CHAPTER 158: CHAPTER 153: GOUGE OUT YOUR EYEBALLS TO STEP ON (FIRST UPDATE)

Tong Airui was basking in her own happiness when Yi Luowa’s expression suddenly changed. She reached out, pinched his chin, and warned with a chilling look in her eyes: "If I ever catch you shooting me in the back again, I’ll dig out your eyeballs and turn them into squishy toys."

Tong Airui laughed as he removed her hand, "Don’t wrongly accuse me. How could I bear to stab you in the back? Go check on Huo Li."

Yi Luowa pursed her lips and strode out of the ward. At the moment she shut the door, she suddenly turned back to glare at Tong Airui.

Tong Airui flashed a smile and waved his hand apologetically, "Go on, I was looking at you just like this earlier."

Yi Luowa smirked and shut the door.

As soon as Yi Luowa left, Yuan Hang burst into the room. "Boss, something’s happened."

Tong Airui furrowed his brow slightly, "What is it?"

"Early this morning, news came from the police station. Bai Bowen and Xi Meichen were killed."

"Dead? Inside the detention center?" Tong Airui swung his legs off the bed. "Do they know who did it?"

"Dead. The killers were two men who were sent there last night for committing crimes. Right after killing them, those two men took their own lives out of guilt."

Tong Airui paused for a moment. "Dead is fine—saves me the trouble of doing it myself."

"Boss, what I’m worried about is whether they might suspect Mr. Yi or the Madam."

"They’ll surely conduct an investigation, but they won’t falsely accuse good people," Tong Airui said as he put on slippers and headed to the bathroom.

"Boss, the blue-eyed guy showed up yesterday and is now in Mr. Yi’s ward. Earlier, Miss Huo Li kept looking for the Madam because of this."

Tong Airui emerged with his toothbrush in hand, "Keep an eye on it. I’ll head over in a moment. That man is too cunning—don’t give him any openings."

Yuan Hang acknowledged the instruction and stepped out.

Tong Airui, brushing his teeth with a furrowed brow, mulled over the Xi Meichen incident. Before he could finish his thoughts or tidy himself up, the phone on his bedside rang.

Tong Airui quickly came out to answer it.

As soon as the call connected, Ning Mingxi’s anxious voice shouted, "Rui’er, Xi Meichen and Bai Bowen are dead! Did you know?"

"I just heard it from Yuan Hang."

"Come clean to Aunt. Was it you who did something?"

Tong Airui chuckled lightly, "Aunt, this is not my style."

"I thought so, too. It doesn’t seem like something you’d do. I just wanted peace of mind. If I can be sure it wasn’t you, I can wholeheartedly investigate this case."

Tong Airui laughed, "Aunt, you’ve already solved Xi Meichen’s case. Isn’t it about time you head back to the archives?"

"Rui’er! Are you trying to say it wasn’t you?"

"Aunt, you misunderstand me. I promise you this wasn’t me, nor was it Yi Luowa or her uncle. This case is very likely to turn into a dead-end mystery—I suggest you stay out of it."

"No can do. I’ve been following Xi Meichen’s case all along. Now that such a big incident has occurred, I must give an account to the higher-ups."

Tong Airui arched an eyebrow slightly, "Alright then. I’ll notify you as soon as I get any updates."

"Alright." Ning Mingxi hesitated for a moment before hanging up.

Tong Airui shook his head helplessly, changed his clothes, and quickly headed out the door.

Yi Weiyang was chatting with Juster when he walked in. Sensing his arrival, the conversation stopped. "Airui, I just heard something. I don’t know if it’s true."

"If it’s about Xi Meichen, it’s true. My aunt just called me."

"What happened to the old witch?" Yi Luowa turned her head to look at Tong Airui.

Tong Airui solemnly replied, "She and Bai Bowen were killed in prison."

Yi Luowa looked at him in disbelief. "Did I hear you wrong?"

"It’s true," Tong Airui said as he ruffled her hair. "Looks like we can rest easy now—won’t even need to go to court. But the police will come to collect evidence. You and your uncle might face some trouble."

"Are Uncle and I the prime suspects?" Yi Luowa let out a small laugh. "She really was something! Alive, she tried every possible way to kill us. Dead, she still won’t let us have peace."

"It’s just standard procedure. Until the mastermind is found, you and your uncle are the biggest suspects. I even received a call from the police—I’m under suspicion too."

Juster’s lips quivered slightly as he turned toward Yi Weiyang. "Mr. Yi, how’s your health?"

"Not too bad. I still have the strength to cooperate with the investigation." Yi Weiyang glanced apologetically at Tong Airui. "Airui, sorry to have pulled you into this mess."

Tong Airui shook his head with a smile. "No trouble. In this age of the rule of law, they won’t pin something on us that we didn’t do. Just... keep your emotions in check when dealing with this, especially since you’ve suffered a brain injury."

Yi Weiyang nodded slowly.

Yi Luowa pouted slightly and said, "Uncle, even though evil has been punished, it seems like evil still lingers to haunt us. We couldn’t avoid it even if we tried. Please, make sure you keep your emotions in check."

"Someone who’s come back from the gates of hell has the calmest mindset. Don’t worry, I’ll manage," Yi Weiyang replied with a dismissive laugh.
