CHAPTER 608: CHAPTER 521: WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT! (ONE MORE UPDATE)
Tong Airui didn’t dare go upstairs directly. His hand, trembling with excitement, stayed in his pants pocket—he was afraid his wife might notice something was off.
Hair. Someone urgently needed his wife’s hair!
The person who needed the hair was from Haotian! Because the account for the money transfer belonged to that Haotian hospital that traded in human organs.
What do they need hair for? DNA testing! The moment Tong Airui finished reading the letter, this was the thought that burst into his mind. He trusted his instincts!
Haotian Empress! Nancy! Luowa!
Everything started connecting...
Tong Airui anxiously pulled out his phone. "Old Eight, where are you guys?"
"Laiwang Island."
"All the way there? Why don’t you just fly to the heavens!"
"Haha... I’d love to fly, but sadly, I’m not an astronaut."
"When are you coming back?"
"Fourth Brother, let me tell you, Danton’s luck is insane—he wins every single gamble! We’re planning to win a yacht and ride that back."
Hearing this, Tong Airui felt his brain ache. With a sharp slap, he hung up the phone.
The closer he got to the truth, the less patient he became. He wondered whether he should head to Laiwang Island himself and yank a few strands of Danton’s hair, but then Jian Daimeng called him.
"Rui’er, I haven’t seen Danton in days. How’s he doing? I’ve tried calling him, but his phone’s off."
"He seems fine; right now, he’s gambling on Laiwang Island," Tong Airui’s eyes suddenly lit up. "Seventh Aunt, do you still have the blood sample you drew from Danton last time?"
"It’s been so many days; why would I still keep it? Why do you need his blood?"
"Urgent need. If it’s gone, it’s fine; I’ll go find him on Laiwang Island."
"Hold on. I still have a little bit left in the test tube, but it’s already clotted. Can you still use it?"
"I can! I’ll have Yuan Hang pick it up. Thank you, Seventh Aunt!"
"This kid, why are you thanking me!" Jian Daimeng muttered before hanging up the phone.
Tong Airui called Yuan Hang, but as soon as it started ringing, he heard Yuan Hang’s voice, "I’m right behind you."
Tong Airui turned around and gave him a glance, then smiled.
"I knew you’d need me; I’ve been on standby. What do you need me to do?" Yuan Hang walked up and set his phone down.
"Go to my Seventh Aunt’s to pick up a blood sample in a test tube. Then go home and grab the pink toothbrush in my bathroom and take both to Old Seven. Tell him to immediately run DNA tests on both samples. Nobody besides us can know about this!"
Yuan Hang immediately smirked. "Got it. Especially not Kou’er, right? Boss, is this time a solid lead?"
Tong Airui rolled his eyes at him. "What makes you think so?"
"You’ve done DNA tests so many times, but this is the most excited I’ve ever seen you."
Tong Airui coughed lightly, regaining his composure instantly. "In the past, we gave Luowa hope only to shatter it. This time, we’re handling it secretly. We’ll only talk once we have results."
"Alright! I’m off." Yuan Hang opened the car door and got in.
Tong Airui ran after him. "The pink toothbrush—don’t mess it up. Grab me a change of clothes too. If my mom asks, you’ll need an excuse."
Yuan Hang nodded firmly. "Don’t worry; I’ll complete the mission!"
Watching Yuan Hang’s car drive off, Tong Airui turned back to the office building. He had already prepared answers for Yi Luowa’s inevitable questions, but upon opening his office door, he found she was already gone.
He let out a long sigh of relief, walked to his desk, sat down, and took out the letter again. The account was indeed from that hospital. Right after the payment, the hospital had been shut down. It seemed this plot was very well orchestrated.
If the hospital could be shut down, then the other clues left by Ke Jingde likely held no value either. The only thing left to investigate now was the hospital itself!
To investigate the hospital, he didn’t want to involve Su Ting anymore. At this point, he trusted no one. He could only wait for the DNA results and report this matter to Emperor Haotian and Empress Haotian, so they could personally investigate who was behind the plot.
Nancy and Xia Rou—it was hard to believe these two could orchestrate such a massive scheme. So who was the mastermind? Du Ma was dead, and so was Kai Di. Could it be Kai Di’s doing before her death?
Tong Airui shook his head at the thought. Kai Di wasn’t that stupid. If she helped Emperor Haotian find his daughter, her own son’s succession rank would definitely be below Nancy’s.
And yet, the clue pointing the way to Empress Haotian had come from Kai Di. This seemed to direct suspicion back at her.
Rubbing his temples, Tong Airui picked up a document and forced himself to read. It was too early to think about all this—what if, once again, it turned out to be nothing? Better to focus on actual work.
But Tong Airui’s efficiency was dismal today—he didn’t even complete one single document by noon.
While he was struggling, Yi Luowa’s side was bustling. She had initially waited for Tong Airui in his office, but then she got roped into doing chores by Second Uncle. Not just her—Kou’er was also dragged along.
The two of them worked frantically and managed to finish Sheng Duheng’s monthly reports before lunch.
Holding the reports in his hand, Sheng Duheng chuckled. "A rough-around-the-edges guy like me handling logistics? I’m hopeless at it. You two really saved my butt this time."
Kou’er pouted. "Second Uncle, you’re always bullying me and Sister Luowa. You have so many subordinates—why don’t you use them?"
"They’re busy too. For this particular report, I needed to handle it personally. Alright, stop fussing. Lunch is on me today—just the two of you."
Yi Luowa smiled sweetly and asked, "Second Uncle, just the two of us? That’s not enough to get your money’s worth. Can we bring plus-ones?"
Sheng Duheng laughed. "Bring them! Of course you can. Call Rui’er and Yuan Hang."
Yi Luowa and Kou’er left the office laughing. They looked for Yuan Hang first, but he wasn’t around. Thankfully, Tong Airui was still in. Hearing his wife had scored lunch from Second Uncle, Tong Airui happily joined her for the meal.
"Fourth Master, where’s Brother Yuan Hang?" Kou’er asked when they got to the restaurant.
"I sent him out to handle something. He’ll be back by tonight," Tong Airui replied in a low voice.
Kou’er smiled. It was fine as long as he’d be back tonight—otherwise, sleeping alone in a big room always gave her the creeps.
After lunch, Yi Luowa went to Tong Airui’s room. Worried she’d notice something, he pretended to be very busy. His behavior left Yi Luowa feeling a little upset.
"You and Second Uncle are both so busy. I don’t feel right just sitting around here; give me something to work on—I’ll take it back with me."
Tong Airui picked a folder from his files and handed it to her. "Take your time; don’t tire yourself out. Just have it back to me before the day ends."
Yi Luowa gave him a suspicious look. He was acting a little strange today—he didn’t even attempt to keep her from leaving.
Noticing her hesitation, Tong Airui glanced up at her and said, "It’s the last work day before New Year’s. Everyone’s super busy, so I won’t hold you up."
Yi Luowa burst into laughter. "Who said you were holding me up? I’m leaving now."
Tong Airui nodded with a smile. "Off you go."
By the end of the workday, the DNA results should be ready. The thought excited Tong Airui. Still, as he calmed down, a worry surfaced—what if his wife really turned out to be Emperor Haotian’s daughter? What then?
He jabbed his pen repeatedly against the desk, then suddenly smiled. So what if she was his daughter? They’d carry on with their own lives. After all, his wife had already borne him a child. Could they really try to take his wife away?
Having made up his mind, Tong Airui began processing documents rapidly.
By 4:30, he couldn’t wait any longer and called Yuan Hang.
"Yuan Hang, will the results be ready by 5:00?"
"No. There was a traffic jam, and I got delayed. They should be ready by 5:10... The power’s out! What’s going on!?"
Over the phone, loud voices sounded. "Start the backup generator! Check the power room immediately to see what’s wrong."
"It’s not just us—it’s the entire district that lost power."
"Director Mai, the operating rooms don’t have power; surgeries can’t proceed."
"Director Mai, the ICU rooms don’t have working ventilators..."
"Activate the backup power!"
The other end of the line was in chaos, and Tong Airui grew increasingly anxious as he listened. "Yuan Hang! Yuan Hang?"
"I’m heading to the power room..."
"Don’t! Stay outside the lab and don’t let anyone in!"
Yuan Hang quickly stopped, turned back to the lab, and saw a lab technician peeking out. He immediately pushed the technician back inside. "The power will come back soon—stay inside and keep watch!"
The technician glanced at the epaulets on Yuan Hang’s uniform and obediently retreated.
"The lab hasn’t had any issues, has it?" Tong Airui asked anxiously. He was at a loss for words. How could finding a mother for his wife be so difficult?
