CHAPTER 13: DEAL

While Selena was fine with being complimented by a potential customer, her servant wasn’t.

"Brat, how dare you flirt with the Mistress?" A butler with his hair slicked black like an Italian mob approached Ray threatningly.

An iron plate, denoting his rank as a beast tamer, hung from his side, and his name was written on it. He was Jain G. Jailer, an iron-rank beast tamer, a knight of the kingdom!

"You flirted with me?" Selena blinked her eyes at Ray teasingly.

"I flirted with you? When did that happen? Why don’t I know?" Ray acted confused. The most he did was admire a beauty who deserved it? Was it forbidden to do that in this world?!!!

"Jain, looks like it was a misunderstanding. How about you go and stand on the side?"

"I will do you as say, Mistress."

Jain didn’t want to leave Selena alone with a stranger, but he had no choice as he couldn’t possibly disobey his master’s daughter.

Jain went away, and Selena asked Ray a question.

"What about you? What’s your name?"

"Ray." Ray answered her honestly.

"Ray?" Selena felt like she had heard this name before. Soon, she remembered when and where she had heard it. "Ah! You are the one who awakened the cursed seal in the trial held yesterday?"

"So you know about my embarrassing failure."

"There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Over 90% of humans fail to awaken as beast tamers."

Her words made him take a good look at her. She was different, very different from the people he had met so far.

"Did you hunt it yourself?" She pointed at the demonic corpse in his hand and asked.

Ray simply nodded.

"You are just a mortal, yet you hunted down such a fearsome demonic beast? Not bad. Not bad at all. Your courage and boldness will get you far. Although you wouldn’t stand out like beast tamers, it won’t be hard to become a well-respected hunter in the town if you keep accomplishing such feats." She praised him sincerely.

Hunter was the term used for people who weren’t beast tamers but could hunt weak demonic creatures.

They were highly valued by the people of the lowest rung of society, as amongst mortals, their yearly earnings were the highest.

Usually, to get connected to hunters, families of mortals would offer their beautiful daughters.

’The words that flow out of her mouth are so nice. Anyone who marries her will have my envy.’ Ray himself had no such thought.

He was butchered like a pig in his past life; in this life, the same thing could happen if he wasn’t careful enough. He wanted to grow strong so he would not be at the mercy of others. He had no time to spare for other things!

"You praise me too highly."

Ray’s humble attitude resonated with her, making her interest in him deepen somewhat.

"By any chance, are you here to sell the HarpoonHead’s corpse?" she asked.

At her words, Ray nodded.

"Please help me deal with it."

"Follow me. Let’s sit down and talk."

She took him upstairs.

Ray’s gaze swept across the entire place as he followed after her.

The wooden floors were polished and inlaid with intricate patterns, the tall arched windows were draped in velvet curtains, the crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling had their light scattered like tiny stars across the richly decorated store, and the air carried the faint scent of lavender, calming the nerves and washing away tension.

"The rich really know how to enjoy life," he thought as this whole branch of Fang & Fang followed a refined, luxurious interior theme that was as aesthetically perfect as it was easy on the eyes.

"Come. Take a seat," Selena gestured for him to sit down.

He sat around a round mahogany table.

Its surface was glossy and dark, polished to perfection. A lace-edged runner lay down its center, with a small vase of fresh white lilies adding a touch of calm elegance.

Selena spread a thick, oil-treated beast-hide cloth over the table before gesturing for him to place the corpse on it, no doubt to keep the table’s pristine surface from being tainted.

"How much can it sell for?" Ray questioned.

"Hmm... let’s see," Selena said, resting her hands on the table. "The market price for a single vial of its blood is a string of copper. A chunk of its meat weighing 500 grams can be sold for the same amount. The body of this HarpoonHead is two meters and thirty centimeters long, and from it, we can draw roughly 10 vials of blood and harvest about 7,000 grams of edible meat. That means, just from selling its blood and meat alone, you could make 24 strings of copper."

"So much?" Ray uttered in shock.

A string of copper was made up of 100 copper coins, which was equivalent to a single silver coin.

A single silver coin was enough for a man to fill his three basic needs for a whole week and still have some money leftover.

Of course, if they desired more—such as visiting a brothel, drinking, or eating in a restaurant—then their expenses would increase and even a single silver coin wouldn’t last them a day.

"Haha, don’t be shocked," Selena explained. "Its meat and blood, once purified by an alchemist to a level where it’s safe to consume in small doses, can boost a man’s vitality and make him feel confident in bed. It’s especially popular amongst husbands who can’t perform well enough to satisfy their wives."

It was actually most popular amongst lecherous men who loved remaining stuck between the legs of women more than anything, but she obviously had thin skin and found it impossible to spew such vulgar facts aloud.
