CHAPTER 95: CHAPTER 95 - PREPPING FOR BREAKTHROUGH AND TROUBLE

At the same time, somewhere else in the university.

’’That damn idiot brother,’’ Aylana Alvarez mumbled, glancing at the countless messages sent to her by her peers.

The news of the duel spread through the entire school like wildfire.

By the end of the day, nearly every student had heard about the duel between the Alvarez and Mercer families.

’’He was supposed to lay low for a while,’’ she mumbled, clenching her fist. ’’But it seems like the pathetic worm can’t even do that.’’

’’Seems like your brother is running a little wild,’’ a handsome boy beside her said, smiling politely.

Quickly masking her expression, Aylana turned to the boy.

’’Yeah, my silly little brother tends to do that,’’ she replied sweetly.

After Professor Li’s class ended, Logan was bombarded with questions about the dungeon trip and the duel by people he’d hardly ever spoken to.

He patiently answered every question except those related to the dungeon, slowly splitting the public favor between him and Derek.

’Everything has gone well so far,’ he thought, satisfied. ’Now all that’s left is the duel itself.’

’I’ll need to be more than ready in case Derek tries something shady during the duel.’

Excusing himself from the people around him and saying goodbye to his still shocked friends, Logan headed back to his room.

’’I have a lot to work on,’’ he mumbled, grinning.

As he walked through the corridors, he realized that the stares from the students outside his class had changed too.

They no longer looked at him with suspicion, but with anticipation.

By now, no one cared about what actually happened in the dungeon.

All they cared about was the duel.

’A bigger rumor always prevents smaller ones from spreading.’

Reaching his room, he opened his hologram projector and carefully planned his time for the next week and a half.

’The main things are my cultivation and the fast-food chain,’ he thought as he wrote it down. ’A week and a half isn’t enough to properly learn a new technique, so I’ll push that aside for now.’

’I’ll also have to start looking into fire-type cultivation resources for my breakthrough and I’ll have to start transferring money off the liquid holdings accounts for the system draw.’

Knowing there was a lot on the agenda, Logan pulled up the Meridian Guild’s auction house first.

Searching around for fire-type herbs, he quickly came across several herbs ranging from 10 to 30 million dollars each.

’’An S-rank Scorchthorn Root,’’ Logan read. ’’Aggressive, but it provides a large amount of high-quality mana.’’

Logan didn’t hesitate, bidding 28 million for it before continuing his search.

’Another Blazing Orchid?’ he thought, surprised. Without hesitation, he placed a bid.

’It worked great last time, so why not?’

Like that, he bid on three more S-rank fire herbs for his cultivation, spending up to a total of 104 million dollars.

Before he could close the auction house however, something caught Logan’s eye.

’What is this?’ he thought, opening the post for more information.

His eyes widened slightly as he read the description.

’’An S-rank Wind Drake’s egg?’’ he muttered out loud. ’’No wonder the price has reached 400 million.’’

He shook his head slightly as he read the description.

’Sure, it’s great for a summoner’s first beast,’’ he mumbled. ’’But taking care of something that aggressive? Not easy at all.’’

Looking back at it, he felt kind of glad that he didn’t get the summoning element as his first element.

’I wouldn’t mind it after the fast-food business works,’ he thought, tapping his fingers on the desk. ’But if I had to spend money on something like that now, I would be broke in a month.’

Shutting off the hologram projector, Logan stood up and walked to his bed.

Reaching into his space ring, he pulled out a fire mana stone.

’’I really don’t have a lot of these left,’’ he said, sitting down. ’’But I should have one or two I can use to help with the breakthrough.’’

Logan closed his eyes and started cultivating, wishing to finally break through to the Silver Core stage.

Like that, four days passed peacefully.

’’How did your breakthrough go?’’ Logan asked, walking through the corridors with Robert.

’’It went great!’’ Robert replied, practically beaming. ’’I awakened another S-rank affinity, and it’s a mutated wind type!’’

Logan raised an eyebrow, a big smile spreading across his face.

’’Seriously?!’’ he asked, swinging his freshly regenerated arm around Robert. ’"That’s incredible."

"Right!" Robert swung his arm through the air like he was slicing something. "It’s called Rending Wind. It’s all about sharpness and cutting, you know, the same wind Sky Rocs use."

"That suits you well," Logan said with a smile, giving him a solid pat on the back.

’’You don’t even want to know how excited my dad was when I broke the news to him,’’ Robert said, grinning from ear to ear. ’’It almost looked like he was going to cry!’’

Robert wasn’t the only one that had broken through so far.

Grant and many other people with S-rank affinities all broke through a day or two after the dungeon exercise.

"Both you and Grant ended up with mutated S-rank affinities," Logan said, still smiling. "What are the odds of that?"

"I know, right?’’ Robert laughed. ’’That lightning of his is absolutely no joke.’’

’’He almost blew me up testing it yesterday. If I didn’t have my shadow affinity, I’d be dead right now.’’

Logan chuckled. ’’That does sound like Grant.’’

Reaching their classroom, Logan felt the same excitement bubbling up in his chest.

’I’ll be breaking through tomorrow,’ he thought. ’I’m really curious what kind of affinity I’ll gain.’

As he ran through the possible affinities in his head, the classroom suddenly fell silent.

Looking behind him, Logan saw a white-cloaked individual with a white veil walking through the doors.

’Livia?’ Logan thought, glancing at her.

Livia’s head turned towards him, locking eyes.

’’We need to talk later,’’ her voice echoed through his head. ’’Meet me at the same library room where we made our plan for the dungeon after class.’’

Logan gave a small nod, raising an eyebrow.

’That didn’t sound like her usual self... something must be wrong.’ he thought, hearing her serious tone.
