Beast Taming: Starting From Zero
Chapter 870: Tail Guide
CHAPTER 870: TAIL GUIDE
If this mechanical-type beast could be replicated and mass-produced, wouldn’t it completely monopolize the interstellar delivery industry…
This was the second time Qiao Sang had seen this mechanical claw. She was much calmer now, reaching out to take the potion vial.
The claw slowly withdrew back into the screen.
“Xun Xun~”
At that moment, Little Treasure placed a sunflower seed onto the claw, watching curiously.
The claw paused briefly, then withdrew into the screen, taking the seed with it.
The ripples across the display quickly faded away.
“Xun Xun!”
Little Treasure turned to his Beast Master with an excited look.
See? See that? The seed disappeared!
So this mechanical-type beast could directly take items back as well? If the computer screen were big enough, could it even pull a person inside, instantly transporting them back to Imperial Beast University? …No, that seemed unlikely. Probably it could only transport objects, otherwise it would be far too heaven-defying.
Qiao Sang thought about this while nodding absentmindedly: “I saw it…”
Then she pulled herself together and looked at Little Treasure.
“Why haven’t you gone to train yet?”
“Xun Xun…”
Little Treasure stiffened, then immediately began gathering energy to form a Light Wall.
But he stayed exactly where he was, just so his Beast Master could see that he was training.
Qiao Sang turned her eyes away, placing the Shortening Potion aside.
How much Gangbao could absorb from it, she didn’t know. But if it worked well, Gangbao might evolve directly into a Steel Sword Falcon. That meant it absolutely had to be taken outdoors. She would save it for the training grounds.
Qiao Sang returned her focus to the exchange list.
[Name: Feather of Legend]
[Type: Feather]
[Function: Enhances a pet beast’s aura, or can be used to track down the legendary Seven-Headed Bone Bird through its lingering presence.]
[Note: Each head of the Seven-Headed Bone Bird has only one feather. If you use this feather to find it, the beast will also sense the feather’s presence on you. If your strength is insufficient, do not redeem—unless you want to throw your life away.]
[Points: 100,000]
A hundred thousand points for a single feather? Outrageous. But that’s legendary beasts for you, their parts were always priceless. Qiao Sang sighed, scrolling further.
[Name: Wraith Crystal]
[Type: Consumable
[Function: Contains immense ghostly energy, beloved by Ghost-type beasts. Can raise the energy absorption limit for their current stage.]
[Note: All impurities have been purified. Safe for Ghost-types to absorb.]
[Points: 5,000]
---
[Name: Energy Fate Disc]
[Type: Auxiliary Tool
[Function: Detects unawakened elemental energy inside a beast. Helps deduce which attribute is most dominant and thus which evolution path is most suitable.]
[Note: If the beast has already reached its racial limit, it will only detect unawakened energy within the current stage.]
[Points: 5,000]
Imperial Beast University really had everything…
Qiao Sang stared at the description, thoughtful.
This tool could indeed help Beast Masters judge which evolution form best suited their pets. But both Yabao and Gangbao’s next evolutionary stages were still uncertain. Even if she detected latent attributes, she wouldn’t know which direction was correct.
Little Treasure and Lubao, however, each had only one evolution chain, no branching.
She still had 9,695 points, but with most of her upcoming time spent away on missions, she wouldn’t have much chance to earn more. Best not to waste them recklessly.
After careful thought, she didn’t redeem anything else.
Once she had skimmed through all available exchanges, she shut the computer and picked up the Shortening Potion. Looking at Gangbao, she said: “Let’s go to the training grounds.”
“Gang Zhan.” Gangbao nodded.
---
Beast Center – Outdoor Training Grounds
Qiao Sang stood in Training Field No. 9.
The surrounding chatter drifted into her ears: “Damn, scared me half to death just now. I was walking and suddenly hundreds of identical Fire-types charged past!”
“I saw too! They’re training at Field 2. And there’s another swarm of flying-types in Field 5.”
“Must be clones. I noticed while they were training, some just vanished mid-skill.”
“No clue what those Fire-types are called, but they looked amazing. I’m adding them to my list for a future contract beast.”
“I checked with my beast scanner, they’re Fire Qilu, from Yuhua region. But the flying-types? No record at all. Totally unidentifiable.”
“Seriously though, how are those beasts training themselves so obediently? I want to ask their Beast Master for tips…”
Qiao Sang tuned the voices out and handed Gangbao the potion...
Only to stop herself. She pulled it back.
“Make yourself bigger first.”
If Gangbao absorbed enough to evolve, its original full size had to be maintained. Otherwise, if the Lightweight miniaturization bracelet broke mid-evolution, it would be ruined.
“Gang Zhan.”
Gangbao nodded, then slowly expanded.
The crowd’s voices immediately rose again: “Look! That’s the unidentified flying-type!”
“Good grief, it’s massive. Is that a General-level beast? Or a King-level?”
“No idea. My scanner can’t identify it at all.”
“That ponytailed girl is its Beast Master? She looks so young!”
“Wait, that Fire-type is with her too!”
“So both those mysterious beasts belong to her?”
“Definitely. Both train with clones, same style. And we don’t even have these species in this region. Has to be her.”
The crowd swelled, drawn by curiosity.
Normally, spotting an unfamiliar beast on the street would only earn a glance or a quick scan. But here, two unknown species, one unscannable, both appearing spectacularly in massive groups? No wonder everyone was staring.
Qiao Sang ignored the stares. She turned to Little Treasure: “Give it to Gangbao.”
“Xun Xun~”
Little Treasure floated up with the potion, stopping in front of Gangbao.
“Gang Zhan.”
Gangbao lifted a wing to accept it.
“Xun Xun~”
Little Treasure wagged a stubby toe.
Your wings are too big. Let me feed you directly.
“Gang Zhan.”
Gangbao glanced at the tiny vial, then nodded and opened her beak.
Little Treasure carefully poured the potion inside.
Gangbao swallowed.
If this worked, she would officially have one King-level beast and three General-levels…
Even knowing Gangbao’s evolution was inevitable, Qiao Sang couldn’t help but feel tense.
Time ticked by.
Nothing happened.
The onlookers began muttering: “What’s she doing?”
“No idea. Just gave it a potion and now nothing?”
“Maybe wait. She wouldn’t bring it here just to drink a potion.”
“True. If it was just absorption, no need for a training field.”
And then...
A blinding white light erupted.
The chatter cut off instantly.
All eyes widened, fixed on that unmistakable glow.
So she’d enlarged it, brought it here, given it the potion, for evolution?!
As the silhouette within the radiance swelled larger, envy and awe rippled across the crowd.
They couldn’t even identify this beast. But its sheer size and pressure screamed high rank. Watching another Beast Master’s companion evolve always ignited a deep, primal yearning: One day, my beast will reach this too.
Beast Masters were born with that craving, etched into their blood.
She’s evolving… Qiao Sang’s heart leapt.
She’d half expected it, but seeing it happen for real still sent joy flooding through her.
Those 300 points had been worth it.
No wonder true geniuses mostly came from families with resources. With access to treasures like this, anyone could appear to be a prodigy.
“Xun Xun!”
“Xun Xun!”
Little Treasure stared in shock, then spun in excitement.
His little brother was stronger now, which meant his own value as big brother had risen too!
“Yap!”
Yabao wagged his tail, cheering happily.
Lubao poked her head from the backpack, watching silently.
The glow faded, revealing a beast over ten meters tall, armored in silver steel plates. The purple feathers exposed between them gleamed like blades. Its blood-red eyes were so sharp they made people flinch from their gaze.
Someone gulped and whispered: “Is that… King-level? Or… Emperor-level?”
“King-level, I think. If it were Emperor, the aura would be stronger, and the body larger.”
“I’m not so sure. I’ve seen King-level up close, and this feels stronger.”
“Maybe it just evolved. But with that size, it can’t possibly still be General-level.”
The doubter fell silent.
“That girl looks so young… and she already has a King-level beast? How…?”
“Don’t be fooled by appearances. Powerful Beast Masters rarely look their age.”
“True. She might be older than any of us.” The speaker’s voice dropped, afraid she’d hear.
More phones came out. Photos snapped. A few people wanted to approach, but the unknown aura of this newly-evolved flying beast held them back.
“Gang Zhan.”
Gangbao shrank back to smaller size and glided to Qiao Sang’s side.
For her, evolution wasn’t cause for wild joy. She knew, even stronger, she was still the weakest of the team.
“Xun Xun!”
“Xun Xun!”
Little Treasure, on the other hand, was ecstatic, circling wildly in celebration.
Qiao Sang took out her phone, ready to update Gangbao’s data. Then she checked the time and quickly planned her next steps.
She turned toward the service hall.
But after only a few steps, she spotted Mikayla in the crowd.
Surprised, Qiao Sang hurried over.
“Teacher, why are you here?”
Mikayla smiled.
“You made such a commotion. I heard it from my room. How could I not come?”
Qiao Sang’s first thought: As expected of an S-class powerhouse. She could hear it even from the dorms this far away.
Her second thought: Well… that’s normal for an S-class.
With people still staring, Qiao Sang felt embarrassed, though she kept a straight face and quickened her pace.
Mikayla glanced at Gangbao, satisfied.
“Good. I only just told you, and you’ve already used your points for the right potion.”
Mostly because it wasn’t expensive… Qiao Sang replied seriously: “Of course. I listen to my teacher.”
Mikayla’s smile deepened. This troublesome student was unpredictable, but always in the right ways. And obedient.
“What will you do next?” Mikayla asked.
“Update Gangbao’s data, then accept a mission.” Qiao Sang answered.
“I suggest the mission first.” Mikayla said.
“Your Steel Sword Falcon is from Chaosu Star, and this is the first of its kind. Updating its data will take ages. By then, the mission staff may have already gone off duty.”
Good point.
Qiao Sang recalled the endless delays when updating Yabao and Gangbao’s data before. She immediately changed course toward the elevator.
“I won’t come with you.” Mikayla said.
“Okay.” Qiao Sang nodded, carrying Yabao as she entered.
On the third floor, she knocked on the assessment office door.
“Yin Yin.”
A beast’s voice called from inside.
Qiao Sang froze, raising her hand to knock again-
“Yap.”
Yabao barked. The one inside was telling her to come in.
So that voice was meant for me?
Qiao Sang turned the handle and stepped in.
At the examiner’s desk sat a black-and-white mouse beast. Its tail seemed fused to its body, indistinguishable from where it began. Two sharp ears stuck up, a pair of silver glasses perched on its face.
Tail Guide. A Normal-type advanced beast. Flexible body, skilled at digging mazes underground.
The info surfaced in Qiao Sang’s mind. Looking at its serious appearance, she hesitated: “…Examiner?”
She remembered Flame Star had beasts serving as officials. Perhaps some regions here did too. This was more developed than Yuhua, after all.
The mouse beast blinked, then smiled stiffly.
“Yin Yin.”
“Yap.”
Yabao translated promptly.
It said it wasn’t.
