Becoming The Bigshot's Only Love After Breaking Her Engagement
Chapter 140: Impossible to Reconcile
CHAPTER 140: CHAPTER 140: IMPOSSIBLE TO RECONCILE
As soon as Wu Wei opened the door, he saw Ningwan standing at the entrance with her luggage.
"Running away from home again?"
"I got kicked out."
"I knew this would happen sooner or later." Wu Wei pursed his lips and let her in.
Wu Taotao ran out of the room: "Ningning, you’re discharged from the hospital?"
"Wu Wei, I’m afraid I’ll have to stay here from now on."
Ningwan sat down on the sofa and closed her eyes.
Wu Wei went to the kitchen to make juice for the two of them.
Seeing how exhausted she looked, Wu Taotao was distressed and quickly reached out to hug her.
"Ningning, what exactly happened?"
She had never seen her like this before, as if in an instant her spirit had been drained, leaving only an empty shell.
Ningwan silently shed tears, two streams running down her face.
Wu Taotao was even more surprised, it had been so long since she’d seen her cry.
It was Ningwan who once told her that if tears can’t be used as a weapon, they’re just a sign of weakness.
Wu Wei came over and saw her. He raised an eyebrow in surprise and whispered to Wu Taotao, "You comfort her, I’ll step out."
Wu Taotao nodded.
After Wu Wei left, it was quite a while before Ningwan mumbled to Wu Taotao, "Taotao, Zhan Hanjue and I... got a divorce."
"Why?" Wu Taotao exclaimed.
Zhan Hanjue seemed to adore her, as if he couldn’t live without her, so how could he agree to a divorce?
"Is there some misunderstanding between you two? Tell me, and I’ll go explain to him," Wu Taotao said.
Ningwan gave a bitter smile: "There’s no misunderstanding, only... damage."
She had hurt Zhan Hanjue, even though it wasn’t what she intended.
But the fact couldn’t be changed, not only Old Mrs. Zhan couldn’t forgive her, but also she and Zhan Hanjue could never go back to the way they were before.
How could someone who indirectly caused her father’s death still coexist day by day?
What could she possibly give to Zhan Hanjue to make amends for the harm done to him?
Once, she desperately wanted to regain her memory.
The missing piece of it was like a flaw in the fabric of life, eager to smooth it out.
Only now did she realize that some flaws are actually a form of happiness.
"Ningning, what on earth happened?" Wu Taotao was extremely anxious.
She was just silently crying, saying nothing, which made Wu Taotao even more anxious.
But no matter how she asked, Ningwan wouldn’t say anything, insisting she stop asking.
Wu Taotao had Ningwan wash her face and go lie down to sleep.
Maybe after a nap, it would be a little better.
Wu Wei returned, but he came back injured.
Wu Taotao was startled again. She glanced into the room, made sure the door was closed, and then whispered, "Brother, what did you do? Got into a fight? I’m already worried to death, and you still went out to fight?"
"I went to find Zhan Hanjue." Wu Wei said with a cold face.
His face was injured, but it was just a scrape, not serious.
Wu Taotao frowned after listening: "What did he say?"
"He didn’t say anything."
"And then he hit you?"
Wu Wei’s expression was grim.
Actually, it wasn’t Zhan Hanjue who had someone hit him.
It was because he went to hit Zhan Hanjue, got stopped by Zhan Hanjue’s bodyguard.
As he pushed forward, he lost his balance and hit his face on a pillar nearby.
Wu Taotao saw he wasn’t speaking, thinking he was too ashamed to say it out loud, angrily said, "That Zhan Hanjue is too much, how can he hit people?"
"How is she?" Wu Wei asked.
Wu Taotao shook her head: "She cried for a long time but didn’t say anything. No matter how I asked, she wouldn’t tell me the reason."
"Zhan Hanjue wouldn’t say either. I asked him, and he didn’t say a word, just kept a straight face like he’d lost his father."
"Well, he did lose his father. Forget it, I’ll figure out a way to find out." Wu Taotao thought of Leng Ziqing.
He was, after all, Zhan Hanjue’s cousin, and although there were tensions between the two families, there were still social interactions on the surface.
Wu Taotao asked Wu Wei to look after Ningwan at home, and she went off to find Leng Ziqing.
The maid of the Leng Family announced her, and Leng Ziqing came running out of the house wearing a white T-shirt.
In the sunlight, he seemed warm, almost dazzling.
Wu Taotao was momentarily dazed until he got close, and then she quickly cleared her throat to state her purpose for visiting.
"I came to see you because of Ningwan. She and Zhan Hanjue divorced, did you know?"
Leng Ziqing nodded, expressionless, "I was there when they got divorced."
"You knew? Then why did they get divorced? Ningning came to me, said nothing, just cried. No matter how I asked, she wouldn’t say why. It’s killing me."
"You shouldn’t get involved in this. There’s no way to reconcile between them," Leng Ziqing advised her.
Wu Taotao said, "Even if they can’t reconcile, I want to know the reason."
Leng Ziqing was silent for a moment, then told her about the conflict between Zhan Hanjue and Ningwan.
"For Old Mrs. Zhan, her brother was her everything. His death was her pain. So, no matter what, she can never accept Ningwan again."
His mother couldn’t accept Ningwan either.
Although she was discontent with Old Mrs. Zhan, she was very close to her only brother.
The reason she held a grudge against Zhan Hanjue was because her brother died in the accident while Zhan Hanjue survived.
For years, she had never really liked Zhan Hanjue.
That’s why right after the accident, she retaliated against the Zhan family, leading outsiders to mistakenly think she was involved in the accident.
"I never thought there would be such a thing, no wonder Ningning just cried and wouldn’t say anything. Then what about Zhan Hanjue... is he willing to divorce? I thought he liked Ningning quite a lot." Wu Taotao said softly.
Leng Ziqing said, "He does like Ningwan a lot, but he can’t ignore his grandmother’s wishes. The Old Mrs. Zhan is old and can’t take any more turmoil. Besides feelings, he has a lot more he can’t give up."
"What can’t he give up? I think it’s just a lack of love. In TV dramas, people always abandon everything to be with the one they love despite everyone’s opposition, so why can’t he do it?" Wu Taotao said angrily.
Leng Ziqing chuckled: "Wu Taotao, you’re too romantic, do you think you’re living in a novel?"
"Then what about you? Senior Brother, if one day you fall in love with someone and your mother opposes it, will you continue or give up?" Wu Taotao asked.
"Give up," Leng Ziqing said, "My mother only has me. If I leave her, she’ll have nothing."
Wu Taotao’s heart sank. It was as if she was pricked by a needle, a faint pain.
Leng Ziqing’s answer made her extremely sad!
But what he said wasn’t without reason.
But what to do?
Even though she was heartbroken, Wu Taotao still liked him a lot, despite his answer making her sad.
"I understand now, thanks for telling me, Senior Brother."
Wu Taotao gave a bitter smile and turned to run away.
Leng Ziqing frowned, watching her silhouette get smaller and smaller.
His heart felt congested and uncomfortable.
Actually, he knew that those words would disappoint Wu Taotao, and he also knew why she had always been so lively around him.
But he still wanted to say them, to see how much she could endure, to find where her limits lay.
