Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

CHAPTER 872: MY FATE! I''M COMING!
The Flying Tournament was a grand competition that only Beast Masters with flying-type pets could participate in.
It featured various events for flying pets: Aerial battles, aerial relays, aerial racing, and more.
Each event carried generous prizes, tailored specifically for flying-types, which attracted countless Beast Masters, many traveling from distant provinces and cities just to take part.
Qiao Sang sat on Yabao’s back, following the navigation in the air. Along the way, she saw many flying pets she had never encountered before, all heading toward the same destination.
After flying for more than ten minutes, a venue appeared above the white clouds. Its design, blending technology, futurism, and dynamic style, resembled a massive interstellar battleship.
Compared to the previous Air Control Center, this place was much more striking.
Yabao descended, landing on the clouds outside the venue.
Qiao Sang dismounted.
Immediately, many eyes turned toward them.
Among the diverse forms of flying pets, Yabao’s presence still stood out vividly.
Scanning the surroundings, Qiao Sang noticed something. Normally, people flying at high altitudes wore oxygen masks, but here at the Flying Tournament, only some visibly younger participants had them.
Most didn’t, clearly adapted to high altitudes, thanks to their flying pets’ feedback and long-term training.
She suddenly thought of something, turned to Yabao, and asked: “Can you still control your clones from this distance?”
“Yap.”
Yabao sighed. Yes, but the number had dropped significantly.
“It’s fine. If you can still control them for training at this height, that’s already impressive.” Qiao Sang reassured.
The venue floated 10,000 meters above the ground, and Yabao could still control his clones back at the Beast Center. This was far beyond what an ordinary General-level pet could achieve.
“Let me know when you need an Energy Recovery Potion.” Qiao Sang reminded.
“Yap!”
Yabao nodded in understanding.
Time to contact the supervisor… Qiao Sang pulled out her phone, preparing to dial the number listed in the mission briefing.
Just then, a sweet voice chimed beside her: “Hello, are you here for the Flying Tournament?”
Qiao Sang turned to see a woman in her twenties with black hair, brown eyes, and gentle features.
Beside her stood a bird-like pet about five meters tall. Its body was mostly cream-colored, feathers on its head were yellow on both sides, with a streak of cyan in the middle. Its tail and wing tips shimmered blue.
A Feathered Heron Eagle, General-level flying-type, renowned for its exceptional eyesight, capable of spotting fish in rivers even from kilometers above… The data flashed through Qiao Sang’s mind as she answered calmly: “I’m not.”
The woman blinked in surprise, then glanced at Yabao. Realizing something, she said with a smile of sudden understanding: “Right, I almost forgot. Only pets with flying as their primary attribute can enter the Flying Tournament.”
Then she tilted her head curiously: “By the way, what’s this pet called?”
As expected, always about Yabao. Qiao Sang sighed inwardly. She was used to it.
“A Fire Qilu.” Qiao Sang said.
“Fire Qilu…” The woman repeated the name softly, then smiled.
“I’m Fang Lan. This is my Feathered Heron Eagle.”
“Yu yu.”
The eagle called out, as though greeting.
“I’m Qiao Sang.”
“Oh! And what’s this flying pet called?” Fang Lan’s eyes lit up as she noticed Gangbao.
“Steel Sword Falcon.” Qiao Sang answered.
“Her level must be high.” Fang Lan mused, examining Gangbao closely before noticing the lightweight miniaturization bracelet on her talons.
Curious, she asked: “Why didn’t you register for the Flying Tournament? I remember this contest has no threshold, anyone with flying pets can enter. Only a few events require a certain number of flying-types.”
“I’m here for other business.” Qiao Sang replied casually.
“What about you? Competing?”
“I’m not.” Fang Lan admitted.
“I’m here for something else too.”
The atmosphere froze into silence.
Awkward. Neither knew what to say. Qiao Sang raised her phone.
“Then I’ll finish this call.”
“Sure, sure, go ahead.” Fang Lan said quickly, retreating with her Heron Eagle.
Qiao Sang dialed the supervisor’s number.
“Beep… beep…”
After half a minute, the line clicked on. A stern voice answered: “Who is this?”
“Hello, I accepted the assessment task to help maintain order during the Flying Tournament. Could you tell me where to go once I enter?” Qiao Sang explained directly.
“Where are you now?” [he supervisor asked.
“By Entrance 7.” Qiao Sang said, glancing at the nearby sign.
“Then enter through 7, show the ticket staff the stamped task paper, they’ll let you through. Keep turning left until you reach the Special Duty Office.” He instructed rigidly.
“Got it.” Qiao Sang hung up.
Following the directions, she smoothly entered and reached the Special Duty Office.
Inside, many Beast Masters and pets stood waiting.
Her eyes immediately caught Fang Lan again, this time in a Special Duty uniform.
Fang Lan also spotted her, her eyes widening in shock.
“You are…?” A man in a black suit with cropped hair walked over. His stern tone revealed him as the supervisor from the call.
“I’m Qiao Sang. I accepted the task to help maintain order. We just spoke on the phone.” She said.
The supervisor gave her a surprised look. She looked so young, almost like a minor.
Before he could respond, Fang Lan rushed over, stunned.
“You actually took the assessment task? You’re competing in the Regional Tournament?”
So we’re here for the same mission… but why did she get changed into uniform so quickly? Qiao Sang thought, but only nodded calmly.
“You two know each other?” The supervisor asked.
“We chatted outside earlier.” Fang Lan said, still looking conflicted.
“In that case, you’ll both handle the same area.” The supervisor decided.
“B Zone.”
Anyone signing up for the Regional Tournament was at least C-rank. These two looked young, but who knew, they might both make names for themselves soon.
---
Five minutes later, B Zone airspace.
“Didn’t expect you to sign up for this year’s Regional Tournament too.” Fang Lan said from atop her Heron Eagle, breaking the silence.
Too? Qiao Sang considered, then asked: “You’re here because of the assessment too?”
Fang Lan nodded.
“I accepted this task a month ago. Since the date was approaching, I came from Tianyi City yesterday.”
Then she looked at Qiao Sang with complicated eyes.
“You don’t look old enough for the Regional Tournament.”
Qiao Sang shot back instantly: “Neither do you.”
Fang Lan blinked, then burst out laughing.
“I’m 32.”
Qiao Sang glanced at her sincerely.
“You don’t look like it.”
Fang Lan’s fondness for her shot up instantly. Clearing her throat, she asked: “How many tasks have you completed so far?”
“With this one, four.” Qiao Sang admitted.
Only four? Fang Lan, softened by goodwill, comforted:
“You look even younger than me. Just qualifying to sign up is impressive. My first Regional Tournament, I scraped through nine tasks in a year, nearly killed myself, and still failed to qualify. The second time, I finished the tasks but got eliminated in the prelims after one match. This is my third attempt.”
Seven months already, and only four tasks… At that pace, Fang Lan thought, they likely wouldn’t meet in the tournament itself. Her gaze softened further, she saw her younger self in Qiao Sang.
What a tragic history… Qiao Sang pitied her for 0.1 seconds, then consoled: “This time you’ll definitely do better.”
“Thanks.” Fang Lan replied instinctively, then paused, something felt off.
Before she could continue, fireworks exploded across the sky.
Flying pets soared through dazzling lights.
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 654th Flying Tournament!” The host stood atop a white flying pet at the center of the venue, microphone in hand, voice brimming with passion.
Thunderous cheers erupted.
From B Zone, Qiao Sang looked on, feeling something different.
As a participant, the atmosphere was entirely unlike spectating.
“Gang Zhan…”
Gangbao stared blankly at the glowing trails left by flying pets above.
“Do you want to compete?” Qiao Sang asked, noticing her focus.
“Gang Zhan.” She replied softly, just never seen such a spectacle before.
“You’ll see it often in the future.” Qiao Sang said.
The path of a professional Beast Master was paved with battles and tournaments, each higher than the last.
“Gang Zhan.”
Gangbao's eyes gleamed with longing, but soon calmed.
“If we hadn’t taken this mission, we could’ve joined too.” Fang Lan sighed.
“I heard the prizes this year are amazing for flying-types. Especially the aerial race and relay, they’re giving out A-grade rewards.”
A-grade? Qiao Sang barely reacted. Little Treasure’s ring already held piles of A-grade supplies.
The competition began.
The first event: Aerial Obstacle Course.
A 50-kilometer race, with over 20 obstacles placed along the fixed flight route. Pets could use any skill to pass.
From the starting line, everything was broadcast live. The first pet to clear all obstacles and return would win.
Beast Masters rode their pets the entire way.
At the referee’s signal, most shot off like streaks of light, vanishing instantly.
A few lagged behind, their riders still clinging to oxygen masks.
From B Zone, Qiao Sang watched the giant virtual screen calmly. Then she thought of something: “Yabao, need a recovery potion?”
“Yap.”
He nodded.
“Xun Xun~”
Before Qiao Sang even asked, Little Treasure appeared, removed his ring, and swiftly pulled out a potion for Yabao.
Fang Lan and the Heron Eagle jolted in shock.
Ghost-types could hide their presence, but high-level pets could usually sense them. Yet her eagle hadn’t sensed a thing, meaning this little Ghost wasn’t weaker than it.
Thank heavens her efficiency was low. Otherwise, this year’s Regional Tournament would have another monster competitor… Fang Lan sighed inwardly, glancing between Little Treasure, Yabao, and Gangbao, then asked cautiously: “You’re not from our Central Hollow Region, are you?”
Qiao Sang nodded.
“I’m from Yuhua Region.”
“You already competed in your region’s tournament?”
“No.” Qiao Sang said honestly.
“This is my first Regional Tournament.”
Fang Lan froze.
“Why enter the Central Hollow Region’s tournament first?”
Qiao Sang paused, then said seriously: “Because I feel… I’m fated with this region.”
Fang Lan: ???
Suddenly, the intercom buzzed: “There’s a Sawtooth Dragon on the obstacle course! No Beast Master nearby. Who can move it away? The lead contestant will reach its area in about ten minutes.”
Sawtooth Dragon? Qiao Sang stayed quiet.
Not her problem.
But Fang Lan frowned.
“That’s a King-level dragon. With no Beast Master, who dares approach it? Best wait until it leaves.”
King-level… Qiao Sang’s pulse quickened. She pulled out her phone, searched Sawtooth Dragon.
The page loaded, images and info.
Huge ears. Saw-like ridges around its neck. Enormous purple wings, serrated at the edges. A spiraling horn on its head. Sharp lower fangs jutting from its jaw.
Saw-like… horn… The image overlapped perfectly with the hazy dragon from her dreams. Her heartbeat thundered.
“Anyone going?” The intercom asked again.
All Special Duty staff heard.
Another voice answered: “I’ll go!”
“You’re insane!” Fang Lan hissed when she realized it was Qiao Sang.
“That’s a King-level dragon! You don’t have to do this. The organizers will find another way.”
“I’m not insane.” Qiao Sang’s eyes blazed.
“My mission… is to maintain order.”
Fang Lan: …
Yep. Insane.
“Little Treasure, move us along the course!” Qiao Sang ordered, suppressing her excitement.
My fate! I’m coming!
“Xun Xun~”
Little Treasure’s eyes glowed blue.
In the next instant, Qiao Sang vanished.

T/n: Ah, yes, fate... While Qiao Sang's one is good, mine probably is doomed😭✊ I was designated to a nearby highschool but the students reputations there is quite concerning😭 I can only pray that I'll be assigned to a good class.
