CHAPTER 555: CHAPTER 265: SURPRISINGLY MAKING THINGS DIFFICULT FOR HER BEHIND HER BACK (2 MORE)
Jane Quinlan let out a downcast sigh after hanging up the phone.
What rotten luck, she thought it was Nolan Moore calling.
Had she known, she wouldn’t have done that.
Listening to Director Annie’s voice and attitude, she figured she was in for some bad luck.
She got up with the files in hand and walked to Nolan Moore’s office door to knock.
"Come in."
Jane pushed the door open and stood aside: "Director Moore, do you have any urgent matters right now?"
"No, why?"
She gestured towards the upstairs: "Director Annie from the assistant’s office asked me to go up there now.
If there’s nothing urgent, I’ll head up first."
"Go ahead."
Jane closed the door listlessly and went upstairs.
As soon as she walked into the assistant’s office, everyone was busy with their own tasks.
Not a single person lifted their head to look at her.
But that was fine, after all, she didn’t recognize anyone there.
She knocked on Director Annie’s office door, and after entering, she respectfully stepped forward and bowed.
"Director Annie, you were looking for me."
Annie didn’t even lift her head or glance at her, but asked while looking at the documents in her hand, "Assistant’s office rules and regulations, Article 9."
Jane was suddenly baffled by the question.
She had memorized it the day before, but just after last night, why was her mind blank all of a sudden?
After thinking hard, she seemed to recall something.
However, the type of memorization she preferred was the obsessive-compulsive kind.
She liked to recite everything in order from the beginning.
With Director Annie suddenly asking about a random article, she really didn’t know.
And there were over a hundred such rules and regulations.
Who knows what kind of maniac could come up with so much content.
"What are you staring at? Playing dumb?
Didn’t I tell you on your first day to memorize the assistant office’s rules and regulations thoroughly?
Three days was the time given. What day is it now?
Jane Quinlan, do you think you’re so incredible because you parachuted in here with a backer?"
Jane lowered her head, feeling a bit stifled by the scolding.
"Director Annie, I did memorize it, it’s just... when you suddenly ask for a specific one, I can’t quite recall it.
I need to remember from the first one."
"If I were to quiz you on Article 99, would you need to stand here for an hour trying to remember?
What, are you saying you can’t remember something that everyone else can?
Do you have the brain of a pig?
I’ll have you know, my assistant office doesn’t harbor useless people."
Jane clenched her teeth; she was always a competitive person.
During her school days, her grades were always excellent.
Being scolded for not memorizing something was truly a first in her life.
Manager Annie’s voice grew louder by the minute; it was apparent that she was very angry that Jane couldn’t recite the rules and regulations.
"I’ll tell you, Jane Quinlan, you may have entered through the backdoor.
But if you lack even the most basic capabilities, then you might as well resign early of your own accord.
Don’t wait around for me to kick you out and lose even more face.
If you can’t memorize the rules, you could have come to ask me for more time.
But an improper work attitude, that’s a problem with your character."
Jane clenched her teeth, "Director Annie, I am not improper."
"You’re back-talking?
Tell me, have you ever lost your temper in front of Director Moore?
Have you ever scolded Director Moore?
If you say you haven’t today, let’s confront Director Moore together.
If he also says there was nothing, I, Annie, will apologize to you immediately."
Jane clenched her fists. It was Nolan, that bastard who was setting her up behind her back.
Such a bastard, an animal.
If there’s something to say, say it to my face; why stab me in the back?
Annie slammed the table, stood up, and pointed at her: "Look at your attitude now.
When I’m talking to you, you dare to lie with your eyes wide open and back-talk.
How can I believe you’d be respectful in front of Director Moore?"
Jane bit her lip fiercely, holding back.
"What, by the looks of it, you feel wronged?
You think it’s very unpleasant to be scolded, right?
I’ll tell you, not just because you’re a parachuted hire.
Bring in any employee from the outside.
See who dares to talk back when I scold them.
What, are you special?"
Jane truly felt aggrieved inside.
She was constantly reminded that she had entered through the back door.
What’s wrong with entering through the backdoor? Did she eat their rice, drink their water, use their WiFi?
"Manager Annie, I’ll take heed next time."
Annie sat back down with arms crossed: "I’ll give you two more days.
In two days, come back up here, I’ll test you on the rules and regulations.
If you still can’t answer, pack up and leave immediately."
Jane clenched her lips; two days then. Fine, just two days.
If it comes down to it, she’ll give it her all.
Jane looked down and remained silent.
