bChapter 332 /b

The moment the first gunshot shattered the silence, Joshua braced himself against the top of the wall and vaulted down.

Hended steadily right beside Xylia.

Xylia hurried over, worry written all over her face. “Are you alright? Did you get hurt?”

Joshua shook his head, his eyes reassuring. ‘No need to worry, I’m fine, he thought.

He kicked the woodendder away and grabbed Xylia’s hand, pulling her along as they dashed out.

There was no path on this side of the wall, so Joshua hadn’t brought the car around–didn’t want to tip anyone off.

Originally, the n was to take Xylia down a side trail to the road below, where a getaway car would be waiting for them.

Joshua and Xylia had barely taken a few steps down the trail when unfamiliar voices drifted up from below.

Joshua instantly recognized thenguage–it was Daltonian.

One of the men called out, “They really do have backup here! Boss said, even if they’re corpses, we drag them back!”

Joshua didn’t hesitate–he immediately pulled Xylia and dashed in the opposite direction.

The trail ahead was a mess–twisted, tangled, and hard to run on.

Xylia kept stumbling as the wild grass and vines snagged at her feet.

She gripped Joshua’s hand like a lifeline, eyes scanning every step as she rushed to keep up with him.

‘I can’t be a burden to Joshua. Not now. Xylia told herself, forcing her legs to move faster.

But out of nowhere, Xylia suddenly felt herself swept off her feet.

Joshua spun around, effortlessly scooping her onto his back without missing a beat, his stride relentless.

“Xylia, I’m taking you to the back mountain. You have to hold on tight, alright? We’ve got to make it down. before nightfall,” he said, his voice steady with urgency.

Xylia clung to his shoulders, her heart was in her throat as she listened to the seriousness in his voice.

“You’re going to wear yourself out like this. Put me down, really–I can keep up,” she said, worry clear in her

voice.

Joshua let out a soft, low chuckle. “It’s not about you keeping up. The path ahead is rough. I used to be in the army–I’m a lot more familiar with this terrain than you. Just hold on tight.”

Xylia had no choice but to wrap her arms tighter around his neck, holding on for dear life.

When they slipped out the back wall, the ce still looked like it got some regr upkeep–trimmed paths and touches of humanity left behind.

But after about ten minutes on the run, all that changed. They were surrounded by wild, tangled bgrass/b, and the air had turned thick and heavy with the raw smell of untamed nature–way more intense than before.

Xylia gripped Joshua even tighter, her nerves on edge. ‘Is it just me, or does this ce feel way more dangerous than thest?‘ she thought, the sense of threat growing stronger with every step.

Gunshots still rang out faintly behind them, unsettling even though barely audible.

They seemed to being from every direction–there was no telling how many enemies were out there.

Richard’s hatred for Joshua ran so deep, Xylia was certain he’d throw everything he had into making sure Joshua didn’t walk out of here alive.

She bit down on her lip, burying her face into Joshua’s shoulder.

Joshua moved like a shadow, his speed relentless.

He moved with the cunning of a lone wolf on hostile territory–never sticking to a straight path, sometimes darting back the way he’de just to create chaos for anyone tracking them. Each step was a calcted move, every misdirection another trap for their pursuers.

The stretch of forest ahead, locked away behind high fences, was somewhere Joshua had always steered clear of.

No one knew what sorts of danger lurked inside.

But whatever beasts might haunt that ce, the gun–toting men chasing after them felt just as deadly–maybe

even more so.

Joshua had left nothing to chance; he was sure of the preparations he’d made, and he knew they had a fighting chance.

Reaching the boundary wall, Joshua didn’t hesitate for a second. He whipped out his cutting tool, snapped clean through the iron bars, and without once looking back, ushered Xylia right into the wild unknown.

The bodyguards hunting Joshua and Xylia didn’t let up–they trailed the pair all the way to the edge of the fence, eyes sharp and full of menace.

Seeing the busted–up fence, they instantly figured the two must’ve gone through–no way they’d miss a clue like that.

“Man, that forest’s crawling with wild beasts and snakes…are we seriously supposed to go in there?” one of them muttered, doubt written all over his face.

“Are you nuts? Everyone who’s set foot in there before ended up dead. Going in is straight up suicide!” another snapped, the fear obvious in his voice.

“Why don’t we check with the boss? If those two really went in, odds are they’re noting back out. Even if we do follow, all we’ll find are scraps–beasts’ll take care of whatever’s left,” someone else grumbled under his breath.

Not a single one had the guts to step into that forest.

In the end, all they could do was turn to Holt for what to do next.

At that moment, Holt was stationed at the main gate, locked in a standoff with Graham Green–both of them with guns drawn, tense and ready to shoot at a moment’s notice.

When he heard themotion from inside the estate crackling over the radio, Holt instantly realized he’d been set up by Graham and Joshua.

Joshua had faked an approach at the front gate, luring Holt to bring a squad there in hopes of capturing him.

Turns out, it was nothing but a diversion–a ssic bait–and–switch to lure him away.

The whole scheme had been to rescue the woman trapped inside.

Just then, Holt’s earpiece crackled to life with the voice of one of his guys.

“The woman and a man just headed into the back mountain. Should we go after them?” the team member asked, tension clear in his voice.

Holt’s gaze shifted to the Maybach behind Graham. The driver was still hunched over his phone, his build nearly identical to Joshua’s.

But something about the whole scene just didn’t feel right to Holt.

“Is it really Joshua who went into the back mountain?” Holt murmured, voice low and suspicious.

Graham seriously hadn’t expected Joshua to head straight for the back mountain.

Everyone knows that ce is nothing but wild, uncharted forest–it’s a one–way ticket in there, nobody everes back out.

‘Has Joshua lost his mind? Is he really that desperate?‘ Graham thought, feeling his heart skip a beat.

‘Fine, save the girl if you want–but why go charging into that death trap?‘ he wondered, still stunned by Joshua’s choice.

Not wasting a second, Graham spun around, heading straight for his car to make his getaway.

Holt yelled after him, “Stop right there! That’s not Joshua in that car–and don’t you know what happens when you go up against my bossb?/b” fn1d69 Official source is FιndNovel/fn1d69

His gun was ready, finger on the trigger, the barrel pointed right at Graham’s heart.

Graham stood with his back facing Holt, not showing a hint of fear.

With an easy calm, Graham said, “I never imed Joshua was in the car. I just stopped by to pay my respects to Mr. Shaw. Since he’s not here, I’m on my way out.”

He shot Holt a cold nce. “But go ahead and try pulling that trigger if you want–just remember, there’s a whole squad of police waiting at the foot of the mountain who won’t be so forgiving.”

Graham definitely hadn’te here unprepared.

Holt seethed as he watched Graham jump into the car and speed away, fists clenched in helpless rage.

Snarling, Holt punched the call button and roared into the phone, “Get in there and hunt them down! I don’t care–bring them out dead or alive, just make sure we find them!”

Graham drove down the mountain road, keeping his eyes peeled as he went.

He hadn’t gone far when a group popped out by the roadside. Graham hit the brakes, leaned out, and called, “Why did they head into the back mountain?”

One guy stepped up, looking worried. “They got spotted. Mr. Shaw’s men blocked the back gate, so Mr. Garcia and his wife had no way out but to run in the other direction–and that just happened to be right into the back mountain.”

Graham’s face grew even darker, and he mmed his hand hard against the steering wheel in frustration.

Suddenly, the person in the passenger seat spoke up.

With a quick motion, the passenger reached up, pulled off his silver wig, and raised his eyes to meet. Graham’s.

He looked strikingly simr to Graham.

“Well, well,

my

dear brother–it’s pretty rare to see you this fired up. You must really see Mr. Garcia as a true friend,” the passenger remarked with a knowing grin.

Graham shot him a sharp re. “Save thementary. I’m going to save him!”

He reached for his seatbelt, ready to jump out, but the passenger grabbed his arm, stopping him.

“Chill out, don’t make things messier than they already are,” the passenger said, a hint of amusement in his voice. “From what I hear, Joshua used to be in the military. Roughing it in the wild is his kind of thing.”

He shot Graham a look. “Besides, he came prepared. When I saw him before heading up, he’d packed a whole bag of survival gear. The guy’s got a n. Instead of charging in, you should stake out the mountain’s base- be ready to catch him when he gets out.”

Graham shot him a doubtful look. “You actually saw him pack for this?”

The passenger nodded without hesitation. “Absolutely.”

Relieved, Graham quickly called out to his men, signaling them to head down the mountain.
