We are loading everything into the helicopters when I’m distracted by a figure standing at the edge of bthe /bbarracks holding a duffel bag over his shoulder.

“Leroy, what are you doing here?“.

He steels himself against my gaze and squares his shoulder. He is clearly expecting an argument from whatever speech he is about to deliver. “I was the Alpha of my pack for b25 /byears. During thest 5-10 years, we have been raided three times and lost members of our pack. We lost all connection, so I thought they were dead, but if they were forced to reject me, the bond snapping would have felt like them dying. I’ming with you as I need to know if any of them were taken and are being held there. I need to take them home if they are there“.

I take a deep sigh and realise he is not going to back down on this.

“Fine. You cane. But you follow mine and Liam’s orders to the letter. No running off or vignt crap that will put bus /bat risk“.

He nods and runs over to the chopper and jumps in. Liam just raises an eyebrow and looks at me. I send him a mindlink to say I will fill him in on the way. He gets in the helicopter, and Conrad ps him in the back as they

farewell.

Conrad walks over to me and pulls me into a tight hug and whispers against me. “Make the promise“.

“I promise to alwayse back to you“.

We kiss, and just as it starts getting more intense, the rotors start. We pull apart and rest our foreheads against each other as we feel the breeze start to increase, letting us know it is time for me to go.

I push away and don’t even look back as I make my way to get on board. I know I need to be strong, and if I look back, I might not leave.

I climb in and watch as the pack gets smaller and smaller as we head over to our target.

It’s several hours beforend, and the sun has started to set. We are setting up a campsite in arge field at the edge of the forest. We clear what we need to for the night and start to set up camp. I can see the men pulling out swag and sleeping bags, some of them just want to sleep as wolves for the night.

That’s when I notice Liam ordering some men to pull out arge wad of fabric and startying it out on a t section ofnd. It’s only when I see it go up that I notice it is the tent Cordelia got changed in and the one bI /b

“What the hell is that doing here?“.

Liam yells victoriously. “Pay up, suckersb“/b.

I storm over to him and cross my arms bas /bbI /bstare at him, collecting the cash. “Liam. Exin“.

He’s grinning as he talks to me. “Well, you didn’t think we would let our pregnant Luna Queen slum it with the rest of us, did you. Even in battles, the general has a tent, bso /beveryone knew where they were. So we are setting you up in style. We all agreed but I made bets with everyone that you would be pissed the second you saw. bI /bwas right“.

I just roll my eyes. Of course, they did this. The idea of sleeping in a bigfy tent does sound better than the floor, but they know I hate special privileges. I look around, and not one of them is even hesitating at the fact that I’m mad at them. Guess I have a bigger fight to worry about at the moment.

A figure at the edge of the tree line gets my attention. It’s King Florian, and he looks worried. I walk over to him to see what is going on.

“King Floran, is the fairy barrier in ce?“b. /b

He nods but looks solemn. “Yes. I understand the importance of this, and I can sense the shadow’s presence more on thisnd. I just hope the forest isn’t destroyed in the process. Some of these trees hold the knowledge of 500 yearsb. /bYou need to try and protect them“b. /b

“bI /bunderstand. We will do everything we can“.

He just nods and turns to walk back into the forest as I turn to look at the campsite. The wolves are starting to y fight and practice tenchinques, as the only structure that needed to go up was mine. I head to my supplies and pull out a nket to startying out the quartz crystals. It’s the first night of the full moon, so they need to charge as much as possible for tomorrow.

I’m woken the following morning by a rumble of trucks and the sound of rushing water. The supply trucks and Psirens have arrived. Before long, a screech is heard from above as the Phoenixes arrive as well.

We prepare throughout the day and rest as much as we can. We attack at night, so we will have the moon on our side for breaking themand bonds.

As soon as the full moon starts to rise and we get word from King Florain that the fairy barrier is in full force and no shadows have gotten out, we head into the forest.

We are all wearing our nes of Quartz and head deeper into the forest. It is unnervingly quiet for a forest. Even at nightb, /byou would expect to hear owls, bats, and mice. Anything. But nothing. Without the life that is normally around, this forest feels dead.

My ears prick up when I hear running water. The river. I follow the sound to try and find any sense of life, but even the water feels offb. /bCan’t exin how, but like Serena could sense poison in it.

I asked the Psirens if they could sense it, and they could. They started to manipte in small amounts and decided not to risk doing a lot at once in case the shadows could sense it. We stay put while they move to form the second barrier. It’s an hour before they are in position, and we move forward with our attack.
