CHAPTER 162: ASKING FOR DEATH

Alex asked his mother for the name of the hospital and said that he would be there shortly before ending the call. After hanging up, he glanced at Alicia beside him. The girl flinched when Alex stared in her direction, and she hurriedly looked away, not daring to make eye contact.

After staring at her for a while, Alex said.

"Stay here, and don’t do anything." He left the house right after saying that.

After Alex left, Alicia dropped to the ground, her face covered in sweat and she was panting heavily.

"That was scary." She muttered. The moment that Alex stared at her, it felt like she was being stared at by a grim reaper.

Almost everything about Alex scared her.

Meanwhile, Alex left the outskirts and hurried toward the location of the hospital where his family were.

Although his mother had tried to move away, Alex had heard some words from the background that didn’t sound quite right.

It was already night, and most areas in the outskirts were dark since there were no street lamps to light them up. Alex took out his mask and robe before continuing toward the hospital.

Alex used Void Walk after getting close to the hospital, and he was easily able to tell which ward his family was in with his senses and opened the second gateway there.

Alex then entered the white space and soon reached the place. He didn’t come out immediately and stood at the entrance of the gateway; he could see everything outside the white space, but no one could see him.

Seeing the situation inside the ward, Alex’s eyes flashed with killing intent.

As expected, something was wrong!

He could see his father sitting on the hospital bed, he wasn’t harmed at all but his expression wasn’t completely fine. Sitting next to him was Emily who was looking around with a fearful expression as she hugged Zoran’s arm.

Their mother stood in the middle of the ward, facing a group of four men in formal suits, each of whom had a cold look on their faces.

Some of the hospital workers stood outside and watched the scene inside the ward.

"We don’t care what the reason was, Zoran should have worked faster and avoided causing damage to the materials. He has to pay before leaving here!" One of the men in suits declared, his gaze was unforgiving.

Alex’s mother had a troubled look on her face.

"We’ll pay but not now, just give us some time. It’s a miracle that my husband didn’t get hurt and we only had enough for the medical fees. Please, just give us some time." She begged.

But the men didn’t want to listen, they blocked the entrance and stared at the family with vicious eyes.

It didn’t take long for Alex to understand what was going on. So these men were probably the owners of the site where his father was working when he was blown away by the wind, which had caused some of the building materials to get damaged in some ways, and now these people wanted him to pay?

How bold, they were clearly asking for death! They didn’t even care about his father’s life; he could have been hurt badly if not for the magic item that he was wearing.

"But keeping us here isn’t going to bring the money, please. Just let us go first and we’ll pay for the damaged materials." Alex’s mother kept on persuading.

One of the men seemed to have been annoyed by the pleading of Alex’s mother, he slowly released his aura as an Adept rank mage and stepped toward her with a menacing look on his face.

"You wretch, stop talking!" He barked before raising one of his hands, he wanted to slap his mother.

Alex’s eyes flashed with a sharp glint and he made a move.

Swoosh!

He moved extremely quickly from the white space and appeared in front of the man.

Pah!

Alex caught the man by the wrist before the other party’s hand could come down.

"A mage using his power to oppress ordinary people, you aren’t worthy of your powers," Alex said coldly as purple stars appeared around him and formed a star pattern.

"Sparks," he mumbled softly, and the next moment, lightning cracked around his fingers before rushing into the mage’s body and electrocuting him. The man’s body jerked violently in Alex’s grip but he didn’t stop there as he proceeded to fling the man to the corner like a piece of trash.

Bang!

The man crashed into the hospital wall and smashed through it, a series of more collisions were heard as the man crashed through more walls before finally coming to a stop outside the hospital.

His correct state looked awful, his body was covered in blood and dust, his suit had turned tattered, and a single glance would allow anyone to know that many of his bones were broken because his body had adopted a strange structure.

Back in the hospital ward, everyone stared at the masked figure who had suddenly appeared in front of them with wide eyes.

Their eyes weren’t deceiving them, it was Mr Chen!

The other three men in suits were shocked to see Mr Chen; their shock gradually changed to despair when they glanced at the broken wall that their companion had created when Mr Chen sent him flying.

The place was silent as no one made a sound. To them, Mr Chen had appeared out of nowhere when that man was about to slap this pleading woman, and then proceeded to shock the man with lightning before launching him out of the room in a very rough way.

Alex’s mother stared at Mr Chen’s tall back with a surprised face. For some reason, this person felt familiar to her and she felt safe just by standing behind him; his red hair looked the same as her son’s.

But she disregarded the thought right after thinking about it; her son was a young mage who had just started his life journey and this person was the renowned Mr Chen, they weren’t the same person.

"T-thank you for helping me, Mr Chen." She moved back a bit and thanked Alex while trying to bow her head in gratitude.

Alex was spooked and moved to stop her. He was like a phantom as he materialised in front of his mother and held her shoulder in place, not letting her complete what she was about to do.

’Phew, that was close.’ Alex exclaimed inwardly before saying to his mother who was staring at him with a confused face.

"You bow to no one," he let go of her shoulder after saying that and glanced in his father’s direction.

Alex was slightly surprised to see Zoran staring at him with a calm face, he didn’t seem to be affected that the person in front of him was Mr Chen.

"Thank you for helping my wife." His father spoke out after a moment of silence, and Alex nodded in response.

Something told him that he might be discovered by this man if he tried to converse with him.

"M-Mr Chen, what are you doing here?" a trembling voice sounded from the side, and everyone immediately turned to look at the owner.

It was one of the men in a suit.

He currently had a forced smile on his face and he was struggling to maintain the expression.

"Why? Am I not allowed to be here?"
