CHAPTER 100: CHAPTER 100 - UNDEAD TECHNIQUES AND HEADING TO THE ARENA!

Allen clapped his hands together.

"That’s enough for today," he said. "Go get some rest. You’ve earned it."

Logan smiled, thanking him before turning around and leaving.

’I have a lot to look into,’ he thought, walking through the door. ’Luckily there’s four days left until the duel.’

Heading back to his room, he felt the stares and murmurs from people all around him.

The duel had attracted far more attention than he’d ever expected.

’I never knew my elder siblings also had duels with the other Alvarez family children,’ Logan thought, smiling wryly. ’We only won once in all those duels though.’

Logan opened the door to his room and crashed on his bed.

Laying on his back, he opened the hologram on his watch.

Quickly sending messages to both Edric and Silas about his successful breakthrough, Logan switched to a different tab.

’I need to get some proper techniques for the undead element,’ he thought, looking up the auction house.

Basic manipulation of the element made the black fire and bone structure easy to summon, but when he tried recreating the bone creatures after the breakthrough, he failed miserably.

Very few results came up after he searched for undead-type techniques. Only one was at Platinum rank, and Diamond Core ones were basically extinct.

’Figured,’ Logan thought, shaking his head as he tapped on the techniques suitable for his level.

’’Bone wall, Lesser Reanimation, and Ghoulbind Chains,’’ he read, nodding. ’’Each pretty simple and straightforward.’’

Logan bought all three without any hesitation, paying another 70 million in total.

’Lesser Reanimation and the Ghoulbind Chains can grow to Gold Core,’ he thought, satisfied. ’While the Bone Wall is a very limited but useful technique.’

Closing the online auction house, Logan pulled the Flaming Body manual from his space ring with excitement.

He quickly flipped to the page he was most excited about.

’The Wings of Fire,’ he thought, a smile spreading on his face. ’If I had this inside the dungeon, nothing would’ve happened.’

Logan knew he likely couldn’t learn the full technique before the duel, but since he had already broken through and the fast food chains were being set up, it was better than doing nothing.

Reading through all the detailed notes about the first stage of the Wings of Fire technique, two hours flew by.

’So I’m supposed to channel fire through the spinal pathways and out through the shoulder blades,’ he read. ’The key to it is imagination, controlled breathing, and fearlessness.’

The manual specifically mentioned any doubts or fear about flight would cause collapses of the technique since fire mana is extremely aggressive and prideful.

’’That’s it then,’’ Logan said, jumping off his bed. ’’Let’s see if I can make a start on this technique!’’

Heading to the training rooms reserved for Silver Cores, a long day of trying and failing and trying again followed.

’’Imagine wings...’’ Logan muttered, his eyes closed.

He guided his mana through his body, forming two thin pillars of fire that spread from his back, slowly growing wider.

Before they could even reach the size of a football, Logan couldn’t keep his imagination clean, destabilizing them immediately.

’’Ugh,’’ Logan sighed, opening his eyes.

It had been four hours since he had started trying.

Guiding the mana itself wasn’t the problem anymore since his control had drastically improved.

Instead, every time the fire spread from his back, either his breathing hitched or the picture he had in his head changed slightly.

’I need a clearer picture of what I want to make,’ he thought, not exactly knowing how he could fix the problem. ’But the wings I imagine just don’t feel right either...’

Glancing at the time, Logan decided to head back.

’Tomorrow I’ll also start on some undead techniques,’ he thought, walking through the corridors.

His mind drifted to the rapidly approaching duel, a large grin spreading on his face.

’’I can’t wait,’’ he muttered, clenching his right fist with a wide grin.

’Derek should’ve also reached Silver Core by now,’ Logan thought. ’And I wonder what he’s been doing for him to have been absent for the past few days.’

Logan trained day after day, failing often but learning more each time.

’Today is the day,’ he thought, getting out of bed with a large grin on his face.

He’d made some progress on the Wings of Fire, finally able to hold their shape for over a minute.

But he felt like he was still lacking something, like something just wasn’t right.

On the undead side, he’d managed to learn the Bone Wall and the Ghoulbind Chains, only struggling with the Lesser Reanimation.

Getting dressed, Logan couldn’t help but get a nagging feeling.

’Derek can’t dodge the duel, right?’ he thought, worry flashing past his face.

No one had seen Derek in class, or on university grounds in general.

Rumors had quietly spread that he was planning to forfeit by not showing up. Logan couldn’t believe that though.

’He’s way too arrogant and prideful to not show up,’ he thought, shaking his head as his worry faded. ’If he doesn’t show, his reputation will completely collapse, and his family’s will follow right after.’

Glancing at the time, Logan saw there were still two hours left.

’’Grant and the others are waiting for me,’’ he mumbled, grabbing his new custom glaive and swinging it onto his back.

Logan stepped out of his room and was greeted by several familiar faces.

He raised an eyebrow as he saw even Livia awkwardly standing a few feet to the side with her arms crossed.

’’Are you ready?’’ Grant asked, a large smile on his face as he swung his arm around Logan’s neck.

Logan’s smile widened.

’’As ready as I can be.’’

His eyes fell on Livia, giving a small nod in her direction.

Grant narrowed his eyes, his head quickly turning from Livia to Logan.

Then, he patted Logan loudly on his back before taking a few steps back.

Logan stared at him in confusion by the suddenness.

Seeing Grant’s knowing smile as he walked to his girlfriend Layla, he couldn’t help but let out a chuckle as he shook his head.

Grant clapped his hands together, drawing everyone’s attention.

’’Enough loitering, everyone. Let’s head towards the arena.’’

’’We don’t want Logan to miss his duel now, do we?’’
