CHAPTER 15: FIRST FIGHT AGAINST A BEAST TAMER (1)
"Jain, see the guest out."
At Selena’s words, Butler Jain led Ray out of the store, but instead of simply seeing him off, he leaned close and delivered a venomous reminder the moment they were out of her sight.
"Don’t get any ideas about the mistress. A lowly thing like you isn’t even worthy of hovering around her like a fly."
The tone was threatening, the words openly offensive.
Ray’s brows furrowed, anger brimming in his chest. Since his arrival, Butler Jain had been targeting him for ridiculous reasons and petty misunderstandings. He’d had enough of the man’s bullying.
"Barkings of a dog. I can’t be bothered to listen."
Ray wasn’t a good man by any means. While he didn’t mind returning kindness with kindness, if someone tried to humiliate him, he would repay it a hundredfold. Experiencing it firsthand, Butler Jain’s face turned red like a baboon’s peachy bum.
"Did you just dare compare me to a dog?" Butler Jain shouted, completely pissed.
His shout attracted the attention of passerbys, who stopped to watch, hoping to see a good show.
Ray gave them exactly that as to someone from the 21st century, the words spoken by Butler Jain were no different from begging to be humiliated. And Ray had no reason not to take advantage of Butler Jain’s arrogant, thoughtless mistake.
"So the dog doesn’t just bark nonstop. It also has hearing problems," Ray scoffed as a strong wind blew through the trader’s street, rattling signboards and making the long tails of Butler Jain’s coat flutter, his silhouette loomed tall and menacing, for, with just words, Ray had stabbed his pride sharper than any blade.
He, who was used to being respected by commoners, had never expected to be mocked, insulted, and slapped in the face repeatedly in public by one. His rage erupted, driving his actions.
"You’re seeking death!"
A ruthless glint flickered in his eyes as he suddenly struck, his fist tore through the air as it raced towards Ray, giving off the lethal impression of an an eagle swooping down from the sky to seize its prey.
Shua!
A green radiance erupted from his body, pouring into his fist, swelling it to the size of a water vat as it came crashing down upon Ray.
Facing this kind of ferocious attack, a normal person would have already felt so frightened that their fight-or-flight response would have been triggered, and, no doubt, they would’ve chosen to run away, as the force behind Butler Jain’s attack was comparable to the powerful blow of an initial stage iron rank beast of the Physical type, one specializing in raw strength.
To put it into perspective, his punch carried a force of over a thousand pounds, almost double that of a professional boxer of the 21st century. It could easily shatter a commoner’s bones.
Women shielded their children’s eyes. Some men shook their heads in pity and some men watched with even more interest, their gazes intensifying.
The onlookers had already considered Ray dead, and it wasn’t just them.
A cruel smile also tugged at Butler Jain’s lips as he could already seem to imagine Ray’s neck breaking under his fist.
"Huh?"
The onlookers gasped, as if something shocking had happened.
"Huh?"
The smile on Butler Jain’s face vanished as soon as it appeared, as Ray dodged backward, widening the gap between them so much in a flash that Butler Jain’s fist only tore through thin air.
"He dodged it? How could this be?" Butler Jain’s eyes filled up with disbelief, so did the eyes of the onlookers. He had attacked suddenly, and there was barely any distance between them. In such a situation, it should have been impossible for a commoner like Ray to dodge. But the opposite had happened, taking things beyond their expectations.
"What kind of freaky speed is this?"
Before attacking, even in their wildest dreams, the onlookers and Butler Jain couldn’t have expected that Ray’s speed was terrifying, comparable to a demonic creature specializing in speed. Only after seeing it with their own eyes did they realize Ray was fast, faster than any commoner they, and they wondered how he got that fast when a crisp noise echoed in the air, causing countless jaws to drop.
Pah!
Ray’s hand with Butler Jain’s cheek with such speed and sharpness that Butler Jain’s ears rang and his head snapped sideways. One side of his face swelled, ballooning red, now looking like a babboon’s bum in both shape and colour.
Adding insult to injury, Ray sneered. "How dare you bite? Bad dog!"
The onlookers gasped again.
"He, a mere commoner, slapped a beast tamer?"
"Is he not afraid of death?"
"What a fearless man."
"Butler Jain is totally humiliated. Hahaha! If I was him, I would dug a hole and jump into it to hide my shame."
Their words were like a trigger.
Butler Jain failed to kill Ray and was humiliated instead. What’s worse was that this humiliation was witnessed by others. The onlookers were pointing at him, whispering in disdain and laughing lightly. He felt like he was being spat at by the whole world, and he blamed Ray for that, his hatred for him increasing to another level, his face turning red, his blood boiling in rage.
"I’m going to kill you!" Butler Jain growled at Ray viciously, his eyes glowing a vicious green.
A spirit with long ears like a cat and a turtle shell on its back appeared beside him, its paws floating a few feet above the ground.
The Green Enchanter.
Ray recognized it at a glance.
It was a Spirit-type demonic creature of the initial-grade Iron Rank, specializing in support skills like body strengthening.
So far, he had only encountered Physical and Magical type demonic creatures. This was his first time seeing a Spirit-type, and though a flicker of fascination stirred in him, so too did a great sense of apprehension.
"Gouhgi!"
The moment it appeared, the Green Enchanter surged into Jain’s body with a howl, vanishing from sight.
In the next breath, Jain’s body swelled monstrously, his clothes ripping apart to reveal a hulking physique with bulging muscles rippling beneath skin veined with thick, glowing lines of sickly green, twisting like snakes.
"Die!!!"
Right after the transformation, Butler Jain roared and leaped forward with such intensity that the distance between him and Ray disappeared in a blink. Then, swinging his thick, barrel-like arm in a brutal arc, he aimed to crush Ray in a single blow.
Ray sidestepped, dodging the vat-like fist.
Looking at Butler Jain’s hulking body, he knew he could do him no harm unless he increased his strength.
Luckily, he had the resources to power up instantly.
His mind racing and his heart full of rage, he put two points into his strength.
[-2 SP]
[Your Strength has increased from 1 to 3!]
Now it wasn’t just his speed that was as terrifying as a demonic beast specializing in speed. His strength had also climbed up to a level where it could be compared to a beast specializing in raw power!
A glint flashed in Ray’s eyes. It was time to teach the foul butler a lesson!
