After a brief wait...

I headed toward Jinor’s room and greeted him casually.

"What's going on, Swen? I heard you were looking for me."

"It’s nothing special. I was thinking of taking Reika outside the castle for a bit."

Reika was the first magician to appear in this world and the most powerful one who would remain active until the end. I didn’t know exactly why, but Jinor had been keeping her confined in the mansion, preventing her from going outside. Though she had sneaked out a few times, it seemed that the surveillance wasn't as strict as he might have hoped. Still, he had told me to avoid letting her leave the mansion as well.

Gaining favor with someone was simple. You just did what they wanted.

For Reika, what she wanted most was freedom. I figured that showing her some kindness wouldn’t hurt my position.

"...Can I ask why?"

"It's simple. Mana is much more potent in areas with rough terrain and less human impact. It helps to meditate in nature. While I’m not sure it would work for Reika, since she's a real magician, I know it worked for me. If the power I’ve been feeling is truly ‘mana,’ wouldn’t it benefit her too?"

Jinor paused for a moment, then murmured in a very soft voice, which I could hear clearly.

"...Swen, maybe you wouldn’t mind."
