Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog
Chapter 427
Kai excitedly bounced his leg up and down as Suzy approached Zheng Zhang from the bench.
Kai was expecting a wave or maybe for him to sign the piece of paper she had handed Suzy. However, he didn't expect Zheng to walk to where Kai was waiting.
His eyes widened as the player he admired from afar walked closer to him. His teammates turned to the situation with curiosity, and some of them were amazed when they saw Kai.
"Zheng is going to that Kai Guo guy?"
"Dang, this is my first time seeing him this close. He's really handsome."
"Crap. I thought I could hold a candle up to him, but there's no chance."
"I think I could!"
"There's no way."
Suzy shook her head in amusement as she watched Kai try to hold in his excitement. However, having observed him for the past year, she could tell that he was internally flaming.
As Zheng Zhang stood before Kai, he let out a small gasp.
"Kai, right?" Zheng asked, to which Kai enthusiastically nodded.
Zheng offered his hand with a wide smile. "I'm a big fan. I briefly watched the game with the Giants and the Dragons, and you were amazing. It's an honor to meet you."
Kai couldn't believe what he was hearing. Zheng Zhang, the hardworking living legend, was actually his fan!
"I should be the one saying that," Kai said, causing Zheng to chuckle.
"Well, I heard from Suzy that you would like to talk with me?"
Kai's eyes widened as he glanced at Suzy. He did not say those words.
However, he had no choice but to agree in the end.
"Uh, yeah," he chuckled. "I just wanted to say I was a big fan." Sear?h the n??el Fire.nёt website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
"It's really an honor, man," Zheng said. "I would have never expected someone so good as you to idolize someone like me."
"What do you mean?" Kai asked. "You're the best player there is!"
Zheng's eyebrows raised in surprise. "Best?"
Kai scratched the back of his head, suddenly feeling shy. "I'm sorry, man. Is it too overwhelming? I just felt like you needed to hear it."
"I know that you didn't start off as the best, and you probably think you're still not the best until now. However, I really admire how you worked so hard to get to where you are."
"And even though you've reached such great heights, you still remained humble. You keep working hard. You don't stop playing. You don't forget the essence of sportsmanship."
"So, even if you're not objectively the best, you're still the best player for me," Kai said from the bottom of his heart.
Suzy's eyes widened as Kai finished his mini-speech.
'Well, I didn't expect to feel jealous of Zheng, too,' she thought.
Zheng, on the other hand, was rendered speechless. It was true that he has been doing his best until now. To be acknowledged was something he didn't know he needed.
Kai Guo just became a lot more interesting in his eyes.
When he first saw him, he felt that he was similar to Calvin. However, with a closer look, it actually felt like he was more similar to Max.
Yet, in their last game with the Giants, Zheng found some similarities with Jian. Enjoy exclusive chapters from My Virtual Library Empire
With that, he thought that Kai would be like Jian. Mixed with his good looks, great physique, and proficient skills, it was just a recipe for a cocky disaster.
However, hearing Kai right now, Zheng felt as though he was talking to an innocent little kid—one who liked basketball a little way too much.
He cleared his throat and glanced back at his teammates. It seemed like they were waiting for him, but Zheng gave them a signal to go first. His teammates were confused, but they nodded in the end.
With that, Zheng turned to face Kai.
"Do you want to come and hang out for a while?" he asked.
Kai's eyes widened in disbelief. THE Zheng Zhang was asking him to come out? Was this a prank or something?
"Or are you busy?" Zheng asked.
Kai quickly shook his head. "No," he said. "I'm not busy. I was just planning on training this afternoon."
"Perfect," Zheng said. "Let's go then."
"Where are we going?" Kai asked.
Zheng smirked as he turned to him. "To the court."
Zheng walked to the unoccupied Land Court with Kai and Suzy trudging behind him.
"Goodness," Suzy muttered as Kai followed after Zheng like a lost little puppy. "I regret introducing them to each other now."
Suzy occupied the bench while Zheng and Kai stood on one side of the court.
Kai watched as Zheng grabbed a ball from the side and passed it to Kai.
It wasn't just a normal pass. It was the kind of pass that you would see Zheng do in an intense game. Suzy was even surprised by the speed; however, what surprised her even more was the fact that Kai caught it perfectly.
Her eyes widened as she watched their interaction.
"As expected," Zheng said as he looked at Kai, his arms crossed in front of his chest. "You've got fast reflexes."
"Thanks," Kai said.
Just then, Zheng grabbed the ball from Kai at lightning speed—like an eagle snatching a flying fish from a flowing river.
"But not fast enough," Zheng said with a smirk. He dribbled twice before shooting the ball.
Kai's eyes widened—not because his idol was in front of him but because of the way he shot the ball.
He didn't turn around. The ball went through the hoop, and Zheng did not even bother to look at the ring!
Kai gulped as he felt he was in front of a true monster.
Suzy clicked her tongue from the bench. "Take it easy, Zheng!" she exclaimed. "I won't let you bully Kai like this—I'm warning you."
Zheng shook his head in amusement as he walked to where the ball was and grabbed it again.
"I'm not bullying him," he softly said.
"Then, what are you doing?" Suzy asked.
Zheng turned to Kai once more and smiled.
"I'm going to help him win against the Guardians."
