Becoming The Bigshot's Only Love After Breaking Her Engagement
Chapter 266: She Really Was Wrong
CHAPTER 266: CHAPTER 266: SHE REALLY WAS WRONG
Ye Ningwan chatted with Tang Lu all the way, deliberately instructing the driver to take a detour, adding more than ten minutes to the journey before dropping Tang Lu at the destination.
"Ningwan, goodbye, let’s meet again when we have time."
Tang Lu, being a talkative person, did not forget to wave at Ye Ningwan after getting out of the car.
Ye Ningwan waved and nodded with a smile, only then did Mr. Zhan return from the front passenger seat.
"What do you think?" Ye Ningwan asked.
Zhan Hanjue said, "It’s too coincidental, like you’re hungry and suddenly a chicken leg appears. Do you think you’re lucky, or is someone deliberately feeding you?"
"Deliberately feeding, after all, I’m not someone who’s been particularly lucky from childhood to adulthood," Ye Ningwan said.
Zhan Hanjue held her hand, "That may not necessarily be true; perhaps after meeting me, your luck has improved."
"Yes, meeting you is my luckiest event. But I think I’ve used up a lot of luck, and I won’t encounter such lucky events again. However, since she said she’s Tang Xiaowan’s cousin and grew up in Philadelphia, investigating should reveal the truth."
"I’ll have Wu investigate, but whatever we find may not be entirely true. Fabricating a family is possible, so long there’s been preparation," Zhan Hanjue said.
Ye Ningwan nodded.
Besides investigating initially, there wasn’t a better option.
Indeed, Wu discovered all information about Tang Xiaowan with minimal effort.
Tang Xiaowan is indeed a native of Philadelphia, having grown up there.
Her parents divorced early, and she lived with her father. Although the Tang Family wasn’t considered prominent in Philadelphia, they initially had some wealth, only for Tang Xiaowan’s father’s generation to fall into a neither-rich-nor-poor state.
After re-marrying, Tang Xiaowan’s father did not have any children, only a stepbrother brought by the stepmother.
Last year, the stepmother passed away from illness, and the stepbrother moved to another city to develop his career, severing their contact.
However, Tang Xiaowan’s father had siblings. So, Tang Xiaowan had some cousins and a few distant relatives.
Initially, there was no contact.
But since marrying Wan Yufeng, there’s been much more contact.
It should be said, these relatives initiated contact with Tang Xiaowan.
Of course, the purpose of the contact was nothing but hoping for her assistance.
For instance, the purchasing manager position for Tang Lu was given by the other company to her due to her being Mrs. Wan’s cousin.
The aim was to establish collaboration with the Wan Group.
Tang Xiaowan felt indifferent towards these relatives; however, Wan Yufeng gave them favors for being relatives of Tang Xiaowan. So, these relatives didn’t mind Tang Xiaowan’s attitude towards them and were keen to get close to her.
"Here are some childhood photos of Mrs. Wan."
Wu took out a stack of photos for Ye Ningwan to see.
Ye Ningwan took them and looked along with Zhan Hanjue.
These photos were of Tang Xiaowan growing up, including some graduation photos; when she was little, she resembled Ye Ningwan more. Back then, she smiled brilliantly, youthful and sunlit, contrasting with her gentle and serene persona now as Mrs. Wan.
However, being youthful then and middle-aged now, differences were quite normal.
After viewing these photos, Ye Ningwan became confused.
Previously, she firmly believed that Mrs. Wan was her mother, Tang Xiaowan.
Though she didn’t admit it, her feelings pointed toward it.
But now, seeing these photos, she suddenly wondered if she had indeed been mistaken.
There were tangible traces of life from childhood, so how could she be that person she assumed?
"Maybe I’m wrong," Ye Ningwan said, "Even though these photos exist, how could it be her."
"Perhaps these photos are fake," Zhan Hanjue speculated.
Ye Ningwan shook her head, "Even if Wan Yufeng could fabricate her family, it’s not easy to fabricate schoolmates and friends from childhood. Randomly asking anyone from her class would reveal the authenticity of these graduation photos. He wouldn’t be foolish enough to do such a thing."
"Don’t be sad," Zhan Hanjue comforted her shoulder.
Ye Ningwan laid the photos down.
Zhan Hanjue signaled Wu to leave.
After Wu left, Ye Ningwan leaned on Zhan Hanjue’s shoulder and said, "I’m not very sad; actually... my feelings now are quite complex. If she were alive, I’d be happy naturally. But thinking she might be alive, married to someone else, having a family with them, makes me feel sad for my father. Do you understand that feeling? It’s wrong for me to think like this, but... I also ponder if it’s fortunate they might live or die together."
"I understand your feeling; since it’s certain she’s not her, let’s put this matter aside. We should focus on obtaining the Thousand-year-old Tai Sui, which is our priority now," Zhan Hanjue said.
Ye Ningwan nodded.
Zhan Hanjue was silent for a moment and then said, "But I think we can use Wan Tianyi’s suspicion to make him attempt to get the Thousand-year-old Tai Sui for us."
"But I feel he has ill intentions towards Mrs. Wan," Ye Ningwan said, "Even though it’s confirmed Mrs. Wan isn’t my mother, she looks so much like her and even shares the same name. I don’t want to harm her or use her."
"I understand, let’s initially pretend to agree with Wan Tianyi and ascertain his intentions," Zhan Hanjue proposed.
Ye Ningwan nodded.
Yet she questioned, "But why are there two people so similar, even with the same name? It’s too abnormal."
"Wu hasn’t heard any other news; if we want more information, afraid we have to start with Tang Lu," Zhan Hanjue suggested.
Ye Ningwan nodded, "Makes sense, she’s talkative, and... somewhat greedy."
Zhan Hanjue smirked, tracing his finger over her pale cheek, "Any problem solvable by money isn’t a problem."
"I’ll invite her to dinner tomorrow," Ye Ningwan immediately took out her phone.
Zhan Hanjue said, "First invite her shopping, just buying and buying, making it dazzling for her to agree to dinner and chat."
"So, Mr. Zhan intends to give me a gold card?" Ye Ningwan asked with a smile.
Zhan Hanjue drew close to her, intimately resting his forehead against hers, "I am yours, what’s a card."
Ye Ningwan smirked.
She proactively pouted and kissed his lips.
However, this brief touch couldn’t satisfy Zhan Hanjue.
The man held her slender waist, deepening the kiss.
Ye Ningwan called Tang Lu one hour later.
"Shopping? Sure, you haven’t properly explored Philadelphia yet! Perfect, I’ll show you all around," Tang Lu readily agreed.
"She agreed," Ye Ningwan hung up the phone, "This time, I’ll find out if she was deliberately arranged or if she’s genuinely just Mrs. Wan’s relative."
"Let’s split up; I’ll meet Wan Tianyi tomorrow, and you get information from Tang Lu. Also, bring Wangyue; stay safe," Zhan Hanjue advised.
Ye Ningwan nodded.
