Beast Tamer Era: Capturing SSS-ranks with the Strongest Taming System
Chapter 27: Buying new equipments
CHAPTER 27: BUYING NEW EQUIPMENTS
In the Dark Age, humans were at the bottom of the food chain.
It was hard to survive.
No one could afford to be selective about what they ate in that age.
They consumed whatever they could get their hands on, and in doing so, they developed a taste for all sorts of things, including the stinky, iron-rich blood of demonized wolves and their gamey, coarse meat.
Even though the Dark Age had long passed, the habits forged during those brutal centuries lingered, influencing human preferences and practices.
So, even nowadays, a lot of people ate such game.
One could say it was in their tradition and culture!
"I feel like my understanding of the people of this era has deepened," Ray thought before proceeding with the deal he was striking with Selena.
He earned a little over 30,000 silver coins from selling the bodies of the demonized wolves and their demonic cores.
1000 silver coins was worth 1 gold coin.
Selena gave him a pouch that contained 30 gold coins as he transferred the corpses of the demonized wolves from his interspatial ring to her storage item.
"I also have a pile of demonic cores I want to sell," Ray revealed.
Many demonic cores were already in Torvin’s interspatial ring when Ray had looted it. He wanted to convert them into currency before going on a shopping spree.
"I’ll have to inspect them first before I can make a offer. Please bring them out," Selena expressed.
The quality of demonic cores determined their prices.
"Sure," Ray replied.
With a thought, a bunch of demonic cores appeared on the table.
Selena had been in this business for a few years now. So she only needed a few glance to discern their quality and determine their worth.
In the end, she paid a hefty sum for them, as their levels varied.
Ray’s fortune surged to 40 gold coins.
’Hunting is really profitable.’
Happiness bloomed in his heart.
As he was looking to use his newfound wealth to get better equipment, he then sold Deep Blue, earning over a hundred silvers.
"Is there anything else I can help you with?" Selena smiled with her eyes as she looked at Ray. He had brought a lot of business to her shop, so she found him very pleasant to look at.
"There is," Ray nodded at her words. "I want to buy enchanted bronze-rank equipment."
"What’s your budget? Just so you know, bonze-rank armor and weapons are far more expensive than iron-rank gears," Selena said.
Typically, an enchanted iron-rank item was worth around 150 silver coins. If it came from a reputable brand, the price could even reach 1,000 silver coins at auction.
Bronze-rank equipment, on the other hand, started at several gold coins, with the best pieces easily reaching tens of thousands silver coins.
"Forty gold coins," Ray replied.
Selena tilted her head to the side, her eyes narrowed in thought. A few moments later, she looked back at him and spoke, her voice soft and pleasant, her words extremely professional, like a saleswoman.
"Recently, our store obtained two pieces of bronze equipment worth 20 gold coins each. They are well within your budget, and I believe they should be to your liking. Should I bring them out?"
"Please do," Ray said in agreement.
She went away and soon returned with the items she had in mind, placing them down on the table.
Ray looked at the items that had been placed down. One was a pair of sturdy bronze gauntlets. The other was an armor with a turtle shell–like pattern drawn on its back.
"What do they do?" Ray asked.
Selena immediately proceeded to give him an explanation.
"The Turtle Shell armor can block up to three lethal strikes from bronze-rank experts. As for iron-rank experts, it would be very hard for them to break its shield down. Its effect activates automatically when your life is in danger, so there’s no need for manual input. Once its effect has been triggered thrice, it enters a deep state of slumber and becomes ineffective for three days. During that time, you can still benefit from the material it’s made out of, which can withstand plenty of damage. After three days, you need to feed it a hundred thousand units of magic power to get it to work again."
Selana pointed towards the other item on the table.
"The gauntlets are a replica."
Ray asked,
"Of what item?"
Selena replied,
"The Deadman’s Greaves."
"Have you never heard of it?" Selena asked as Ray looked confused.
"It’s only recently that I gained the freedom to explore the world, so I know very little," Ray admitted.
"No worries." Selena said, "I will explain it to you."
"The Deadman’s Greaves is the name of a divine item with the ability to greatly affect gravity. It can even pull down meteorites from the sky. During the last war, it was used to decimate the Alliance of the three Maddened Kings that had destroyed a few of our strongholds, killing millions of people in the process."
"Being a bronze replica of a divine item, the Deadman’s Gauntlets’ ability to affect gravity is considerably weaker. But you can use it to speed up, push, or pull objects, or decrease the speed of anything within a five-meter radius around you by increasing the gravity acting on them."
Selena finished explaining.
"Alright, I will buy them."
Both items seemed too good to miss out on.
Carrying the Turtle Shell Armor would be like having three extra lives with him, while the Deadman’s Gauntlets, with their ability to manipulate gravity, offered endless possibilities.
This, Ray wanted to possess both of them regardless of the cost.
"That will be 40 gold coins," Selena said as she packed up the items and handed them over.
"Here you go." Ray gave her the requested amount before storing the items in his interspatial ring.
"Thank you for choosing to do business with us, Dear Customer," Selena said sincerely.
Every time she sold an item, she received a commission of 5%. By selling items worth over 36 gold coins to Ray, she had earned around 2 gold coins herself, which was a considerable sum.
Not to mention, the raw materials she had brought for him could be turned into excellent equipment under the care of her family’s blacksmiths and alchemists. Selling those could earn her several dozen gold coins.
Although a portion of it would have to be given away as running a branch of a famous business and employing skilled labour came with its costs, the remaining amount would still be significant for a pure-blooded noble like her.
Pure-blooded noble.
It was a title granted to those who had helped in the establishment of the kingdom and their descendants.
The truth was that Selena’s great grandfather was one of the valiant heroes who had fought alongside the Overlord to open a safe haven for humanity in this world overrun by demonic creatures!
"You’re welcome," Ray replied.
